Bio

I am striving for a survey and civil engineering major at Fairmont State University with a strong interest in sustainable infrastructure and precise land development. My academic journey has equipped me with skills in structural analysis, project planning, and innovative construction techniques. I am currently working on a light construction design project, which has strengthened my understanding of practical engineering applications. In addition, I have developed a passion for land surveying, as it plays a critical role in accurate site planning and project execution. I enjoy learning about modern surveying technologies and their impact on efficient construction and environmental stewardship. My ultimate goal is to become a licensed civil and survey engineer specializing in projects that combine functionality, sustainability, and precision.

Choosing a career path is never easy, but for me, the decision to pursue land surveying and civil engineering came from a mix of curiosity, opportunity, and passion for building the world around us. Initially, I was drawn to land surveying because of its unique blend of technical precision and outdoor work. Surveying is the foundation of every construction project, it ensures accuracy in measurements, boundaries, and layouts. I liked the idea that surveyors play a critical role in shaping communities, from roads and bridges to residential developments. The thought of working with advanced technology like GPS systems and drones, while also applying mathematical and problem-solving skills, made land surveying an exciting and practical choice for me. As I began studying surveying, I realized how interconnected it is with civil engineering. Surveying provides the data that engineers use to design and build infrastructure. During a conversation with one of my professors, they mentioned that I could pursue both majors. At first, the idea seemed overwhelming, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Civil engineering is about creating solutions that improve everyday life, designing safe roads, strong bridges, and sustainable water systems. It complements surveying perfectly because both fields require precision, planning, and a deep understanding of the land. Taking on two majors was a challenge, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. Civil engineering opened my eyes to the bigger picture of construction and design. While surveying focuses on measurements and boundaries, engineering dives into structural integrity, materials, and environmental impact. Together, they give me a complete perspective on how projects come to life, from the initial site analysis to the final structure standing tall. I enjoy the balance between fieldwork and design, and I appreciate how these disciplines allow me to combine technical skills with creativity. Now, I can confidently say that I enjoy both fields. Surveying gives me the satisfaction of working outdoors and applying precise calculations, while civil engineering challenges me to think critically and innovate. These majors have taught me the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability, skills that will serve me well throughout my career. More importantly, they allow me to contribute to projects that make a real difference in people’s lives. Whether it’s mapping land for a new highway or designing a bridge that connects communities, I know that my work will have a lasting impact. In the end, choosing land surveying and civil engineering wasn’t just about finding a job, it was about finding a passion. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead and proud to be building a future where accuracy and innovation go hand in hand.
