Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Imagine seeing a 17-year-old young woman outside your local store, praying and counting her money to see if is enough to buy formula to feed her child. This 17-year-old was my mother, a single mother at the time trying to buy food with little to no money to support me as a baby. She once recited this story to me, she was strong in her faith and prayed an incredible amount. After she went inside to see her options of what she could buy, she went over to the baby section and found that each container of formula was 99 cents! At this time she realized that she was not alone and even though my biological father was not in the picture anymore, she had someone who would watch over her and provide for both of us, God.
A couple of years later, she found my step-father, who was also a teen parent, and they fell in love. They met at church and had so much in common, including that they were both searching for a Christ-centered relationship. When they got together they knew it would be difficult to take care of 3 children, close in age, and help support them with very little money since they could not attend college for the reason of supporting us early on. They stayed strong in their faith and relied on God to provide, and he did.
Even though they could not enjoy their teen years, like I do, and had to support their family and start working immediately, I want to make them proud by attending College. This is something they wished they had done. I would like to say that my mom is my inspiration because she was strong for so many years without any support from anyone and showed me that if she finished high school while taking care of me, I could do anything now that I have more opportunities because of her sacrifices. She is my biggest supporter and I do not want to let her down. I want to show her that her dedication, perseverance, and resilience were worth something. Just like she has helped me growing up, I want to help others similarly.
I want to become an RN (Registered Nurse), and yes it will come with its own challenges, including paying for my tuition, but I know "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength"- Philippians 4:13. Because my parents currently have 5 children and didn't go to College, It is difficult for them to help me pay my tuition for College. They already pay for my older sister's College at bible school, I do not want them to have to struggle financially to help me as well. They have already struggled so much in life and I do not want to add another burden to them, winning this scholarship should help me get closer to my goal. Being an RN would show them that they still made an impact and their sacrifices did pay off. Whether it was to take me to my cross-country practices, watch my folkloric performances, or simply just take me to school, they made a difference and shaped me into the person I am today. Not only did they make a difference in my life, but through me, we can make a difference together.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Math is found in absolutely everything around us, from the skyscrapers to our shoes. Without math, our world would not be well-structured and in order. We use math in our everyday lives without thinking and use products that need modeling and measurements to be created. Out of the many ways we can use math, the way that I love to use it the most is in the form of baking. Baking relies on both the components of science and math; in order to follow recipes, you need precise measurements to make your baked goods taste wonderful. Every so often, I have to scale up or scale down certain recipes by adding or subtracting fractions. Not only this but sometimes I need to convert tablespoons into teaspoons or do the opposite. It becomes difficult to do and I need to look up formulas to convert the ingredients precisely, or else everything could go wrong. Math helps you create all these fantastic, tasteful, and delicious treats that take you back to when your grandma would bake you the best chocolate chip cookies that made you feel warm and fuzzy on a rainy day. Math can help you with many problems in life but the only problem I wish to solve is having a nice treat after a long day of doing homework.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
As a child, I was scared of needles, blood, and everything in between because of an accident I had to go through when I was in 3rd grade. It was an experience that could only traumatize a kid, and for a while, it did. I was scared of getting shots and would even cry at times but as I got older I realized there wasn't anything to worry about. While I grew up I learned more about being in the medical field whether it was through books, movies, or stories I would hear. Without nurses, doctors, and surgeons our world would not have enough healthcare help and suffer. When I participated in the GATE program, in elementary school, they taught me the importance of surgeons by dissecting pig hearts and learning more about the field. We learned about the brain, the lungs, and the heart. It was interactive and beneficial to gain an understanding of how people in this field work and what they will have to learn to get into this profession. I didn't really know I wanted to be a RN and at first, I wanted to be an environmentalist or a cop. All I knew I wanted to do with my life was make the world a better place and have some action while doing it because I didn't want to spend my life stuck behind a desk. While in high school, I enjoyed stories and learning more about what can help me in the future to continue on this path. I joined AVID to help me find good colleges, guide me, give me financial help options, show me skills to take off to college, and lastly, help achieve my dream. As I get closer to graduation, I know I have to give it my all in my AP and honors classes to be able to have a sustainable job in the future and make my parents proud. I have done things like getting my CPR and First Aid certification, which I took a couple of months ago, to prepare me for what it's going to be like. It was a great first-time experience that made me realize I want to enter this field. For this reason, I will be taking Human Anatomy and this will hopefully do me good to affirm that this is where I want to dedicate my life. My major will be a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN) to help in hospitalized facilities and help save lives.

