Wicked Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of Wicked because it is more than just a musical is a story about resilience, acceptance, and seeing the world through different perspectives. Watching it with my kids has become a special tradition for us, one that brings joy and connection. We love the music, the vibrant characters, and the way the story challenges us to think about good and evil in more complex ways. Sharing those moments reminds me that storytelling can be both entertaining and deeply meaningful. The witch also showcases how the sweetest people are oppressed because they look different.
What makes Wicked especially powerful for me is its diversity. The musical celebrates differences, showing that being “different” is not something to hide but something that can be a source of strength. As someone who values inclusion and representation, I appreciate how Wicked encourages audiences to embrace individuality and challenge stereotypes. It teaches my children that compassion and understanding matter more than appearances or labels.
Ultimately, Wicked inspires me because it reflects the kind of world I want to help build, one where people are celebrated for who they are, where kindness triumphs over judgment, and where resilience leads to transformation. That message, shared with my kids, makes Wicked unforgettable.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experiences with mental health have shaped every part of who I am today. Growing up in poverty, surrounded by domestic violence and abuse, I developed PTSD at a young age. For years, I struggled with feelings of worthlessness and fear, believing that I was unwanted because of what I had endured. Yet, through faith and resilience, I began to see my pain not as a limitation but as a source of purpose.
These challenges inspired my goal of becoming a trauma‑informed therapist. I know firsthand how deeply abuse and mental health struggles can affect a child’s development, and I want to use my education in psychology to provide care that is compassionate, culturally aware, and rooted in advocacy. My mental health journey has given me empathy that cannot be taught in a classroom; it allows me to connect with survivors in ways that honor their experiences and validate their struggles.
My relationships have also been shaped by this journey. I value honesty, patience, and compassion, and I strive to create safe spaces for my family, peers, and the women and children I serve at the shelter.
Ultimately, my mental health experiences have expanded my understanding of the world: healing is possible, resilience is powerful, and even a mustard seed of faith can carry us through.
Therapist Impact Fund: NextGen Scholarship
My lived experiences have profoundly shaped my decision to pursue a career in mental health. Growing up in poverty with a single mother and five siblings, I witnessed and endured domestic violence, substance abuse, and emotional trauma. My earliest memories include nights spent at police stations for safety and the pain of being harmed by those who should have protected me. At nine years old, I survived sexual assault, an experience that could have silenced me forever. Instead, it became the moment I turned to faith, finding strength in God to endure and heal. These experiences instilled in me a deep empathy for children and families who suffer in silence. They drive my commitment to become a trauma‑informed therapist who not only provides clinical care but also offers compassion, advocacy, and hope. I want to be the kind of provider who listens without judgment, validates survivors’ pain, and helps them reclaim their worth.
If I could make one significant change to today’s mental healthcare system, it would be to expand access to affordable, culturally competent care for marginalized communities. Too often, survivors of abuse and families living in poverty face barriers such as cost, stigma, and lack of representation among providers. My own family struggled to access support, and I know firsthand how damaging that gap can be. By increasing funding for community‑based programs, training diverse providers, and integrating mental health services into schools and shelters, we could ensure that care reaches those who need it most. Equity in mental health means recognizing that trauma does not discriminate, but access to healing often does.
Teletherapy has emerged as a powerful tool to bridge some of these gaps. Its greatest benefits include convenience, reduced stigma, and the ability to reach clients in rural or underserved areas. For survivors balancing work, family, and healing, teletherapy can be life‑changing. However, challenges remain: limited internet access, lack of privacy in unsafe households, and cultural disconnects between providers and clients. To innovate further, we must invest in secure platforms that protect confidentiality, expand multilingual and culturally tailored services, and provide technology assistance for families without reliable devices. Teletherapy should not be a privilege but a standard option accessible to all.
My journey from a childhood of abuse to becoming a first‑generation graduate student in psychology reflects the power of faith and resilience. I am determined to use my experiences to transform pain into purpose, ensuring that every survivor knows healing is possible and that even a mustard seed of faith can carry them through.

I'm on the roof yelling but no one hears me I've been here for a while now.

The three cultures I strongly Identify with is being a Louisiana Creole, African
American and a Christian. The most significant in my life is being a Louisiana
Creole. Louisiana Creole come in all shapes now a long time ago they would
call very fair light skin African American Creole. In New Orleans they had high
Society clubs and made dark-skinned because feel less than. Growing up
I did not understand why I look the way I do. I started getting the question on
my race. I would get called me white girl and people look at me out of dislike.
I really didn’t know anything but that I was black until was treated differently.
growing up I was told I’m black but even though I when to Creole and cajun
Festivals. I didn’t know what I was because nobody told me.
I never really realized I was different I was bullied and abused because
of my light skin and eyes. I never fit in. I was the pretty I people
around wanted to be but I didn’t know. It took educating myself on the
History of the Creoles in Louisiana to help understand. It doesn’t make it less
difficult to feel not accepted but at least now I know what I am. And I can
defend me when people talk about the color of my skin. I’m so introverted
because of what I have been through I stay at the house a lot. One day I hope
To leave so I can feel free and accepted. African American is another because
growing up that was all I knew I was. I never fit in. In Louisiana I still get to look at
Up and down. I get pre-judged about being pretty. I have always been shy so it
making things very difficult for me. I’ve been through so much trauma
And just wish I could feel accepted. I know because society a lot of women
here feel that things would be easier if they were lighter. It has not been for me.
On the Other hand, being a Christian has helped me get through the hurt and
painI have been through not being accepted. I would not be on this earth if it
wasn’t for faith. With the abuse, betrayal, and racial abuse I would not be strong
Enough Without my savior. God gives me strength and he teaches people
It’s the person’s sin and spirit that causes them to do hurtful things.
He teaches me that I am wonderfully made in his eyes. The humanities

Computers inspire me because of the life-changing effect it has on us as a society. Computers
help everyone in their everyday life. For instance, paying your monthly bills is one. Also education
as a mother of three that also homeschools, I wouldn't be able to without computers. Computers
are a life saver it helps people to work from home and also educate themselves.Computers help
people to earn a living. Covid has made things more difficult for us. We are able to get virtual
appointment to our doctor's people of computers. With computers, we are able to go and retrieve
data that can alternate people's lives in a major way. From looking at statistics research to demographic
research holds the key to society. With data people make changes to healthcare and
policies. Without computers, we would not be able to go into databases to retrieve and analyze this data.
Which leads me to research. Without computers, we would not be able to conduct research as we do. Computers hold so much data that can save your life instantly. Like if you have physical issues you look up online then be able to get an idea of what's going on in your body. That can lead to you or someone calling an ambulance or doctor. As well as using maneuvers to save a life. I feel without computers we wouldn't be able to make in life as we do. Covid is on the rise and remote work is the way to go. Without computers, this would be impossible for most jobs. In conclusion, computers save lives daily and make it possible to have to solve life problems.
