DeeAndrea Carter is a graduate student pursuing a dual Master's of Education, Education Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida. She was inspired to purse the double major in order to understand the human mind, its functions, and motivations in individual and collective settings. DeeAndrea hopes to spend her life tackling issues faced by the community by working as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and entrepreneur. Ultimately, she aims to own and operate a community development corporation to offer a host of services, including but not limited to community-based therapy, college and career readiness training, and economic development. Outside of academia, DeeAndrea passions include youth development, community empowerment, and social justice.

  Mission:

  ChngeMaker Magazine is an initiative created to allow youth a safe place to express their feelings and opinions. I serve as the lead writer and editor for the poetry and spoken word portion of the magazine. Writers and contributors to the publication have a chance to use their voice and promote positivity, as well as shed a light on topics that impact youths and our society. Our goal is to empower youths and to let them know they are important. In addition, we serve as a safe outlet that supports emotional growth through writing.

  Mission:

  S.P.E.A.R United is a global initiative ran by youths that are dedicated to increasing civic engagement. I serve as the Task Manager. The position requires that I am actively engaged in all the projects S.P.E.A.R conducts. I sit on the committee that develops our outreach projects and I monitor the progress of upcoming events by working with venues, soliciting sponsors, and ensuring proper lighting, sound, and media equipment. At the events, I do whatever is needed to make sure the functions run well and I take note of feedback from participants and audiences. I have been involved in numerous successful events including moderating the mental health panel for the "State of the Black Youth" Panel Discussion (February 2020), participating in the Live Town Hall Discussion: Violence, Police, and Race (October 2020), and helping to organize a "Rock The Vote" drive-in Concert (October 2020). I am particularly proud of our voting campaign. We were able to help people register to vote, understand how to obtain and return mail-in ballots, and promote early voting. We had bipartisan participation from attendees and candidates for local and state offices.
