I want to major in Pre-Professional Health Studies or Biology in college to become a doctor. I will use this education to hopefully get a job in a hospital where I can help people every day. Specifically, I want to become a Medical Intensivist and work in an ICU. By studying this in college, I hope to learn proper procedures and gain knowledge about biology, chemistry, and the human body to be able to truly understand how to be a successful doctor. Through Pre-Med coursework and research opportunities, I will be exposed to what it’s like working in the medical field. These experiences will prepare me not just for medical school, but also for serving people facing real health problems.
As a doctor, I will be able to impact my community by providing healthcare services. I will be able to diagnose illnesses and suggest different treatments to help improve my patients' health. I can provide reliable medical care and advocate for healthier lifestyles. I want not just to treat a patient and send them away, but help them to understand better what is going on with their bodies and how to prevent this issue from occurring again. I want to help people be confident that they are healthy and comfortable with their well-being. Patients will be able to trust me and know that I will help them throughout their illness or conditions. My mother is a registered nurse, and she constantly tells me stories about her patients. I specifically remember one story where my mom had a patient who would rarely let her leave the room. He would talk her ear off about his life, how he was feeling, and anything he could think of. At the end of his stay, he thanked her for listening and explained how his family didn't show up, so no one else would listen to him. This is truly when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Being able to be of service to someone not only in a physical way, but also emotionally, seems like the most rewarding profession. I want to assist people in their most vulnerable moments in life. I hope to create a comforting environment for my patients and their families to work through any difficult times. I want to be remembered for my compassion towards them. Additionally, this education will not only scientifically benefit me, but also enhance my problem-solving skills, which are crucial to being a physician. It will teach me how to show compassion to my patients and make them comfortable throughout whatever their conditions may be. Further along in my career, I also hope to mentor future students and pass along the knowledge and education I will have. This will help me create a lasting impact on my community and allow me to give back for many years, even after I've finished my work. Through my college education, I aim to not only treat patients but also to strengthen my community through compassion, advocacy, and leadership in healthcare.

I was inspired to pursue a career in the medical field by my mother, who is a registered nurse and works in the Intensive Care Unit. Seeing how dedicated my mother is to helping and caring for her patients made me realize that I want to do the same thing. My mom works night shifts and frequently comes home exhausted, but when she wakes up from her naps, I love to listen to her patient stories from the night before. Hearing how deeply she cares for her patients and works to brighten their days made me want to do the same thing. I specifically remember one story where my mom had a patient who would rarely let her leave the room. He would talk her ear off about his life, how he was feeling, and anything he could think of. At the end of his stay, he thanked her for listening and explained how his family didn't show up, so no one else would listen to him. This is really when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. Being able to be of service to someone in not only a physical way, but also emotionally, seems like the most rewarding profession. However, I want to go a little bit further than my mom and become a doctor. I would like to work in a hospital as a Medical Intensivist and follow in her footsteps.
