As an active duty military spouse, I've cultivated a life of service, leadership, and continuous learning that extends from my professional career to my volunteer endeavors. My journey, reflected in my diverse work history spanning federal human resources, academia, and operations management, has instilled in me a strategic mindset and a passion for empowering others. Balancing my professional pursuits with personal passions like reading and painting, I thrive on intellectual stimulation and creative expression. Fueled by a desire to contribute to my community, I've actively sought opportunities to serve, from leading my Homeowners' Association and Parent-Teacher Organization to providing tax assistance through the IRS VITA program. Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration with a focus on Strategic Management and a healthcare degree in Nursing, I am eager to leverage my experiences and education to make a meaningful impact and am seeking scholarship opportunities to help me achieve my academic goals.

She Rose in Health Equity
As a minority woman embarking on the rigorous journey to become a registered nurse, I am deeply committed to advancing health equity, particularly within vulnerable and underserved communities. My understanding of disparities in healthcare access and outcomes is not merely academic; it is informed by lived experiences and a profound desire to bridge the gaps that disproportionately affect minority populations. My ambition to specialize in critical care nursing, eventually pursuing a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), is driven by the recognition that these specialized roles offer unique opportunities to advocate for patients, ensure equitable treatment, and contribute to improved health outcomes for all.
Currently, my impact on health equity is centered on community engagement and empowerment. As a volunteer VITA tax preparer, I help low-income families and individuals navigate the complex tax system, ensuring they receive vital refunds and credits that can significantly impact their financial stability and access to healthcare resources. My involvement with the PTO and HOA, while seemingly unrelated to healthcare, provides platforms to address community needs, promote healthy lifestyles through organized events, and advocate for resources that benefit the well-being of all residents. Furthermore, my dedication to the local food bank ensures that individuals and families facing food insecurity have access to nutritious meals, a fundamental component of overall health and well-being.
The uncertainty surrounding my current federal employment, coupled with the demanding responsibilities of being a military spouse and mother to three boys, has reinforced my determination to pursue a career in nursing. This scholarship would be instrumental in alleviating the financial burden of tuition, allowing me to focus on my studies and clinical training without the added stress of financial insecurity. With this support, I can dedicate more time to excelling in my coursework, gaining invaluable hands-on experience, and seeking out leadership opportunities within the nursing program.
Looking ahead, I envision actively volunteering with the Red Cross, providing aid and support to individuals and communities affected by disasters and emergencies. This aligns with my commitment to serving those in need, particularly during times of crisis when access to healthcare is often compromised. As a future ICU nurse and CRNA, I plan to actively advocate for culturally competent care, ensuring that patients from diverse backgrounds receive individualized treatment plans that address their unique needs and preferences. I will also seek opportunities to participate in research initiatives focused on identifying and addressing health disparities, contributing to evidence-based practices that promote equitable healthcare outcomes. Ultimately, my goal is to be a change agent, working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, community organizations, and policymakers to create a more just and equitable healthcare system for all.
