My name is Deisy Orantes, I come from a middle class income, but with all the living expensenses money is short. Both of my parents are from Mexico, migrating here at a young age starting from zero. My dad was not able to get the opportunity to get into highschool. The grade he stopped at was sixth grade due to him migrating here. My mom was able to go to highschool but stopped at 10th grade due to getting pregnant. I am the first generation to finish high school and get into college. My parents always wanted the best for me telling me to keep working hard to get those good grades, scholarships, and get into College. We lived in an area with high violence and drug use. In the Phoenix area, everywhere you turn you see homeless and sick people around the streets. Not long ago, there was this homeless young man named John that lived in the back of our house about 19-20 years old. We would offer him food and water on days that he passes by. One day he came to the front of our house and asked for medical assistant because he wasn't feeling well. He was dehydrated, on drugs, and got lean because of it. Paramedics came to help him out, seeing this made me want to work in the medical field to reduce sickness. Also, when my brother was born he had to be hospitalized because of a virus called RSV within a month of him being born. He was in ICU for a week and because of that virus, he developed asthma and has had numerous health complications. The doctors and nurses did everything they could and with the help he got better. Growing up we noticed he had a weak immune system, getting sick and having this disease called chronic hives. Hives is a skin reaction that causes swelling in the body, skin irritation, rashes, and breathing problems. Seeing my brother struggle with his health made me want to get into the medical field and major in nursing. I am the best candidate for this scholarship because of my academic grades, helping abilities, and my desire to learn. So far I have been active by being a part of medical clubs or programs. My major is nursing, because of the way my brother grew up it has led me to want to pursue nursing. I am a person who is a natural born leader, has communication skills, able to problem solve, and has a lot of patience. During my high school years I was very active in medical programs. This scholarship will help me achieve my goal of helping my community in health. When I get this scholarship I will be living with my parents to save money, get into a university and study for my bachelors degree in nursing. Graduate and work in a hospital with kids, while I'm doing this I would like to also work for sonography. In today's society the medical field is crucial because of the pandemic and other illnesses that is going on. Having the scholarship will be a tremendous accomplishment for my family and I because that is helping us with the school expenses and showing that I can give a helping hand to those in need. I would mostly help kids with this scholarship, I am the first generation in my family to finish high school and attend college. Thank you for this opportunity in helping me achieve my goals in life. Have a wonderful day thank you again.
