Bio

Hi there, I am Courtney Zoquier, a driven and passionate first-generation college student at UMass Boston, majoring in Management with a concentration in Marketing. As a student, I am not only motivated by my goal to become the first member of my family to earn a college degree, but I am also deeply interested in the world of marketing. I am fascinated by the art and science of creating compelling messages and connecting with audiences, and I am eager to explore this field further and make a meaningful impact in the industry. My drive and ambition come from a place of gratitude. My parents made the courageous decision to leave the Dominican Republic and create a better life for my siblings and me. Their sacrifices have inspired me to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way and to give back to my family and community in any way I can. I am forever grateful for their unwavering support and will always dedicate my successes to both myself and them.

    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
Taylor Swift's 1989 album is a masterpiece that showcases her growth as an artist. It's hard to choose a favorite song from such a collection of gems, but if I had to pick one, it would be "Blank Space." "Blank Space" is an anthem for anyone who's been called crazy or a "stage-five clinger" for simply wanting to be loved. In the song, Taylor Swift takes the media's portrayal of her as a serial dater and turns it on its head. She embraces the rumors and flips the narrative, proclaiming herself as a "nightmare dressed like a daydream." The song's lyrics are clever and self-aware. Swift uses sarcasm and wit to mock the media's portrayal of her, singing, "Got a long list of ex-lovers, they'll tell you I'm insane. But I've got a blank space, baby, and I'll write your name." It's a tongue-in-cheek reference to the tabloid rumors that she's dated countless famous men, but also a way of saying that she's not going to let anyone else define her. The chorus of "Blank Space" is undeniably catchy. It's a perfect example of Swift's ability to craft a hook that sticks in your head for days. The melody is infectious, and the way she sings "cause darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream" is pure pop perfection. But what makes "Blank Space" truly great is the way it subverts expectations. It's a song about a woman who's been burned by love, but instead of wallowing in self-pity, she's taking control of the narrative. She's saying, "Yes, I've had my heart broken, but I'm not going to let that stop me from loving again." The music video for "Blank Space" is also a masterpiece in its own right. It's a tongue-in-cheek parody of Swift's image as a crazed, love-obsessed diva. The video shows her destroying a lover's car, cutting up his clothes, and generally wreaking havoc. It's a nod to the ridiculous way the media portrays women in relationships and a way of saying that women aren't just objects to be controlled and manipulated. In conclusion, "Blank Space" is my favorite song from Taylor Swift's 1989 album because it's a perfect combination of catchy pop music and clever, self-aware lyrics. It's a song about taking control of your own narrative and not letting anyone else define you. And it's a reminder that even when the world sees you as crazy or a "stage-five clinger," you can always embrace your inner nightmare and be a daydream.
