My goal is to build a successful and stable future through a career in welding. To me, welding is more than a trade; it is an opportunity to turn my passion into a lifelong career, become financially independent, and prove that I can overcome obstacles and accomplish my goals. I want to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to become a successful welder while showing other women that they belong in the trades. Although my journey has not been easy, I remain committed to my education and determined to create a better future. My interest in welding began in high school when I took a welding class. I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed the hands-on learning, problem-solving, and precision that welding requires. I worked hard, became one of the top students, and was the only female in the class. Being in a male-dominated environment taught me the importance of confidence, dedication, and believing in my abilities. It also showed me that being a woman should never prevent me from pursuing a career I am passionate about. That experience helped me realize that welding was not only something I enjoyed, but also a career I wanted to pursue. Today, I am continuing to work toward that dream through Lynne’s Welding Training. I am excited to gain more hands-on experience, strengthen my abilities, and learn the skills needed to succeed in the industry. My goals are to improve my technique, understand welding safety and industry standards, earn the qualifications employers seek, and eventually secure a steady welding job with opportunities for growth. Reaching this point has not been easy. I am currently experiencing homelessness while pursuing my education and working toward a better life. Without stable housing, it can be difficult to focus on everyday responsibilities and the demands of training. Balancing these circumstances has required persistence, sacrifice, and determination. Although my situation could have caused me to give up or postpone my education, I continue to attend class ready to learn, work hard, and make the most of every opportunity. My circumstances do not define my potential, and I refuse to let them determine my future. Every day I attend school is another step toward the life I am working to build. I want to support myself, have a stable place to call home, and feel proud of what I accomplish. Welding provides a practical path toward independence and long-term stability. Receiving this scholarship would make a meaningful difference in my journey. Pursuing education while experiencing homelessness creates a significant financial burden. Scholarship assistance would help cover education-related expenses, welding equipment, protective gear, supplies, transportation, and other training costs. With this support, I could focus more fully on developing the skills necessary to succeed instead of worrying about how I will afford the resources I need. Ultimately, I aspire to become a skilled, dependable, and respected welder who takes pride in her work. I hope my journey demonstrates that determination and hard work can help someone overcome difficult circumstances, and I want to encourage other women to consider careers in the trades. This scholarship would be more than financial assistance; it would be an investment in my education, career, and future. Despite the challenges I face, I remain committed to learning, improving, and working toward my goals. I am determined to build a future defined not by my hardships, but by my perseverance and accomplishments.

Hands-on learning is important to me because it allows me to fully understand and apply what I am being taught. I learn best by doing—by working with my hands, solving real problems, and seeing the direct results of my effort. Sitting in a classroom and only hearing information is not as effective for me as physically practicing a skill. Hands-on learning keeps me engaged, builds my confidence, and helps me develop real-world abilities that I know I will carry with me into my career. That is one of the main reasons I am drawn to welding. It is a field where skill is built through practice, focus, and experience, not just theory. My experience throughout high school has played a major role in shaping both my personal and professional goals. I took a welding class where I quickly found both passion and purpose. In that class, I was the only female and became one of the top students. That experience pushed me to challenge expectations and prove to myself that I belong in this field. Instead of feeling discouraged being in a male-dominated environment, I felt motivated. My success in that class, along with the encouragement I received, gave me the confidence to seriously pursue welding as a career. In addition, being involved in FFA from 8th through 11th grade helped me grow outside of a traditional classroom setting. Through competitions, public speaking, and attending state conferences, I developed confidence, leadership skills, and a strong work ethic. I learned how to communicate effectively, manage my time, and push myself to improve. These experiences showed me that I am capable of succeeding in challenging environments and that I thrive when I am actively involved in what I am learning. High school helped me realize that I want a career that is hands-on, practical, and meaningful. I am not interested in a path where I feel disconnected from my work. I want to build something real—something that requires effort, skill, and attention to detail. Welding aligns perfectly with those goals. It offers the opportunity to continuously learn, improve, and take pride in the work I produce. In the future, I plan to use my skills to make a positive impact in my community by contributing to the infrastructure and projects that people rely on every day. Welders play an essential role in building and maintaining structures such as bridges, buildings, and equipment. These are critical to keeping communities safe and functioning. Knowing that my work could directly support others gives me a strong sense of purpose. I also hope to inspire others, especially young women who may feel discouraged from entering male-dominated fields. By pursuing welding and succeeding in it, I want to show that skill, determination, and hard work matter more than stereotypes. I want to help break barriers and encourage others to follow paths they are passionate about, even if those paths are not traditional. Overall, hands-on learning has shaped the way I approach my education and future. It has guided me toward a career in welding and given me the confidence to pursue a path that is both challenging and rewarding. With the skills I gain, I am determined to build not only a successful career but also a lasting, positive impact within my community.

