Throughout my high school years, the sciences have always been my main focus and favorite area of study. In order to “test drive” a career in the sciences, I applied for and was granted an internship at the Marfa Country Clinic where I shadowed professionals in the medical field, which led me to apply to colleges with the intended major of biology. Having been accepted into the College of Charleston’s Honors College, I will major in biology and minor in German, and plan to apply to the Medical University of South Carolina for graduate school. After medical school, I hope to complete my residency at one of MUSC’s hospitals, and complete fellowships in both pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology. After I gain a foothold in the medical field and have established a career, I hope to work on the political side of things, and push for reform in the VA hospital system, advocating for improvements in the treatments and quality of care afforded to veterans. I also plan to allocate any spare time I may have to the Physician Ambassador Program, which grants medical professionals the opportunity to volunteer their time to the delivery of healthcare services to veterans and their families, allowing me to give back to my community and those who dedicated their lives to the safety and protection of others.
