Bio

I am currently a student attending the Peabody Institute of the John's Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland for clarinet performance. For the past four years I have been truly engaging myself in my craft, and learning more about the intricacies of music. I currently study under world class performer Alexander Fiterstein. I'm originally from the small town of Walhalla South Carolina and went to school in Greenville South Carolina. I went to a well renown school for arts, The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. There I studied under Dr. Zhang and really started to feel the love and passion I have for learning and playing music. When I'm at home I work on chicken farms and help my parents with their street ministry, and I also dedicate time to go to church every Sunday.

I joined band class in middle school and discovered my passion for creating music. I didn't take it seriously until I joined high school and really tried to be better at my craft. I decided that my school wasn't challenging me academically and musically, so I left my old school to go to the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. There, where I was under the instruction of Dr. Kyra Zhang, I honed my ability to play the clarinet and create music. While attending this school, I was gifted with many opportunities to listen to the local orchestra, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, was able to be a part of the Carolina Youth Symphony playing clarinet and bass clarinet, be taught by renowned musicians and teachers, and have many opportunities to perform myself whether it be solo or chamber repertoire. During my senior year at the Governor's School, I auditioned for six separate schools and got accepted into five of them. I auditioned for Furman University, The University of South Carolina, Converse College, The Boston Conservatory, The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and The Eastman School of Music. I was accepted into all of the listed schools except for the Eastman School of Music. I currently attend The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where I am under the direction of the world-renowned clarinetist Alexander Fitterstein. Here at the Peabody Institute, located In Baltimore Maryland, I learn about music theory, history, how to play the keyboard, how to be an entrepreneur in the musical world, go through ear training to be able to dictate music, and I get to play in various ensembles. While I've been here, I've been able to play very large pieces of work such as Days Concerto for Wind Ensemble, Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony, and clarinet repertoire such as Bohuslav Martinů's sonatina for clarinet, Norbert Burgmullers Duo for Clarinet and Piano and Camille Saint-Saëns Sonata for clarinet. I've also played in small chamber groups and in a group quartet where we played a piece written by a student that is enrolled in the composition department at the school. I'm still debating on what I want to do after I finish my college career. I do plan on getting a master's degree in clarinet performance. I don't exactly know where I want to go, but I am looking at somewhere near my home, or somewhere in Europe. My options that I would consider doing after I complete school would be to try and join an orchestra somewhere in America, or enlist in the military and audition for a military band. While I don't know exactly what I'm going to do or where I'm going to go those are my main options for work after school.
