Finances are a hole, dug deeper and deeper until death. Prices rise and I watch my parent’s faces fall. I would like to be their light in the darkness. As I got my first job I realized the truth of the economy, the ever sinking hole. I was ignorant about finances until then, finally awakening as I started buying on my own. Realizing how tough it must be for my parents as the economy worsens and their bills go up but their pay stays the same. My parents and I often talk about their finances and expenses even their financial situation. When I was a kid they would have to borrow my birthday money to be able to pay bills. We lived in a house that was not our own. Having lost ours we came to live with my grandmother and her sister in a tiny house far away from school. My father was always away at work, affecting our family connection. Living in a small house without anyone having a room for themselves was tough, but to little me it was like a sleepover. We lived there for years until we were able to buy a house of our own. Even as we have our own house we face a lot of financial trouble. Paying for my father’s or my own hospital bills, continuing paying the house mortgage, and overall keeping up with the skyrocketing prices. I am a dual enrollment student, I take college classes for free. Though as I enroll for classes each semester I become aware of the cost. My fee being waived from being fortunate enough to go to a good high school. I wonder how much more I would be affected by college expenses had I not been taking these classes. As I view tuitions for colleges and universities it becomes real. The realization taking over my mind. If my I cannot pay for my education what will I do? It has become a question of whether I will be able to go to the best college for me or not. The answer is becoming clearer. My mother says not to worry, “We will help you, please don’t get in your head about it.” I may ask my parents though their financial burdens lay heavy on their shoulders. My constant need for doctor appointments takes up much of their finances. How will it take up mine in the future? What I learn from will guide me, make my financial situation easier to handle. I will be flying smoothly as a bird in the sky, or the best I can with the plummeting economic state. I will learn to become my own person handling my money and finances. Thinking smoothly, smartly, and effectively for medical payments, house or apartment payments, groceries and bills, and the expenses I will make for my kids when I have a family. With this plan I will become the best version of myself fit for the financial problems thrown at me. For when the time comes I will help my parents with their finances, so that they can live in peace without the cloud of money troubles storming above their heads. I won’t know I’ve made it in life until I have helped them. I will become the first successful person in my family.
