WinnerI always knew I wanted to pursue a career that advocates for others, but I was certain this was what I wanted to do when I began interning at Rutledge & Rutledge. These attorneys are well-known to everyone in our small town for the amount of help they provide to everyone. They demonstrate how much it means to a community to have attorneys who care about people’s issues and want to stand up for them. With the example they set plus my passion for advocacy, representation, and justice, I knew a legal career was right for me. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and work toward a future without inequality or underrepresentation. I believe everyone deserves a chance and someone on their side, no matter what their circumstances may be. My desire for justice and fairness is why I want to work in the legal field.
I hope to make a deep, meaningful impact on those I help. I do not want it to be shallow, but rather the type of impact that you remember for years because of the kindness someone showed you. The legal system is complex and overwhelming, and I want to be the person who can approach my clients with empathy and understanding. I hope they will remember more than the fact that I simply resolved their case. I want to be the person who listens and hears everything my clients have to say, because it is a part of their story. Clients deserve to have someone who wants to understand them and help them navigate a difficult system during a difficult time. Everyone deserves to have their voices heard, and I want to be an advocate for those who cannot be their own. This impact is deep and lasting, making the difference between a good lawyer and a great lawyer who goes beyond expectations.
This career will allow me to advance justice and serve my community through compassion and accessibility. Justice is not only about the outcome of a case, but also about the process in which everything occurs. When the process of working on a case is full of support and clear communication, it can feel far more fair and just, no matter the outcome. With a combination of strong support, compassion, and care for my clients and their stories, I can help work toward a future in which legal services are accessible and supportive within my community. This means being a resource for my community as a whole, and not just those who come to me. I will do this by demonstrating justice and fairness in my work both in the office and in everyday life. I also want to help those in my community who cannot afford it, such as advocating for policy change within the field or working as a public defender in order to directly improve their lives. My goal is to be an active member of a strong community, where everyone has equal opportunity to have their voices heard and is confident that the lawyer defending them cares about the person as much as the case.
