My name is Daniela and I am from Colombia. I have been living in the United States for three years, and I am currently studying Early Childhood Education. Back in my country, I studied social work; and working in a Priority Housing Project aimed at victims of the Colombian armed conflict has been one of the most significant experiences in my life. This experience raised my interest in working with children. I learned that as human beings, we are natural agents of change; and I want to focus my career on working with children as a way to positively impact our society.
Today, as a Latina who lives in the United States, I am aware of the needs of our global society. There is no country or school in the world that is not vulnerable to problems related to violence and discrimination, but the hope that the new generations offer to us fills my passion to fight for peace and equality.
What I have to offer as a future teacher to the new generation, is my dedication and commitment to advocating for an inclusive and multicultural society. My classroom will be a safe place where all students are valued equally. We will learn together that our differences enrich our capacities to grow as a whole and as a person, and that cooperation does not have color or language. Through a book, a story, a play, or a poem, we will reflect on our rights and responsibilities as citizens, the potential of union in our community, and the power of empathy in our actions.
