Growing up, I didn’t fully understand the weight my mom carried, but I felt it every day. For thirteen years, it was just her, me, and my older brother, and she held everything together with a kind of strength that didn’t need to be announced. She worked late nights, long hours, and jobs that drained her physically and mentally, all so we could have a shot at something better. I remember the sound of the door unlocking long after the sun had gone down, her footsteps tired but steady, and the way she’d still ask us how our day was as if she wasn’t exhausted. Watching her live like that shaped me more than anything else in my life. As a kid, I didn’t have the words for it, but I knew she was sacrificing pieces of herself so we could grow. Now that I’m older, I see the full picture. She wasn’t just paying bills or keeping food on the table she was building a foundation for us, brick by brick, even when she had nothing left to give. She missed sleep, meals, and moments of rest so we wouldn’t have to miss opportunities. That kind of love leaves a mark. It makes you look at your own life and ask what you’re going to do with the chance someone fought so hard to give you. Those years lit a fire in me. Every time I saw her come home drained, every time she told us not to worry even though I could see the stress in her eyes, it pushed me to want more not just for myself, but for her. I don’t want her to spend the rest of her life working herself into the ground. I don’t want her to worry about rent, bills, or whether she can afford to take a day off. She’s spent her whole life putting everyone else first. Now I want to be the one who gives her something back. That’s why I’m so driven to build a stable career, to work with my hands, to stay focused, and to push through every obstacle. I’m not chasing money for the sake of money. I’m chasing freedom hers. I want her to wake up one day and not have to rush anywhere. I want her to enjoy her mornings, take trips, relax, and finally live without that constant pressure she’s carried for so long. I want her to feel proud, not just of what she did for us, but of what her sacrifices allowed me to become. Everything I’m working toward trade school, a career in automotive and diesel repair, eventually opening my own shop comes back to that promise I made to myself. I’m going to give her a life where she can breathe. A life where she doesn’t have to count every dollar. A life where she can enjoy the peace she’s earned a thousand times over. She gave me strength, discipline, and resilience without ever saying those words. Now I want to turn all of that into something real for her. I want to be the reason she finally gets to rest.

Struggling to make ends meet has shaped the way I look at my future, and it has pushed me to search for a path that is both affordable and stable. With 36 thousand dollars already to pay off, I know I can’t risk taking out more loans, especially for trade school. Money problems have made me worry that my dream of going to trade school could slip away, but I’m determined not to let that happen. I chose trade school because the cost of a traditional college is too high, and I needed a career that would let me build a solid future without drowning in debt. That’s when I realized the automotive and diesel trade was the right path for me. I’ve always been confident in my ability to work with my hands, solve problems, and stay focused until the job is done. I enjoy learning how engines work and figuring out how to fix them, and I know that cars, trucks, and machines will always need repairs. Outside of school and work, I’ve always stayed active. I wrestled, played football, and threw for track and field, and each sport taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to push through challenges even when things get tough. Those lessons help me now as I work toward my goals. I also enjoy watching anime, and my favorite show is One Piece. I connect with it because it’s all about chasing your dreams no matter how hard the journey gets. My dream is to open my own auto shop one day, where I can build a business I’m proud of and create a place where people can trust the work I do. But I don’t want my success to be only for me. Once I reach my goals, I want to pay it forward by helping students who are in the same position I’m in students who are close to losing their dreams because of financial struggles. If I cannot find a way to pay for school, I won’t be able to attend, and that puts me even closer to losing my own dream of opening my auto shop in the future. That fear pushes me to work harder, stay focused, and keep believing that I can make it. I want to give others that same hope, support, and opportunity so they can keep moving forward just like I am.

Living in Elizabeth has shown me how much a place can change over time, and growing up here has shaped the person I am today. The city has grown, the people have changed, and life has gotten more expensive and more challenging. But through all of that, one thing stayed the samemy mom’s determination to take care of me and my older brother. Growing up with a single mom who worked late nights and long hours taught me what real strength looks like. She did everything she could to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. There were many nights when my brother and I were home alone because she was out working, doing whatever it took to make sure we had what we needed. Seeing her struggle, seeing how tired she was, and knowing how hard she fought for us is what pushed me to want more for my future. One of the biggest challenges I faced was not always having enough money to enjoy my childhood the way other kids did. I couldn’t always go out, join activities, or buy things I wanted. At the time, it was hard, but now I understand that those moments taught me responsibility and made me appreciate everything I have. They also made me want to build a life where my mom can finally relax and enjoy the years ahead without stress. She spent her whole life taking care of me, and now I want to work hard so I can take care of her. That’s why getting this scholarship means so much to me. I still have 36 thousand dollars left to pay for trade school, and without help, it will be extremely hard to cover the cost. This scholarship would bring me one step closer to finishing trade school and starting my career in the automotive and diesel field. My dream is to open my own auto shop or start a mobile service where I can travel to clients and help them with their vehicles. I want to build a stable future, not just for myself, but for my family. With this scholarship, I can stay on track, complete my training, and turn my dreams into reality.

What makes me excited about pursuing trade school is the journey I will go through and the experience I will gain along the way. I like the idea of learning real skills that I can use for the rest of my life. Instead of only sitting in a classroom, I’ll be working with my hands, solving problems, and learning how things actually work. That kind of learning feels meaningful to me, and it makes me look forward to the future. I know trade school will challenge me, but I’m ready for that because every challenge will help me grow. The trade I’m pursuing is automotive and diesel. I chose this path because I know there will always be a need for skilled mechanics. Cars, trucks, and machines will always need repairs, and people will always need someone they can trust to fix them. I’ve always enjoyed figuring out how things work, and this trade gives me the chance to turn that interest into a career. It also gives me confidence knowing that once I finish school, I’ll have a stable job waiting for me. My goals after I graduate are to start working in an auto shop so I can build experience and learn from people who have been in the field for years. I want to improve my skills and understand how the business works. After I gain enough experience, I want to go out on my own. My dream is to either open my own auto shop or start a mobile auto service where I travel to my clients and fix their vehicles. No matter which path I choose, I want to build a future where I’m doing what I love and helping people at the same time.

Ever since I was young, I wanted to help my mom. She worked hard every day, and when her car broke down, it made life even harder for her. Watching her struggle with car problems made me want to learn how to fix cars so I could help her and others like her. That’s what inspired me to choose automotive and diesel technology as my career path. My dream is to attend Universal Technical Institute in Bloomfield. I know that by going there, I will get the best training and skills I need to become a great mechanic. My main goal is to make sure my mom never has to worry about car problems again. I want to be able to fix her car whenever she needs help and also help other people who are struggling with their vehicles. One day, I hope to open my own auto shop. I want it to be a place where people can get their cars fixed at a fair price, especially those who are having a tough time. I believe that skilled work like fixing cars is important because it helps people get to work, take care of their families, and live better lives. This scholarship would mean a lot to me. It would help pay for my classes and tools at Universal Technical Institute, so I can keep learning and working toward my goals. It would also remind me that doing the right thing and helping others is always worth it. With this support, I know I can finish my training, become a great mechanic, and one day open my own shop to help people in my community. I am proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship and for helping me keep moving forward on my journey.
