When I was just eight years old my mother was shot twice in the back of the head and passed away because of her wounds. At the time I lived with my other and my older, and after that we had to transition and live a new life with our father. My father was not in the picture much so it was very different to just wake up in a new house and be forced to start a new life with a man I barely knew. My loss caused me large emotional pain and kept me in a hole or a while because I always thought that life would never be the same and I would live differently from my peers. My father gave me hope from him turning his life around by going back and finishing college and becoming the best father he could be to help us children be the best we could be. His hope carried on to me and made me believe that that was just one of many bumps in a long road that I had to travel. I believe that everything happens for a reason and this happened to make me mentally tougher at a young age so I can be able to push through all the obstacles I have to face while growing up. My strong suit in school has always and will forever be math. Math just comes easy to me, if someone tells me the simple concept of a mathematical principle I could teach myself how to further expand the usage of that principle and how it can connect to other things in life. I picture math as a game or puzzle and I enjoy solving that puzzle and the challenge it gives. I’ve always struggled in english and literacy concepts. Those things just do not come easy to me and take time to learn and drill into my mind. Also, my attention span for long dry text is very low so it is hard for me to stay focused on the text and to analyze it deeply. I’ve really been involved in sports , specifically basketball, around my school and it is a big part of my life. It helps me stay on task and focus on school so I can play the sport that I love to play. I believe that algebra helped me the most in school because it laid out the basic concepts of many mathematical principles that I’ve used in many other classes. It also made me think a lot when I have to manipulate equations to find the values that I am looking for. Because of my enjoyment of numbers and housing, I’d love to pursue a career in real estate. I would like to attend University of San Diego, California because of their amazing opportunities for future realtors. Their graduates earn 4.3% more than the average realtor and their urban environment offers a great opportunity for social networking while is very valuable in that field of work.