Recovery, to me, means taking control of life and choosing a better path than the one I was on. My struggles with mental health started when I was eleven years old after moving across the country. The sudden change left me dealing with severe anxiety and depression, and at such a young age I did not know how to cope with those feelings. Instead of asking for help, I turned to substances. From ages twelve to seventeen I used nicotine and marijuana to numb my emotions, and from sixteen to eighteen I also relied on alcohol. The moment that truly changed my life was losing my best friend in a drinking and driving accident. That loss forced me to look at my own habits and the direction my life was heading. I realized I did not want to keep living that way or risk losing more than I already had. In August of 2025, I made the decision to get sober and begin rebuilding my life. Recovery for me means growth, accountability, and making choices that support a healthier future. It means learning to face my anxiety and depression without relying on substances and finding healthier ways to cope. It also means setting goals and working toward them, which is why I am pursuing an education in welding. Recovery means continuing to move forward. By maintaining supportive relationships, healthy routines, and focusing on my education and career, I am building a life that reflects the person I want to be.

I have struggled with depression and severe anxiety since I was eleven years old, when my life changed almost overnight. Moving across the country at that age meant leaving behind everything familiar—friends, routines, and the sense of stability I had always known. I felt isolated and overwhelmed, but I did not yet have the tools or language to explain what I was experiencing. Instead of asking for help, I internalized everything. What started as homesickness gradually became persistent anxiety and deep depressive episodes that followed me through adolescence. By the time I was twelve, I began coping in unhealthy ways. I turned to nicotine and marijuana as a way to quiet my thoughts and temporarily escape the constant feeling of unease. From sixteen to eighteen, alcohol became another outlet. At the time, it felt like relief. Substances dulled the anxiety, numbed the sadness, and made social situations easier. But in reality, they were only masking the problem while slowly creating new ones. My mental health did not improve—it worsened. I became dependent on outside substances to regulate emotions I had never learned to process in a healthy way. The turning point in my life came when my best friend died in a drinking and driving accident. Losing someone I loved to something I was also using to cope forced me to confront my own choices. It was a devastating wake-up call. I realized that the path I was on could easily end in tragedy. Grief hit me hard, but instead of numbing it, I finally allowed myself to feel it. That loss became the catalyst for change. In August of 2025, I made the decision to get sober. It was not easy. Removing the substances meant facing my anxiety and depression without a shield. There were uncomfortable days and difficult moments, but for the first time, I was choosing long-term healing over temporary relief. Sobriety has given me clarity. I have learned healthier coping strategies, including exercise, journaling, and reaching out for support when I need it. I have also worked on building routines that create structure and stability in my life. Slowly, I began to rebuild not just my habits, but my identity. With sobriety came a renewed sense of purpose. I realized I wanted more for myself than survival. I wanted a future I could be proud of. That is when I began pursuing welding as a career path. Welding appeals to me because it is hands-on, disciplined, and requires focus and precision. It demands accountability and skill—qualities I have worked hard to develop in my personal life. The trade offers stability and opportunity, and I am motivated to build a career that reflects the strength and resilience I have developed through recovery. My educational goal is to complete formal welding training and earn certifications that will allow me to enter the workforce with confidence and competence. I want to continue growing in the trade, eventually mastering specialized techniques and advancing within the field. More importantly, I want to build a life defined by responsibility, independence, and perseverance. Continuing to manage my recovery is a priority. I understand that sobriety is not a one-time decision but an ongoing commitment. My plan includes maintaining healthy routines, surrounding myself with supportive people, and staying mindful of my mental health. I will continue using constructive coping strategies and seeking professional guidance if needed. I have learned that asking for help is not weakness—it is strength. My experiences with mental health and substance abuse have shaped me, but they do not define me. What defines me now is my commitment to growth, sobriety, and building a meaningful future. I have faced loss, struggled with anxiety and depression, and made mistakes, but I have also chosen to rise from them. I am determined to continue forward—stronger, focused, and dedicated to creating a better life for myself.

