The person who has supported me most in my educational journey is my mother. As a single parent, she carried the weight of raising my brother and me almost entirely on her own, while overcoming obstacles that would have overwhelmed most people. Her unwavering dedication, love, and resilience have shaped who I am and continue to inspire me to pursue my dreams with determination. Growing up, my father struggled with drug addiction and was largely absent from my life. I faced countless hospital visits and difficult moments, wondering why he could not do better for me. Those experiences were painful and confusing, but they also showed me the value of resilience. While I lacked consistent support from him, my mother filled that gap, providing stability, encouragement, and unconditional love. She became both a mother and a father to us, always finding ways to meet our needs and guide us through life’s challenges. My mother’s journey from humble beginnings to providing a better life for our family is nothing short of extraordinary. She started with very little but worked tirelessly, often sacrificing her own comfort, to ensure that my brother and I had every opportunity possible. She instilled in me the belief that education is the key to a brighter future, attending school events, helping with assignments, and teaching me to never let circumstances define my potential. Her work ethic and determination became a blueprint for how I approach my own challenges and goals. Because of her, I learned the importance of perseverance and self-belief. I have seen firsthand that even in the face of hardship, success is possible through hard work and dedication. Her support has motivated me to push myself academically, remain focused on my goals, and strive to be the best version of myself. Every achievement I earn is a reflection of her sacrifices, her guidance, and her unwavering belief in my abilities. I honor my mother by working diligently to achieve the dreams she has always encouraged me to pursue. My goal is to attend college and eventually build a career where I can help others overcome adversity, just as she helped me. I approach every challenge with the resilience and determination I learned from her, understanding that she not only provided for me materially but also equipped me with the mindset to succeed. Her example has taught me that with perseverance, I can turn obstacles into opportunities and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Growing up in a single parent household made my mother’s support essential. Her love and dedication have been the foundation of my growth and ambition. Through her actions, she has shown me what it means to be strong, compassionate, and motivated. I carry her lessons with me in every endeavor, and they continue to drive me to pursue my goals with confidence and purpose. Thanks to my mother, I am prepared to face the challenges of higher education and beyond. Her guidance has shaped me into a resilient, hardworking, and determined individual. I honor her daily by striving for excellence and by working to create a future where I can make her sacrifices meaningful. Her support has been more than instrumental, it has been transformative, and it continues to fuel my journey toward success.

Living with both Asthma and Ovarian Cysts has shaped many parts of my life, often in ways that others cannot easily see. While many students are able to move through their daily routines without thinking about their health, I have had to learn how to balance school, responsibilities, and my future goals while managing conditions that can be unpredictable and physically challenging. Asthma has been a condition I have learned to manage since a young age. Something as simple as weather changes, physical activity, or illness can trigger breathing difficulties that make everyday tasks more complicated. There have been moments when my asthma has made situations feel frightening and overwhelming. In one particularly difficult experience in my life, my asthma even affected my ability to physically get away during a traumatic situation, which showed me just how vulnerable health challenges can sometimes make a person feel. Over time, Ive learned how important it is to listen to my body, stay prepared, and remain disciplined in managing my health. Living with asthma taught me responsibility early in life and forced me to develop resilience when situations felt out of my control. One of the most health challenges I have faced has been dealing with ovarian cysts. The pain from these cysts has at times been extremely intense and disruptive, sometimes even disabling. There were moments when the pain and amount of blood loss became so severe that it required numerous hospital visits and medical attention. These experiences often interrupted my daily routine, including school, important responsibilities, and normal teenage activities. Trying to focus on academics while dealing with unpredictable pain was incredibly difficult, and there were times when it felt discouraging. Despite these challenges, I have refused to allow my health to define or limit my future. Instead, these experiences have strengthened my determination to succeed. There were moments when I had to push through discomfort, stay disciplined with my responsibilities, and remain focused on my long-term goals even when circumstances were difficult. Facing these obstacles has strengthened me mentally and emotionally, teaching me patience, perseverance, and the importance of continuing forward even when life presents unexpected barriers. My experiences have also helped me develop empathy and awareness for others who are facing struggles that may not always be visible. Many people carry challenges silently, and understanding this has made me more compassionate toward others. It has also motivated me to pursue a career where I can contribute to making communities safer and more supportive. In the future, I plan to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and build a career focused on protecting others and supporting my community. I want to work in a field where I can help people feel safe, Advocate for fairness, and contribute to systems that promote justice and accountability. My personal experiences have strengthened my desire to stand up for others and make meaningful difference. Living with asthma and ovarian cysts has presented real challenges, but those challenges have also shaped my character. They have taught me resilience, perseverance, and strength. Rather than allowing obstacles to define my path, I have chosen to use them as motivation to continue pursuing my goals and building a future where I can positively impact the lives of others.

The fentanyl crisis has affected my family in a deeply personal manner. My uncle passed away after unknowingly taking a substance that had been laced with fentanyl. What makes his loss even more heartbreaking is that it happened during what should’ve been the happiest moment of his life. He had recently welcomed a newborn baby boy into the world and started a new car business. He was excited about building a future for his family and creating opportunities for his children. In a single moment, everything changed. His death showed me how dangerous fentanyl truly is and how quickly it can take someone’s life. My family was left grieving not only the loss of someone we loved, but also the future that was taken from him and the memories his boys will never get to experience with their father. Seeing the pain my family went through made the opioid crisis feel very real to me. It is not just something you hear about in the news, it is something that destroys families and leaves lasting impacts on communities. Losing my uncle also made me realize how often people become victims of situations they never intended to be a part of. Many people do not even know fentanyl is present in what they are taking, and that lack of awareness could cost someone their life. His passing motivated me to think deeply about how our justice system, law enforcement, and communities can work together to prevent tragedies like this from happening to other families. This experience has strongly influenced my decision to pursue a Bachelor of science in Criminal Justice. Through my studies, I want to better my understanding on how drug distribution networks operate and how law enforcement can more effectively prevent dangerous substances like fentanyl from reaching communities. I am especially interested in learning about investigative techniques, policy development, and strategies that focus on both prevention and accountability. However, I also believe that solving the fentanyl crisis requires more than enforcement alone. Education, community outreach, and prevention programs are equally important. By pursuing a degree in criminal justice, I hope to gain the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to solutions that focus on protecting communities and raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. My uncle’s death is a reminder to me that behind every statistic is a real person and a real family. His children will grow up hearing stories about the father who loved them and worked hard to build a foundation for his family. While nothing can bring my uncle back, his story continues to motivate me to pursue a career where I can help prevent similar tragedies. Through my education and future work in criminal justice, I hope to play a role in creating safer communities and helping ensure that fewer families experience that kind of loss that mine has endured.
