Through out my childhood, I’ve always been obsessed with books, whether they were fiction, nonfiction, or fantasy but there was one book out there, It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, that impacted my perspective on life. This story showed me how easy it is to get trapped in an abusive relationship.
It ends with us is a story about domestic violence, guilt, and survival. This novel was extremely difficult throughout the story because it’s about a woman’s struggle to witness abuse by her parents while growing up and having experienced it in a relationship, a cycle of abuse forming. The author made me feel everything the protagonist felt, how easy it is to be manipulated and feel for an abuser. I don’t think I could ever put this novel down, apart from me viewing myself as the heroine.
My mother was in an abusive relationship with my father, and part of me could never be the same ever again after growing up in an abusive environment. There’s an incredibly powerful message in this story that shows the protagonist’s weakness and strength, making a difficult decision, so your children won’t be brought up with the mindset of how normalized abuse is.
So, I have concluded why I picked this book including the journey, outcomes, and perspectives.
