My name is Darcy Harris. I attended Hampton University. After losing my Father a big piece of me left with him. For years after his death, I’ve fought a vigorous battle with depression. Although I was dealing with depression, I felt that I had to be strong for everyone else in situations where it seemed almost impossible to have strength. It led to the point of me wanting to give up, but I fought the negative feelings and pushed myself to do better. The adversity that I’ve faced in life has prepared me for the steps I’m willing to take to become a Physicians Assistant. I want to be able to understand my patients by forming connections with them and allowing them to feel comfortable, that way I can use my strengths to provide care for them. I also want to practice social justice by using my skills in medicine to make a change in the racial disproportionalities in the medical field. I intend to work my hardest and be the best at what I feel like I was called to do. I’m ready to work the long hours, make difficult decisions, face hardships, and most importantly serve patients.
