I am passionate about supporting mission-driven teams. My background is rooted in service—advocating for veterans, raising awareness about suicide prevention, training in wellness, and spending 15 years educating children. These experiences highlight how public policies shape lives. I've witnessed support gaps and challenges that many face, including myself, and I refuse to accept harmful policies from the current administration. I am committed to correcting these injustices, particularly regarding women's rights, suicide prevention, public education, and economic policies. Our communities deserve leadership that prioritizes their needs over political gain. Politics should prioritize service and accountability and ensure that the government works for everyone, not just the wealthy. This dedication has defined my professional journey, including working with organizations that create a positive social impact.

Fishers of Men-tal Health Scholarship
Mental health has been my greatest challenge and my most powerful teacher. Living with MDD and GAD has forced me to confront vulnerability, resilience, and self-discovery. These experiences have shaped my core beliefs about compassion, perseverance, and human connection. They have also transformed the way I relate to others and inspired me to dedicate my career to advocacy and support for those navigating similar struggles.
My journey with mental health started as a quiet, internal struggle, one I initially believed I had to face alone. I wore a mask of strength, trying to meet the world's expectations while silently feeling like I was drowning. I thought that mental illness was a personal failure, something I had to hide to be accepted. However, experiencing the unpredictable cycles of depression and anxiety revealed a truth that changed my life: strength is not defined by the absence of pain but is rather the courage to confront it and keep moving forward. This realization formed the basis of my conviction that vulnerability is not weakness but a source of power. Today, I see openness and honesty about mental health as acts of bravery that can break down stigma and encourage others to seek help.
This mindset has had a profound effect on my relationships. There was a time when I isolated myself, convinced that I needed to handle my burdens alone. My fear of judgment created walls between me and the people who cared about me. Over time, I learned that real connection comes from being authentic. By sharing my struggles, I discovered not only stronger support but also the ability to help others who are silently suffering. This experience has increased my empathy. I have become attuned to the subtle signs when someone else is overwhelmed, enabling me to offer understanding without judgment.
This growing empathy has also profoundly impacted my role as a parent. My son struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, and my journey has equipped me with the tools to be his advocate. Rather than trying to "fix" his mental health, I walk alongside him, demonstrating that it is okay to ask for help and that struggling does not diminish his worthiness of love or success. We engage in open conversations about mental health, and I aim to instill in him the belief that his life is valuable, even during the darkest days. Parenting a child with similar challenges has made me more resilient. When I encourage him to keep fighting, I am also reminded to prioritize my well-being.
Professionally, my mental health challenges have guided my career aspirations. For the past 15 years, I have worked in education, championing the success of young people. I witnessed firsthand how mental health issues often go unnoticed in schools, with many students suffering in silence. My experiences have instilled in me a deep dedication to being a voice for those who feel unseen or unheard. This passion also drives my work with veterans who frequently face stigma surrounding mental health. I founded Veteran Support Consultants, LLC, to assist veterans and their families in navigating the complex VA benefits system—a process that can be incredibly overwhelming, especially for those already grappling with the psychological wounds of service. My goal is to ensure that no veteran feels abandoned or powerless in their quest for care.
My experience has also influenced my commitment to suicide prevention and resilience training. I have taken on roles where I can educate peers and professionals to recognize the signs of mental distress and respond with compassion and actionable support. I know from personal experience that the proper support at the right time can save a life. This is why I feel so strongly about developing programs that prioritize wellness, education, and community collaboration. In many ways, my mental health journey has transformed my pain into purpose—providing me with a career that is not only fulfilling but also deeply meaningful.
Perhaps the most profound influence my mental health journey has had on my understanding of success. In the past, I equated success with external achievements, such as job titles or financial milestones. Now, I see success as the ability to positively impact others, creating safe spaces where people feel seen and valued. Whether it is helping a veteran receive their benefits, guiding a family through a crisis, or simply listening to someone who feels alone, I experience a sense of achievement that no award could ever replicate. My struggles have taught me that success is not about avoiding failure but about using every challenge as fuel to empower others.
I have come to understand the importance of community and connection in the healing process. Engaging with support groups has shown me that we are not alone in our struggles; many are similarly fighting their own battles. Sharing my story has not only helped me but has also inspired others to speak out. By creating spaces for dialogue, we can begin dismantling the stigma associated with mental illness. Each conversation strengthens the network of support we can provide one another.
