Imm Astronomy Scholarship
I am pursuing a career in the field of science with a strong focus on research and exploration, particularly in astronomy. My interest in astronomy developed from a deep curiosity about the universe and how it functions. I have always been fascinated by questions about the origins of stars, the formation of planets, the existence of black holes, and the possibility of life beyond Earth. Astronomy challenges humanity to explore beyond visible limits and pushes the boundaries of scientific understanding. Being part of a field that seeks to answer such profound questions inspires me to dedicate my academic and professional future to scientific discovery.
What draws me most to astronomy is its combination of observation, mathematics, physics, and advanced technology. It is a discipline that requires critical thinking, analytical skills, and innovation. Through telescopes, satellites, space missions, and computational modeling, astronomers gather data that helps us understand cosmic phenomena. The idea that small observations can lead to major discoveries motivates me to contribute to this expanding body of knowledge. It is not only about studying distant objects; it is about understanding our place in the universe and recognizing how interconnected scientific systems are.
My interest in this field is also driven by curiosity and problem-solving. I enjoy exploring complex concepts and analyzing information to reach logical conclusions. Astronomy presents challenges that require patience, precision, and collaboration. Researchers often work in teams across international institutions, sharing data and insights to achieve breakthrough discoveries. I am drawn to this collaborative environment because it promotes learning from others while contributing individual expertise. I see it as a field where continuous growth is essential, and knowledge evolves as new technology becomes available.
In the next ten years, my ideal job would be working as a professional astronomer or research scientist at an observatory, research institute, university, or space agency. I aspire to be involved in collecting and analyzing astronomical data, studying planetary systems, investigating cosmic structures, and contributing to scientific publications. I would like to participate in research projects that examine exoplanets, galaxy formation, stellar evolution, or astrophysical phenomena using advanced instruments and computational tools. Being directly involved in research that expands humanity’s understanding of space would be both a privilege and a responsibility.
Beyond research, I also hope to engage in technological development related to space exploration. With rapid advancements in space telescopes, satellite technology, and artificial intelligence used for data analysis, there are increasing opportunities to contribute to innovation within the field. I would like to develop skills that allow me to apply scientific knowledge to practical discoveries and technological improvements. Contributing to meaningful research that can influence future space missions or scientific models is a long-term goal for me.
Additionally, I want my career in astronomy to include mentorship and community impact. Science should be accessible to everyone, especially young students who may not see representation in advanced scientific fields. In ten years, I hope to not only hold a research position but also actively inspire students through outreach programs, public lectures, or academic mentorship. Sharing knowledge and encouraging curiosity among young learners would allow me to give back to my community while promoting interest in STEM education.
Ultimately, my goal is to build expertise in astronomy through higher education, research experience, and continuous professional development. I am committed to dedicating time and effort to mastering the mathematical, technical, and analytical skills required for success in this field. I envision myself contributing to scientific advancement while also serving as a role model for aspiring scientists.

Entering higher education as someone who feels like an outsider to the system comes with both hope and uncertainty. Navigating academic spaces that may not always reflect my background or lived experiences has shaped my perspective on education in powerful ways. While it has sometimes felt unfamiliar or challenging, it has also motivated me to work harder and remain focused on my long-term goals.
As a first- or second-generation immigrant, my educational journey has been influenced by resilience, adaptation, and responsibility. From an early stage, I understood that education represented opportunity — not just for personal advancement, but for my family and community as well. There has often been pressure to succeed because my achievements are connected to the sacrifices made by those who came before me. That awareness pushes me to take my studies seriously and to view education as both a privilege and a responsibility.
At times, entering academic environments has felt intimidating. Differences in cultural expectations, communication styles, and access to guidance can make it difficult to fully understand how systems operate. There were moments when I had to learn procedures, opportunities, and resources on my own or through trial and error. However, those challenges strengthened my independence and problem-solving skills. Instead of allowing uncertainty to discourage me, I used it as motivation to ask questions, seek mentorship, and actively build networks of support.
My experience as someone navigating higher education from an outsider perspective has also shaped my goals. It has made me more determined to succeed academically and professionally so that I can create opportunities for others who may face similar barriers. I want to pursue a career that not only advances my personal ambitions but also allows me to give back — whether through mentorship, community engagement, or advocacy for inclusive educational access.
Looking ahead, I hope to become fully integrated into academic and professional spaces while maintaining pride in my background and identity. I want to bridge gaps between communities and institutions by demonstrating that diversity strengthens learning environments. My goal is not just to complete a degree, but to use my education as a platform to uplift others who may feel like outsiders themselves.
Ultimately, entering higher education as an outsider has not limited me — it has shaped my resilience, expanded my perspective, and fueled my ambition. It reminds me that while systems may feel unfamiliar at first, persistence, support, and determination can turn uncertainty into opportunity.