Suicide awareness is deeply personal to me because of a loss that changed my life at a young age. In sixth grade, a close friend I had grown up with took his own life after enduring prolonged bullying. We were just kids. At that age, you do not fully understand the weight of mental health struggles, and you never imagine that someone your age could feel so overwhelmed that they see no way out. Losing him opened my eyes to how real and serious those struggles are, and it left me with a lasting commitment to make sure others know they are not alone. After his death, I became more aware of how people treat one another and how deeply words can hurt. Bullying is often dismissed as something children will “grow out of,” but I have seen firsthand the damage it can cause. Since then, I have made it a priority to notice classmates or peers who seem isolated or targeted. I try to include others, check in when someone seems off, and speak up when I see unfair treatment. Even small actions—sitting with someone who is alone, sending a message to ask if they are okay, or standing up against hurtful comments—can make a meaningful difference. I have also supported suicide awareness by encouraging open conversations about mental health. When topics like depression, anxiety, or bullying arise, I lean into those discussions rather than avoiding them. I believe one of the biggest barriers people face is the fear of judgment. By listening without criticism and responding with compassion, I hope to create a safe space where others feel comfortable sharing what they are going through. Losing my friend left me wishing I had noticed more or said something that might have helped. That feeling motivates me to be more present and intentional in supporting others. To me, suicide awareness is about connection—reminding people that their lives have value and that asking for help is a sign of strength. If sharing my story encourages even one person to reach out or hold on a little longer, then honoring my friend’s memory is worth it.

I plan to study welding as my chosen skilled trade. Welding stands out to me because it is practical, hands-on, and essential in nearly every industry. From bridges and buildings to pipelines and manufacturing equipment, welders play a direct role in building and maintaining the structures that keep society running. I am drawn to the idea of working with my hands, mastering technical skills, and creating something strong and lasting. Welding is not just a job; it is a craft that requires precision, patience, and pride in your work. That combination of skill and purpose is what motivates me to pursue it. I have chosen welding because it offers both stability and opportunity. Skilled trades are in high demand, and welders are needed in construction, manufacturing, shipbuilding, and many other fields. Unlike some career paths that require many years of schooling before entering the workforce, welding allows me to gain specialized training and begin earning sooner. I value the ability to build a career through hard work and skill development. I am open to learning different types of welding, whether structural, pipe, or fabrication, because I want to be versatile and prepared for any opportunity. Over time, I hope to earn certifications, gain experience, and possibly advance into leadership roles or even start my own business. I plan a career in welding because it aligns with my strengths and work ethic. I enjoy problem-solving and paying attention to detail, which are both essential in welding. A strong weld requires focus, steady hands, and a commitment to safety and quality. I am willing to put in the time and effort to practice and improve. Welding also requires physical and mental discipline, and I am prepared for that challenge. I understand that success in the skilled trades comes from reliability, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning. These are qualities I actively work to develop in myself. I believe I will be successful in this trade because I am determined and resilient. When I set a goal, I commit to it. Welding will require training, certifications, and real-world experience, and I am ready to take each step seriously. I am not afraid of hard work, long hours, or starting at an entry-level position to gain experience. I understand that mastery takes time. My focus is not just on getting a job, but on becoming highly skilled and dependable. Employers value workers who show up on time, follow safety standards, and take pride in their work, and I intend to be that kind of professional. In general, a successful life to me means independence, stability, and the ability to support myself and my family. Success is not only about income; it is about building something meaningful and knowing that your work has value. A successful life includes financial security, continuous growth, and the satisfaction of achieving personal goals. It also means being responsible, dependable, and respected for your skills and character. I will be successful because I am motivated to create a better future for myself. Welding offers a clear and realistic path toward that future. Through dedication, training, and perseverance, I am confident that I can build a strong career and a stable life. By committing fully to my chosen trade, I will turn my goals into achievements and define success on my own terms.

