Bio

Hi! My name is Dasha, and I’m currently a student at Midlands Technical College working on my prerequisites for the Radiologic Technology program. I’ve always had a passion for healthcare and helping others, and I’m working hard every day to build a stable, fulfilling career for myself in the medical field. I work full-time while attending school part-time, so I know what it means to hustle and stay committed even when things get hard. I’m also a first-generation college student, and that motivates me to push forward, not just for myself but for the example I want to set. Balancing work, school, and life hasn’t been easy especially financially, but I’m determined to stay focused and keep going. I’m looking for scholarships that can help lighten the load so I can continue pursuing my dream without being buried in debt.

    TTOG Scholarship
When I first arrived in America as a 13-year-old adoptee from Ukraine, I didn’t know a word of English. I had spent my early childhood surviving abuse, abandonment, and homelessness on the streets of Odessa. I never imagined I would one day be sitting in a classroom, much less taking college-level courses. But I did. And along the way, I learned the true meaning of being both nice and hard working, two qualities that define who I am today. Taking advanced courses like Dual Enrollment and Honors Anatomy and Physiology at Midlands Technical College has challenged me in more ways than I ever expected. As someone who missed out on much of my formal education as a child, these classes weren’t just difficult, they were daunting. I had to push myself academically while also learning how to manage my time, ask for help when needed, and support others around me who were struggling too. These classes prepared me to be hard working not just in school, but in life. I studied late into the night after work shifts, watched endless tutorials to grasp difficult concepts, and kept going even when I felt completely overwhelmed. Through it all, I learned that hard work is not about being perfect, it’s about showing up every day and giving it everything you’ve got, even when it’s hard. But being nice matters just as much. My past has taught me that kindness can be a lifeline. In my classes, I always try to be someone who encourages others, shares resources, and helps classmates when they’re falling behind. I know how it feels to struggle in silence, so I do my best to create a space where others feel seen and supported. Whether it’s forming study groups or simply checking in on a classmate, I’ve found that even small acts of kindness can go a long way. While I’ve worked hard to succeed academically, my financial circumstances have been a constant challenge. I don’t receive financial support from my adoptive family, and every semester I have to fight to afford tuition, textbooks, transportation, and basic living expenses. There have been times when I couldn’t register for classes on time or had to skip meals to make rent. I currently work full-time while attending college part-time, and though I’ve applied for financial aid, it doesn’t cover everything. My dream is to enter the healthcare field, not only to create stability for myself but to help others who’ve experienced trauma like I have. Sometimes, I feel like I’m walking a tightrope, trying to balance work, school, bills, and mental health without falling off. But despite everything, I remain committed to my education. I know it’s my path to a better future, and I refuse to let financial hardship define my limits. The Giles family motto speaks directly to the values I live by. Being nice and hard working has helped me not just survive, but grow. My advanced courses have prepared me for a future where I can make a difference, not just academically or professionally, but as a human being who leads with compassion and persistence. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship. Your support would not only ease my financial burden, it would also be an investment in someone who is determined to give back and lift others along the way.
