Bio

Hello there! My name is Daneisha Wright, born and raised in the boogie down Bronx...home of Hip-Hop. I am excited to begin my journey in pursuing my Master's in Social Work, focusing on mental health. I would hope that one day I can elevate mental health within the black community because society puts so much emphasis on our strength and ignore our pains. I feel as though as a marginalized group dealing with exterior and interior trauma, we should have the accessibility and affordability to prioritize our mental health, and most of all, remove the barriers in place that push us back. I strongly believe that therapy should not be seen as a luxury; it should be a simple process to improve our overall health and well-being. I know the journey into self-awareness can be challenging, and believe me, I am doing the work into self-reconstruction myself, but I want my future clients to know that you will not be alone in your journey of self-work because I will be right there with you, every single step of the way.

    Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
During my undergraduate year of college, I have had useful methods that aided in my academic success and it is not much, but these same methods has helped elevated my memory. One of them being creating a song using important notes in class because quite often, we can remember lyrics to a good song especially ones we have heard repetitively, so I just applied that to help me remember things for all my exams, finals etc. Another method that works for me is reading something over and over again until it's seared into mind even cramming helps; I know this is not always recommended in academia, but oddly enough, it helps for me to read something hours before and letting it stick. Also, with note taking I find help in highlighting the most important points that may be on the test because I sometimes find it helpful for certain things to be straight to the point without overexplained details that can throw me off.
    Bold Acts of Service Scholarship
I am quite keen on giving back without looking for recognition and not making others feel like they are in debt to me while performing acts of service. I try to navigate the world with kindness for good karma to come my way. In my group of friends and even family, I would lend a shoulder to cry on and take that time to listen to an individual vent about whatever obstacle they are facing because sometimes we all need an outlet. The recent acts of service I have performed was paying a phone bill for my sister because her service was cut off due to an unpaid bill, and if you factor in the pandemic and how it has impacted everyone mentally and financially, having a functional phone is imperative in case of any emergency. Recently, my girlfriend tested positive for covid, and although I couldn't do anything for her in close proximity, I made it a point to still support her by ordering food for her while she isolated herself, she said she had trouble sleeping, and typically melatonin helps her and since she ran out, I've ordered some to be delivered to her house. All in all, I try to show as much emotional/physical support the best I can onto others, because that one act of kindness makes a huge difference.