Leadership is a trait I have always considered as being central to my character. Born as the first of 3 siblings, I have always lived my life often as an exemplar for my younger siblings. I acted as the mediator when misunderstandings arose among them, prepared them for school when my petty-trader parents will leave early before sunrise to the market, and assisted with their schoolwork. Attempts to balance their conflicting interests while trying to reach some form of common ground was often arduous task. However, it was the foundation I needed to hone and nurture my leadership skills.
In my society, being the firstborn and a male child means leadership skills are explicitly demanded of you. It came as no surprise when in High School, I took up other leadership roles with ease and without constraint. In my 2nd year, I was elected a dormitory prefect. I was tasked with ensuring the dormitory was clean and void of disorderliness and making sure no student broke the rules of the school at the dormitory level. During conflicts and misunderstandings, I acted as a mediator to resolve issues amongst the students in my dormitory.
The biggest test of my potential came when I caught wind of a vacancy for Science Club president. I was nervous upon hearing the select committee had received over 150 applications, nonetheless, it didn’t take long for my fears to be allayed as I made the top ten cut. Unfortunately, I was not appointed president, instead, I was inducted into the club as an executive for my outstanding performance and dedication during a probationary period.
The skills I have gained from my upbringing and experience from high school have shaped me into a person driven by initiative and the desire to achieve my set goals. I hope to be an active participant in activities that will propel me to achieve my dream of being a micro-biologist.
Soccer is a sport I have played and loved all my life. Most of my childhood memories are imbibed in games I played with my friends as a little boy. Selecting Ball State University as the chosen university for my Bachelor’s program was not so difficult for me once I learned about the school’s athletic team, notably the soccer team. It will be more than a realized dream if I gain admission to study the program of my dreams and also engage in soccer for extra-curricular reasons.
In line with this, I hope that the Scholarship board grants me entry into this program as well as the inclusive community at Ball State. Drawing inspiration from the school’s motto; I believe that I AM READY TO FLY.

The skills I have gained from my upbringing and experience from high school have shaped me into a person driven by initiative and the desire to achieve my set goals. I hope to be an active participant in activities that will propel me to achieve my dream of being a micro-biologist.
In line with this, I hope that the Scholarship board grants me entry into this program as well as the inclusive community at Ball State. Drawing inspiration from the school’s motto; I believe that I AM READY TO FLY.
Bold Learning and Changing Scholarship
As a young boy climbing the academic ladder, I was always fascinated to be in the science laboratory experiencing the results of scientific experiments. With mountains of infectious tropical diseases confronting the African continent, I decided to progress in science to be part of finding solutions to this phenomenon. As I continued with my high school education I got more interested in infections to the lungs, cystic fibrosis and systemic infections such as sepsis.
Microbiology and Parasitology and finally Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences I got more to research into infectious tropical diseases and their effects on the populace of tropical Africa.
The study of this complex discipline to my conviction will help me to update myself into an in-depth knowledge and technological background to assist me in this field of science.
Current studies into interactions between the immune system and infections will also cover my scope of studies and research.
Embedded within an active and dynamic research culture, you will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills required to enhance my employability and further my career as a microbiologist.
The programme also involves an extended, hands-on laboratory-based research project, supervised by experienced and research-active academic staff.
I will seek to enhance my subject-specific knowledge in the field of biomedical science to enhance my employability.
My principal aim is to experiment in nouveau microbes which help to keep human bodies healthy.
My final vision is to form a consortium of researchers from different fields in microbiology and other scientific fields to research new microbes to serve medical, industrial, environmental, and educational areas in the scientific world.
I hope to also form a Non-governmental organization with the principal aim to coach young male and female scientists into new areas in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as their careers.

In line with this, I hope that the Scholarship board grants me entry into this program as well as the inclusive community at Ball State. Drawing inspiration from the school’s motto; I believe that I AM READY TO FLY.

Growing up in the Family Restaurant Business Scholarship
Of the four main areas in microbiology to wit; Infectious Diseases, Public Health Sciences and Social Medicine, Microbiology and Parasitology and finally Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences I got more to research into infectious tropical diseases and their effects on the populace of tropical Africa.
The study of this complex discipline to my conviction will help me to update myself into an in-depth knowledge and technological background to assist me in this field of science.
Current studies into interactions between the immune system and infections will also cover my scope of studies and research.
The literature and research I have made on the Ball State University particularly the Microbiology program have assured me that I will get more than what I have purposed to be in this field. The large university teaching hospital located within the campus will give me access to laboratories and clinics for my research. Embedded within an active and dynamic research culture, you will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills required to enhance my employability and further my career as a microbiologist.
The programme also involves an extended, hands-on laboratory-based research project, supervised by experienced and research-active academic staff.
These together with the soft financial cost and bursaries to the program have attracted my aim to pursue this program at this university.
I am inquisitive, curious, patient and often like to spend time with my thoughts. This personality trait has been apparent in my scientific journey even through my undergraduate study. I can recount the repeated times I have worked on specific experiments to present a perfect result.
I am also detailed-oriented and very creative. I am also persistent at a fault when my desired results have not been achieved.
