Christina Taylese Singh Memorial Scholarship
I am a sophomore at the University of South Carolina Aiken and I major in Exercise Science. I hope to attend medical school to receive my doctorate in Pediatric Physical Therapy. My GPA is 3.0, and I have completed 50 credits at my current University. I want to be a part of the process of helping others become healthy and see their progress from start to finish. I love working with children and that's why I want to be in the Pediatric field. Being an athlete my entire life I have been in Physical Therapy many times, and my goal is to give back to the community that kept me healthy. I currently work at Pivot Physical Therapy as a rehab aide. I perform duties like assisting the patients with exercises, documenting their progress, providing heat and ice for the patients, administrative duties, housekeeping, scheduling appointments, and taking phone calls. I enjoy this job because the patients come regularly and I grow relationships with each of them, and watching their progress over time brings me joy. I have always been the type of person that loves helping others, and the medical field suits me best. I have volunteered at many food and clothing drives at local churches, as well as many sports camps for the youth. I received my CNA in high school, and I have kept up to date with my CPR/First aid. Many of my friends and family will come to me with questions about injuries, or aches and pain. This brings me joy that my peers have confidence that I can help them. I have played softball for 10 years, and I received a collegiate scholarship to play at my University. Recently I decided I no longer wanted to play anymore due to mental health issues and wanted to focus on my education. Personally, I have big goals in my life, and it's important that I put 100% effort into my studies. Achieving my goals is very important to me, and with this scholarship, I can assure I will be able to afford to receive my degree. As a result of quitting softball, I lost my athletic scholarship as well as in-state tuition. Being provided a scholarship so I can afford the costs of school is vital for me, and without financial help, it will be very difficult for me to get my degree. I feel I am a good candidate for this scholarship because I want to follow in the similar footsteps of Christina, and I admire her for the achievements she had.
