Residing with my grandmother holds some of the best memories I cherish dearly to this present day. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year as it was the one time the mouthwatering aroma of Jamaican Fruit Cake would fill our home. Over the years being able to assist my grandmother while she baked slowly but surely became more of a hobby for me than it was for her. These moments mean the world to me not only because I see her as my role model but also because of the bond we share. We have always very close and baking would always give me the opportunity to be even closer to her. Being able to bring our extended family together from near and far with one sweet treat would result in all of us talking, singing, dancing, reminiscing on old memories and much more to the point we would lose track of time. Although I started with recipes she taught me, I began to realize that even though they are made exactly the same there always seemed to be a missing ingredient I couldn’t quite to find that she achieves effortlessly. Personally I believe it’s the extra ounce of love she puts in everything she does. Having said that , i then began to look deeper into what the world of baking really entailed and how i could implement my extra ounce of love just as she does.During this time in my life platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, played a great role in the baker I am today as it remains the foundation to key tips and strategies I have used to expand my knowledge and results while baking. Baking makes me feel as if I am in an alternate universe where I am in full control . Being able to express myself in a way that is so common in social settings makes me feel though I have the potential to impact others and their families , friends , people they may not even know , etc by bringing out the best moments in them as my family would. In addition I truly do enjoy the peace it brings me as I perfect every cupcake , cookie , cake , brownie , etc to represent not only who I am but also my potential. My growth between my youth and now are dedicated to show my grandmother just how much she means to me and how much I value even the slightest things she reaches me in hopes that one day she will continue to remain proud of me just as I am of her.
