My father’s journey as both a soldier and an entrepreneur has had a major influence on my educational and career goals. Growing up, I watched him balance multiple responsibilities at the same time. He worked a full time job, served as a reservist in the Army, and still found the determination to start his own machinist company from the ground up. I remember the long hours he spent after work, often late into the night, focused on learning new skills, finding customers, and building his business. He did not take shortcuts, and he never gave up when things were difficult. Watching his work ethic develop over the years showed me what commitment and perseverance truly look like.
Eventually, his company grew strong enough to become his full time career. Seeing that transition happen was inspiring because it proved that dedication and patience can lead to real success. My father did not achieve his goals overnight. He invested years of effort before seeing the results, and that lesson has stayed with me. It has shaped how I approach my own education. I understand that earning a degree and pursuing a competitive career requires discipline and long term focus. His journey taught me that progress comes from consistent effort, even when results are not immediate.
My father’s military service also had a strong impact on my educational journey. The values he developed through his service, such as responsibility, accountability, and resilience, were present throughout my upbringing. Education was always treated as a priority in our household. He emphasized the importance of learning, self improvement, and setting goals for the future. That mindset encouraged me to take school seriously and to push myself academically.
Because of his influence, I developed the motivation to pursue higher education and a meaningful career. I am currently working toward a degree in aerospace administration and operations, a field that combines leadership, technical knowledge, and organizational skills. This path reflects many of the lessons I learned from watching my father build his business. Just as he had to manage resources, plan for the future, and lead through challenges, I am preparing to develop the skills needed to succeed in the aviation industry.
His example showed me that it is possible to build something greater than yourself through hard work and dedication. It also taught me that challenges are opportunities to grow rather than reasons to quit. I carry those lessons with me as I continue my educational journey and work toward my career goals. My father’s experience as both a servicemember and a business owner continues to inspire me to stay disciplined, remain focused, and pursue success with determination.

Aviation has had a major impact on my life, shaping who I am and influencing the path I have chosen. From the moment I became involved with flying, I realized it was more than just a skill or a job; it became a way to grow, challenge myself, and take on responsibility in ways I had never imagined. Flying has taught me discipline, focus, and the importance of preparation. Every flight requires careful planning and attention to detail, and I have learned that even small mistakes can have serious consequences. This understanding has carried over into other parts of my life, helping me to become more organized, responsible, and confident in the decisions I make.
One of the biggest ways aviation has influenced me is by giving me a sense of purpose and direction. Working as a Technical Inspector for the AH-64E Apache, I am responsible for ensuring aircraft are safe and mission-ready. This role has reinforced the value of teamwork and accountability. I have learned that aviation is not something you do alone; it requires trust in your team and clear communication. Every mission, whether it is training or an actual operation, depends on everyone performing their role effectively. This responsibility has strengthened my leadership skills and helped me understand the importance of serving others while maintaining high standards for myself.
Flying has also opened opportunities for personal and professional growth. It has motivated me to pursue further education in aviation management and to seek a career as a pilot through ROTC. Aviation has shown me that learning never stops; there is always a new skill to master, a new challenge to overcome, or a way to improve. The discipline and persistence required in aviation have pushed me to strive for excellence, whether in academics, physical fitness, or my military duties. I have also developed a strong work ethic because I know that success in aviation depends on preparation, consistency, and focus.
Beyond the practical and professional benefits, aviation has given me a unique perspective on life. Flying allows me to see the world from above, which brings a sense of freedom and clarity. It has helped me appreciate the value of patience, persistence, and perspective. Challenges that might seem overwhelming on the ground often appear manageable from the cockpit because I have learned to approach problems methodically and stay calm under pressure.
In conclusion, aviation has deeply shaped my life by teaching me responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. It has inspired my educational and career goals, strengthened my work ethic, and provided a unique perspective on challenges and opportunities. Flying is more than a skill or career; it has become a central part of who I am and how I approach life. The lessons I have learned from aviation will continue to guide me in the future, both in my career as a pilot and in everyday life.

Watching my parents and others around me work tirelessly to provide for their families taught me that success is earned through dedication and helping others. These lessons shaped the person I am today and gave me a strong sense of responsibility and determination. In this role, I am responsible for ensuring the safety and readiness of complex aircraft, overseeing maintenance, and making sure all procedures meet strict standards. I also manage soldiers and coordinate with multiple teams in high-pressure situations. These experiences taught me how to make careful decisions, lead with confidence, and solve problems quickly. They also helped me understand the importance of teamwork and accountability, skills that I want to bring into my future career in aviation management.
Life outside of the Army has also shaped who I am. Balancing family responsibilities with my work and education has taught me time management, patience, and perseverance. My wife and I are raising our children while planning for a future that includes college and a career change. At the same time, I have earned college credits and maintained a 3.25 GPA, which showed me that hard work and dedication pay off. Veterans Next Generation Scholarship
Growing up in a military family had a profound impact on the person I have become today. My father served in the U.S. Army for most of my life, and because of his dedication to service, I was exposed to the military lifestyle from an early age. I watched firsthand the level of discipline, commitment, and sacrifice that military service requires. More importantly, I saw how those values carried over into every aspect of life, including family, friendships, community involvement, and education. My father taught me that being your best is not something you do only at work, but something you strive for in everything you do. That mindset shaped my character and influenced many of the decisions I would later make.
In 2018, I made the decision to join the Army myself. Following in my father’s footsteps was both an honor and a responsibility. My time in the military has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. I faced obstacles that pushed me mentally and physically, but those challenges helped me grow in ways I never expected. I developed resilience, accountability, and leadership skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The Army also gave me a strong sense of purpose, knowing that my work contributed to something larger than myself. Through long hours, high expectations, and demanding environments, I learned the importance of teamwork, trust, and perseverance.
Serving in the Army also helped me discover my passion for aviation. Being part of a field that requires precision, attention to detail, and technical knowledge motivated me to continue learning and improving myself. I realized that education would play a critical role in achieving my long term goals. As I prepare to transition out of the military with an honorable discharge, I see this next chapter as an opportunity to build upon the foundation the Army has given me. The discipline, time management, and work ethic I developed during my service will directly support my success in higher education.
I plan to continue my education in aviation at Oklahoma State University, where I can further develop my knowledge and skills in a field I am passionate about. Pursuing a college degree represents more than just academic achievement for me. It represents growth, opportunity, and the ability to create a stable future for my family. As a husband and father, my motivation extends beyond personal success. I want to set an example for my family by showing the importance of perseverance, education, and hard work.
My journey from growing up as the son of a veteran, to becoming a soldier myself, and now transitioning into higher education has shaped my values and goals. I am proud of my military service and grateful for the lessons it has taught me. Those experiences have prepared me to take the next step in my life with confidence and determination. I am committed to continuing my personal and professional growth, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead as I pursue my education and future career in aviation.
