Hey! My name is Dahlya, like the Mexican flower but with a “Y”. As an African-American first-generation college student, I’m studying Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science at Morgan State University. I’m a visionary, & an ambitious risk-taker. I embody courage & free-spiritedness. I’m passionate about my future self & achieving goals that my younger self believed to be too far out of reach.
Growing up in a low-income family in Washington, DC, I learned the value of perseverance at a young age. Despite facing financial challenges, I’m committed to my education & personal growth.
My journey takes a personal turn as a sexual abuse survivor. I have faced some challenging experiences & turned them into a wellspring of strength. I've been on a journey, gradually mending the wounds of my past. Igniting a commitment to advocate for survivors & working towards a society where survivors can heal & thrive.
I envision myself as an entrepreneur, traveling the world, creating organizations to raise social awareness, & sparking intellectual conversations to better society. Enacting real change for children’s rights, POC, LGBTQ+ & women across the world. My future goals have the nation’s best interests at heart.
I will reach my highest potential so that I can become a success story and I believe that all of my hard work will be greatly rewarded someday. I hope to inspire others and show them that nothing is impossible. The sky is not the limit, there’s no limit to what you can achieve in this lifetime.
Thank you for supporting me & others on our journey to success! :)

Hey! My name is Dahlya, like the Mexican flower but with a “Y”. I am a tenacious first-generation African-American woman who carries the weight of survival, resilience, and hope within me. My journey has been marked by tremendous challenges, and I have emerged from the shadows of adversity with an unwavering commitment to creating a better future.
Growing up in a low-income family along with a single mother, I learned to navigate the complexities of life with limited resources. Despite economic hardships, I am currently pursuing a computer engineering degree with a minor in computer science at the illustrious Morgan State University. I am determined to rise above my circumstances and use education as a catalyst for change.
My story takes a deeply personal turn as a sexual abuse survivor. I have confronted the darkest of experiences and transformed them into a powerful source of strength. I have sought counseling and support, gradually healing the scars of the past. My experiences have fueled my passion to be an advocate for survivors, to break the silence, and to create a society where survivors can thrive.
Spirituality has been my guiding light throughout this journey, offering solace and hope when I needed it most. My faith has strengthened my resolve to make a difference in the lives of those who have faced similar traumas and adversity. Also, enact real change for those who may not have the proper advocacy within their community such as children’s rights, people of color, LGBTQ+, and women across the world. My future goals have the nation’s best interests at heart.
As a computer engineering major, one way I hope to make the world a better place is by helping expand the access of mobile internet to everyone around the globe. Making the expansion of global mobile internet connectivity accessible and affordable to women, people of color, and children. The global expansion of mobile internet has the power to address various social and economic disparities. While mobile internet connectivity has made significant strides, the focus should be on ensuring its affordability and accessibility for everyone, particularly in underserved areas. Additionally, addressing digital literacy and privacy concerns is essential to maximize the positive impact of this technology on these communities.
I have had to rely on my determination and resourcefulness, as family support has been limited. The path I am on is a solitary one, but it is driven by an unyielding desire to overcome challenges and make a positive impact on the world.
Receiving this scholarship would be a profound turning point in my life. It is not just about financial assistance; it is about the recognition of my determination to transcend adversity. With this support, I can continue my educational journey, advocate for survivors, and create a better future for myself and those who have faced similar struggles.
I am deeply grateful for your consideration of my application and your support for my aspirations. This scholarship represents more than just an opportunity; it is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the potential for transformation.
Thank you for investing in my dreams and the dreams of countless others.

