When I graduate I hope to live out my dream of going into the business industry and breaking the cycle of Mexican families not going to college. I am the oldest daughter, niece and granddaughter of my family and my little sisters and cousins all look up to me. On occasion my little cousin even calls me for help with her homework. I will be the first in my family to attend and complete college/university. My family has always told me that by completing a high level education I will be opening new opportunities for me and my sisters. Although it is difficult being first generation and figuring everything out on my own I believe I can do it and create a new path to education and ending the pattern of working in the fields or 2 jobs just to get by. My dream is to attend a 4-year university. I want to challenge myself with university coursework and expand my knowledge in various subjects such as math and marketing. My plan is to earn a bachelor's degree in business. In my high school I have taken Money Matters which is an honors class and finance class, Introduction to Business which taught me how to navigate and use the computer and I have also taken college courses such as Introduction to Business and Introduction to Management. I have completed all those courses with an A showing my passion and interest in learning about the business world. Joining AVID has helped me a lot by guiding me through my senior year of high school such as applying to college and preparing for college. While attending college I also plan on taking advantage of programs and events that will help me learn more about my major and hopefully further my knowledge on my career. If there is something AVID has brought to my attention, it's my family's income. I have a family of five including my parents, me and my 2 little sisters. Although we are not struggling financially, there are many sacrifices my parents make so me and my sisters can have what we need and want. Pursuing a bachelor's degree will not only benefit me, I will use it to benefit my family as well to contribute to their financial stability and hopefully one day be able to reciprocate their sacrifices that they have made for me and my siblings. Once I graduate I plan on acquiring a job that I love and enjoy. I want to work at a place where I enjoy the work environment and feel welcomed and comfortable. By pursuing my career I want to inspire my sisters to do the same and bring pride to my family. Even though they don't tell me physically I can tell they are as excited about me graduating and continuing my academics as I am.
