Bold Wise Words Scholarship
Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. These are the words I absorbed as a child and have been sharing with my students ever since. Growing up in a small town with very few theatre opportunities and a hunger to perform, I created opportunities in any way I could think of. Living room dance recitals featuring all the kids in the neighborhood, music videos and home movies produced with my siblings, scripts written and performed in classes.
After graduating from the University of Sioux Falls with degrees in Communication Studies and Theatre and English, I continued my education at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City and worked for several regional theatre companies. But still, I kept these wise words close to me.
When I returned to Sioux Falls to help care for my mom, I could feel the opportunities that were missing. I founded Monstrous Little Theatre LLC, which seeks to produce professional contemporary drama and later founded Improv Falls LLC, which seeks to create joy through story-telling. I am also proud to work full time helping to train the next generation of young performers through the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts at the Washington Pavilion as the Program Coordinator.
By pursuing an MBA at the University of South Dakota, I aim to elevate professional and educational theatre opportunities in Sioux Falls by enhancing my business knowledge and leadership skills. I strive to continue to do what I can, with what I have, where I am. I have planted myself here - now it's time to grow.