Joanne Pransky Celebration of Women in Robotics
Title: "The Nexus Conundrum: Robotics in the Near Future"
In the not-so-distant future, the world was at the nexus of a profound transformation, a pivotal moment where the challenges and opportunities of robotics converged. It was a time of great promise and peril, as society grappled with the role of advanced robotics in shaping the destiny of humanity.
Challenges were abundant, and foremost among them was the shifting landscape of employment. Automation and artificial intelligence had reached a level where jobs in manufacturing, service, and even creative sectors were increasingly being performed by robots. This technological shift had led to widespread job displacement and economic inequality. Many found themselves at a crossroads, their skills rendered obsolete by machines. Governments and industries were forced to confront the thorny issue of job replacement and redefine the meaning of work.
The ethical quandaries posed by the integration of robotics were another pressing challenge. As artificial intelligence advanced, the emergence of autonomous, self-learning machines gave rise to questions about control, accountability, and morality. Laws and regulations struggled to keep pace, leading to a host of issues surrounding liability and responsibility for actions taken by robots. The debate raged on: who was responsible when a robot committed an unlawful act, its creator or the machine itself?
A further challenge was the divide between those who embraced the integration of technology into their bodies and minds, and those who vehemently opposed it. A new era of transhumanism had dawned, where neural interfaces and cybernetic enhancements allowed individuals to augment their physical and cognitive abilities. Those who chose to remain "unenhanced" perceived a threat to their individuality and privacy, fearing a future where humans became indistinguishable from machines.
However, the challenges also heralded transformative opportunities. Robots and AI had elevated the standard of living for all. Mundane tasks were delegated to machines, liberating humans to pursue more creative, intellectual, and humanitarian endeavors. Repetitive labor was left in the capable hands of robots, and people were free to explore new horizons of knowledge and culture.
Healthcare experienced a revolution. Nanobots, guided by AI, performed minimally invasive surgeries with unparalleled precision. Telemedicine made healthcare accessible to even the most remote corners of the globe. Disability and disease were no longer the insurmountable barriers they once were. Exoskeletons, bionic limbs, and bioengineered prosthetics enabled individuals to regain full mobility, transforming the lives of many.
The realm of exploration saw groundbreaking advancements. Autonomous rovers and drones had scoured distant planets, unveiling the mysteries of the cosmos. With every discovery, the prospect of human colonization of other worlds drew closer. Robots, those brave explorers of the unknown, paved the way for humanity's expansion into the cosmos.
Education, too, underwent a profound metamorphosis. Personalized AI tutors made high-quality education accessible to all, leveling the playing field and unlocking the potential of young minds. Society became more intellectually curious and creative than ever before, driven by the pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
As humanity grappled with the multifaceted challenges and embraced the transformative opportunities of a world intertwined with robotics, it stood at a crossroads in its history. The ethical dilemmas and technological limitations were formidable, but they did not dampen the inexorable march of progress.
The path forward was uncertain, but the vision was clear. In a future where humanity and machines shared a delicate, evolving symbiosis, society was poised for an era of astonishing growth, enlightenment, and progress. It was a time when the challenges posed by robotics would serve as the crucible from which the opportunities of tomorrow emerged, and humanity would be forever transformed.

Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One technology that is inspiring in its potential to make the world a better place for everyone especially women, people of color, and children is accessible and affordable mobile internet connectivity. The global expansion of mobile internet has the power to address various social and economic disparities.
1. Education: With mobile internet access, children in underserved communities can access educational resources and online learning platforms. This can bridge the educational divide, providing opportunities for quality education regardless of geographic location.
2. Economic Empowerment: Mobile internet enables individuals, especially women and people of color, to access online job opportunities, start small businesses, and participate in the digital economy. It levels the playing field by reducing barriers to entry.
3. Healthcare: Telemedicine and health apps are becoming more accessible through the mobile internet. This technology can help women and children in remote areas receive healthcare services, prenatal care, and medical advice, improving overall health outcomes.
4. Awareness and Advocacy: Mobile internet allows for the dissemination of information, giving a platform for advocacy and raising awareness on critical issues affecting marginalized groups. It empowers people to share their stories and connect with others who share similar experiences.
5. Safety: Mobile apps and services can be used for personal safety, particularly for women and children. Emergency services, location sharing, and community support apps can contribute to a safer environment.
6. Financial Inclusion: Mobile banking and digital payment systems have the potential to bring financial services to those who were previously excluded. This is especially beneficial for women who may have limited access to traditional banking.
While mobile internet connectivity has made significant strides, the focus should be on ensuring its affordability and accessibility for everyone, particularly in underserved areas. Additionally, addressing digital literacy and privacy concerns is essential to maximize the positive impact of this technology on these communities.