Additionally, my perspective on self-care has undergone significant changes over the years. Initially, I viewed self-care as a luxury or indulgence I could not afford. Now, I recognize it as a necessity—an act of self-love that empowers me to engage meaningfully with the world around me. Whether through mindfulness practices, therapy, or simply allowing myself breaks when I need them, I have developed a healthier relationship with myself. This, in turn, enhances my ability to support others without depleting my own energy and mental reserves.
If I could erase my mental health struggles, I would not. While they have been painful and exhausting, they have shaped me into a person of resilience, empathy, and determination. They have taught me the importance of asking for help, showing kindness to myself and others, and fighting for a world where mental health is treated with the same seriousness as physical health. My challenges have given me purpose and direction, motivating me to advocate for change in our society's perception of mental health issues.
Ultimately, my journey with mental health has been about transformation. Each obstacle I have faced has served as a stepping stone toward greater understanding—of myself, of others, and of how we can collectively create environments that foster healing and acceptance. I remain committed to my advocacy work, knowing that each action I take can lead someone else to find their voice, their strength, and ultimately, their path to healing. My journey is ongoing, and with every step, I hope to shine a light for others walking similar paths.

Living with major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and suicidal ideations has profoundly shaped my understanding of mental health and fueled my passion for helping others. My experiences guide my work and emotionally support those facing similar challenges. As a single mother to a son who also struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, I understand the importance of compassion, validation, and accessible mental health resources.
In my role with Veteran Support Consultants, LLC, I assist veterans in navigating the complexities of the VA benefits system while addressing their mental health needs. I've seen how mental health struggles combined with bureaucratic obstacles can heighten feelings of isolation and despair. By providing empathetic guidance and practical advice, I've empowered veterans to access resources that address their financial and emotional well-being.
My commitment to suicide prevention, especially for veterans, is central to my future endeavors. As part of my Ph.D. studies in Community Psychology, my dissertation focuses on identifying effective suicide prevention strategies for veterans. This research will guide my career and contributions to the field, helping me develop evidence-based approaches to promote mental health within the veteran community.
I have also provided wellness and resiliency training to peers, helping them develop coping mechanisms and recognize signs of burnout. These initiatives allow me to share strategies that have supported my mental health journey, empowering others to take control of their well-being.
As I continue my studies and career, I aim to leverage my knowledge in community psychology to create systems that provide accessible mental health resources. By focusing on emotional validation and community support, I will ensure that others have the tools to manage their mental health. My journey has equipped me with the empathy and determination to make a meaningful impact, and I am committed to supporting those in need.
Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Build Together" Scholarship
One of my primary goals is to establish a sustainable, supportive network for mental health advocacy and resource access, particularly for veterans and individuals grappling with mental health challenges. Drawing from my experiences with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and suicidal ideations, as well as my journey as a single mother to a son facing similar obstacles, I have come to deeply understand the value of accessible, compassionate, and comprehensive support systems.
This network will serve as a lifeline for those struggling with their mental health while fostering an environment of empowerment and resilience. It will help individuals navigate their journeys and the complex systems that often feel overwhelming. At the core of this vision is the belief that mental health should not be a barrier to accessing necessary resources, opportunities, or a fulfilling life.
I am committed to dismantling the stigma and bureaucracy that prevent many people from seeking the help they need. I have made progress toward this goal through my work with Veteran Support Consultants, LLC, where I assist veterans in accessing their VA benefits, providing practical advice and emotional support. Through this service, I have witnessed the positive impact that a dedicated, empathetic support system can have on an individual's mental health and ability to thrive. However, I aspire to build something more significant that can extend to broader communities, especially vulnerable populations who lack the guidance and resources necessary to address their mental health needs.
This network will provide access to mental health services and include wellness and resiliency training, peer support groups, and an emphasis on mental health education. By equipping people with tools to understand their mental health, cope with stress, and recognize when they need help, this network will empower individuals to take control of their well-being. The relationships built within this system will foster peer-to-peer support, creating a sense of community for those who may otherwise feel isolated.
Building this future will be transformative for both myself and my community. It will allow me to turn my struggles into something positive and impactful, offering others the same sense of hope and validation that I have found through my healing process. By focusing on mental health advocacy and resource accessibility, I aim to contribute to the well-being of those directly affected and create a ripple effect that promotes a more compassionate and understanding community for everyone. This work will be fulfilling, both personally and professionally, allowing me to support others meaningfully while fostering an environment where mental health challenges are treated with the same care and respect as any other health concern.
