Hello! My name is Danish Abbasi and I am a first-generation, low-income Pakistani Muslim American. I was raised in a household of twelve people which consisted of my family and other close relatives. Growing up as a Pakistani Muslim in the US was very hard because I was met with discrimination and Islamophobic slurs daily, and because of this, I haven't really felt secure with my identity at all. In fact, I still struggle and am insecure about my identity to this day. However, I started to get involved with hobbies to distract myself and escape into my own reality. I started to get involved with graphic design when I taught myself how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in 5th grade. Eventually, I also got my younger brother involved. I wanted to learn with someone else because it was more interesting to learn with others rather than by yourself. When I reached middle school, I started to virtually volunteer to organizations that aligned with my values and missions I believed in as well. Aside from my interests, I plan on going into a field that incorporates computer science and art to generate designs from AI, and then using those designs within the context of social justice advocacy. I also plan on ultimately acquiring a PhD and being able to support me and my family financially. I also would like to give back to low-income, first-generation students and make college more accessible since I know how hard it is to pay off college by yourself. Aside from my career plans, I would like to do a lot of philanthropy and volunteer work as well in the future.