Being a Registered Nurse would allow me to combine my passion for caring for others with my interest in the medical field. If I could use my skills to help others, why not do so? I feel an immediate calling in this field and I believe that I can change many lives that surround me by simply being able to be someone they could reley on if they need medical advice or even mental advice. I see myself as a caring, sweet, and patient person. These attributes could be used for when I become a nurse in the future.
Millions of people all over the world need immediate help, who is always there to save lives? First responders, EMTs, Paramedics, and Registered Nurses are always available. Without these important people, many lives would not have been saved and many of us would not even be here. I want to be part of this group, saving lives and seeing their lives being changed right before their eyes because they have a second opportunity to live. This is an amazing experience that I would love to share with others. I know it will not be an easy task to achieve, but I believe that I can get there with persistence and dedication. After reading books, reading articles, and watching the news, we see the dangers many people face; this is why I want to be a registered nurse.
While I contemplated if this was really what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I researched and asked family and friends who were in this field. When debating a career in the medical field, I took a CPR and first aid class to have an insight into some of the training nurses needed to complete. As I was exploring my interest in a part of nursing, I loved it! It was not easy to get my certification at 16 years old but it sparked this new longing of being able to help others.
In my current job as a Lil Kickers soccer coach, I often get positive feedback when I communicate with children and their parents. I have to find the perfect words for their age and be positive most of the time. I have also gotten multiple awards for public speaking. With this being said, I know how to interact with people of all ages, small or big groups. I can use these communication skills as a nurse to speak to children, teens, and adults in a way that if there is bad news to break, I can do it as best as possible or if people have lost hope, I can restore that hope by being positive. This is the vision I have of myself as a future nurse.

While deciding if I would have liked being in the medical field, I took a CPR and first aid class. As I was exploring my interest of a part of nursing, I loved it! With my CPR and First Aid Certification, I have made an environment that is safe for those around me. I constantly babysit and volunteer at my church as a Sunday School Teacher. These attributes and skills make the parents feel like their children are in safe hands. Knowing that I can save many lives with a simple skill I know, I can make a great impact on someone else's life.
Money for my family has not come easy, since there are 7 people in the household. With 5 children in the house, I do not want to put the burden on my parents for them having to pay for my College or University. I currently have 2 part-time jobs to help save up but I pay my bills, phone and Invisalign. As someone who has had to work hard to buy what I want and need, this scholarship could help contribute to making an impact for those who need medical attention.

Nikhil Desai Reinventing Healthcare Scholarship
If I could change one thing about our current healthcare system, I would focus on improving accessibility and affordability for everyone. Here's an explanation of why this change is crucial and how it could be implemented. Why accessibility and affordability matter: Many people face significant barriers to accessing healthcare services. These barriers can be due to geographic location, socioeconomic status, or lack of insurance. By making healthcare more accessible, we ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to receive the care they need. When healthcare is affordable and accessible, people are more likely to seek preventive care. This can lead to early detection of diseases, which are often less costly to treat and can lead to better health outcomes. High healthcare costs can lead to financial strain for individuals and families. Reducing these costs can alleviate financial stress and improve the overall economic well-being of the population. Improved access to healthcare can lead to better public health outcomes. When more people can receive vaccinations, screenings, and treatments, the community's overall health improves, reducing the spread of diseases and lowering healthcare costs in the long run. One approach to making healthcare more accessible and affordable is to implement a system of universal health coverage. This means that all individuals would have access to essential healthcare services without suffering financial hardship. For those who cannot afford healthcare, subsidies and financial assistance can be provided. This could be in the form of government-funded programs or sliding-scale fees based on income. This ensures that even the most vulnerable populations have access to necessary medical services. Implementing regulations to control the prices of medications and medical procedures can also help make healthcare more affordable. By negotiating prices with companies and healthcare providers, the government can help reduce the overall cost of healthcare. Investing in community health programs that focus on education, prevention, and early intervention can also improve accessibility. These programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of different communities, ensuring that everyone has access to the information and services they need to stay healthy. Improving accessibility and affordability in healthcare is a crucial change that could have far-reaching benefits. By implementing universal health coverage, providing financial assistance, regulating prices, and investing in community health programs, we can create a more effective healthcare system. This change would not only improve individual health outcomes but also enhance the overall well-being of society.
