Dayanara Espinoza

Bio

My name is Dayanara Espinoza, and I am 17 years old. I am the oldest daughter of four, so I spend a lot of my time caring for my younger siblings. I love being a role model for them and showing them that anything is possible as long as you are determined and have a positive growth mindset. I want to continue being successful and getting my education to show them that it is essential. I am currently a senior in high school and dual-enrolled at a vocational college, South Dade Technical College. In their nursing program, I am provided classes and resources in order to earn my LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) certification by the end of my senior year. Although it has its hardships and challenges, it is an excellent opportunity for me. I currently have a 94% in the course, along with being number one in the entire class of 2023, and I will continue to strive and do my best. My ultimate goal is to continue progressing towards a great career and be ultimately happy with my life. I want to reach this goal by providing care for others. I plan on earning my bachelor's degree and becoming a nurse. I am deserving of scholarships because I am determined to get through all four years of college and will use them to help me. I am hardworking and believe that I will meet my goals.

One personal finance lesson that I find important is having a budget. It's essential to have a budget when it comes to things you want. This is to help with making purchases you need more manageable and to be able to put extra money into your savings. Specifically, the best possible way to budget is to use the 50/30/20 rule. I learned that this means to put 50% of your after-tax income towards critical things like food, insurance, transportation, and essential utilities. Then, put 30% of the money away for items you may desire, whether it is trendy clothes, fast food, or Tv subscriptions. Finally, put the remaining 20% in your savings for emergencies or unexpected situations. It is good to stay true to your plan so that, ultimately, you can be stress-free and financially stable. What I mean by this is to take responsibility, set proper rules for yourself, and use money in categories for the right reasons. An example of this would be to use your needs money for groceries and bills, not fast food and Netflix. Budgeting is just one lesson I learned from my previous personal finance class that has stuck with me and that I find very important and valuable to my day-to-day life.