My career objective is to become a professional welder. I am open to any type of welding, whether it is structural, pipe, industrial, fabrication, or underwater welding, because my primary goal is to develop strong technical skills and build a stable, long-term career in the skilled trades. Welding interests me because it combines hands-on work, precision, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of building something that lasts. I want a career where I can see the direct results of my hard work, continue learning new techniques, and contribute to projects that make a real impact. The welding field offers strong job stability and growth opportunities. Skilled trades are always in demand, especially in construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure. I am motivated to enter a field where dedication and skill development are rewarded. My plan is to complete formal welding training, earn industry certifications, and gain experience through apprenticeships or entry-level positions. Over time, I hope to increase my qualifications, specialize if needed, and possibly advance into supervisory roles or even start my own business. Financial assistance is critical for me to pursue this goal. My mother has chosen not to complete the required FAFSA information, and she has told me I need to figure out my educational funding on my own. As a result, I do not currently have access to the federal financial aid that many students rely on. This situation has created a significant barrier to continuing my education, as I do not have the personal financial resources to fully cover tuition, equipment, tools, protective gear, transportation, and other associated costs. Because welding programs require specialized materials and hands-on training, expenses can add up quickly. Without assistance, I would need to work extensive hours to afford school, which could delay my training or affect my academic performance. Receiving financial support would allow me to focus on completing my certification efficiently and successfully. It would also reduce the stress and uncertainty surrounding how I will pay for my education. I am determined to build a stable and independent future for myself through hard work and persistence. Welding offers me a practical, reliable path toward financial independence and long-term career growth. With the right training and financial support, I am confident that I can complete my program, enter the workforce prepared, and contribute meaningfully to the skilled trades industry. Financial assistance would not only support my education but also invest in my ability to become a self-sufficient and productive member of the workforce.

When I think about my future, I don't see myself behind a desk. I picture sparks flying and the satisfaction that comes from building structures strong enough to last for decades. Welding is more than just a job to me, it is a skill, craft, and a career that allows me contribute to the world in a tangible way. I am drawn to welding because it combines technical knowledge with hands on work. It requires focus, patience, and precision. Every weld must be intentional. A steady hand and attention to detail can be a big difference. Welding is not just something you can fake or rush, it demands discipline and pride in your work. Those are qualities I value and continuously strive to strengthen in myself. Another reason I see a future in welding is the opportunity for growth. Welding is used in countless industries, construction, manufacturing, automotive, shipbuilding, and even aerospace. This is versatility means there is always room to learn new techniques, earn certifications, and advance. I am excited by the idea that my career can evolve as I gain experience. Whether I specialize in structural welding, pipe welding, or eventually start my own business, the possibilities are real and achievable with hard work. Welding also offers stability and strong earning potential. Skilled trades are in high demand, and welders play a critical role in building and maintaining infrastructure. Buildings, bridges, pipelines, and machinery all rely on welders. Knowing that my work would directly support communities gives me a sense of purpose. I want a career where I can see the results of my effort and know that I helped create something essential. Beyond the technical aspects, welding represents independence to me. It is a skill that cannot be easily outsourced or replaced. Once mastered, it becomes something you carry with you for life. That sense of self reliance is more important to me. I want to build a future where I can support myself and my family through hard work and dedication. Receiving this scholarship would help me take the next step toward my future. Training and certification programs require both time and financial commitment. With support, I can focus fully on developing my skills and gaining the experience necessary to succeed in this field. I am committed to putting in the effort, learning from experienced professionals, and representing the welding trade the pride. I see welding not just a career choice, but as a foundation for my future. It challenges me, motivates me, and aligns with the kind of life I want to build. One defined by skill, integrity, and meaningful work. With determination and the right opportunities, I am confident that welding will allow me to turn my goals into reality.
