Hello! My name is Daniel Ige, and I am glad you are giving me the opportunity to share my story. I am currently in my first year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology looking to double major in computer science and mathematics. I have had an exciting first semester so far, and I have learned so much in terms of not only my education but also career paths and most importantly being an adult. Although I am not sure exactly what career that I want to enter, I have always known that I want to solve meaningful problems and be at the forefront of the technology space. This is why higher education, specifically being a part of a community like that of MIT, has been so consequential to my growth. People here use their incredible problem-solving capability to solve difficult challenges and candidly encourage others to join in on their endeavors. There is a constant engine of discovery and novelty that fosters another generation of critical thinkers, a generation that I look to be a part of. Having said that, one of the most important lessons that I learned at MIT is that I really do not know very much; there is simply so much to explore. Being conscious of what I don’t know, however, has given me the opportunity to grow. The ceiling, if there even is one, is exponentially higher than when I was in high school and for that I am truly grateful for my opportunity in higher education.
