Jorge A. Quizhpi Memorial Scholarship
Ever since I was in elementary school, I've excelled in mathematics. There was an issue though. I didn't know what I could've applied that knowledge to besides being a teacher or an engineer. I've always considered engineering and civil engineering is my backup major for the colleges that I have applied to. But civil engineering isn't my main goal. Neither is teaching although I do like to help others out.
As I've continued through my academic career, I've demonstrated to be a precise student. Being precise would be an efficient skill that can contribute to my desired major. In 2nd grade, I remember being told that I was disrespectful to teachers because I interrupted them and corrected them. As I've grown older, I've realized that I was disrespectful to my 2nd grade teacher because I corrected her after she had gotten a multiplication problem wrong.
That story has stayed with me all the way through high school. So have the recommendations that my teachers and my counselor have given me which was to pursue accounting because I'm a very precise student. I listened to my teachers and I decided to take an accounting class my junior year of high school. In that College Accounting class, I learned that my teachers were right about accounting being a very precise field and how every number must be in the right place in order for things to work out. I continued on through the accounting class and I liked it a lot and I ended up being persuaded by my friend to do an internship. At first, I didn't know what an internship was, but I decided to go for it. I applied to an accounting internship and I got accepted to be an intern at Acme Industries in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
My first day at the internship, I was presented with where I would be an intern at for the next two weeks and I was also given the opportunity to meet many amazing people there and take a tour of the building. During my time at the internship, I was tutored by three ladies, Val, Barbara, and Shannon and they helped me learn a lot about accounting and how to work with the bookkeeping side of accounting.
My College Accounting class and my internship at Acme Industries solidified my interest in accounting and helped me learn a lot about my goals. With my knowledge in accounting and also other aspects of business, I would like to start a Mexican restaurant where I could serve my mother's best dishes and also start a construction business with my brother to help him with his goals of being an architect.
I strongly believe that this scholarship will help me in pursuing higher education to achieve my goals and I will give my best effort to help those around me.
