    Women in STEM Scholarship
Helping others and learning about how humans function has always been a big part of my life and education. I love doing things for others to make them safe, happy, and healthy, especially for children. This is why I am passionate about an education in STEM, so that I can become a pediatrician and do as much as possible for the wellbeing of the future generations, learn all about how the human body and mind work, and be someone young girls can look up to. Being the oldest of three children, I have much experience in taking care of those younger than me. I even used the skills and knowledge I acquired to pick up a few babysitting gigs. I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare, but caring for and teaching these children aided me in deciding to specialize in pediatrics and children who have disabilities. My youngest brother has Down syndrome, so this influenced me to work with kids who have special needs. Overall, working with kids is my true passion because the children of this world deserve true love and care. The human body and mind are extremely interesting to me. I love learning about how our brains function within social settings and how it reacts to certain life events. This is why I decided to take high school and college courses that have to do with learning about human anatomy and operations. Some of here classes include Psychology, Sociology, Biology, and Health Science. Taking classes like this have taught me a lot and further warranted me to go into the medical and science field. STEM is probably the most important area of study, and as a woman, I believe there needs to be more representation for girls like me who wish to pursue an education and career in the field. Even though women have made a significant contribution to STEM, we are still underrepresented and not talked about among communities. I hope to become successful enough to be someone a little girl can admire and feel inspired by. The women of the world should be encouraged to explore career paths in STEM and be able to feel seen as important contributors to this education and career field. Many things make me passionate about an education in STEM. Caring for those in need, learning about bodily functions, and being someone young girls can look up to are just the main reasons for pursuing an education in this field. I truly love to learn and use my knowledge for the betterment of those around me, and I would love to be a role-model for little girls who also wish to pursue an education and career in the STEM field.
Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care
My whole life has been spent caring for others. Being an older sister of two boys, one with Down syndrome, I was put in the caregiver role at a young age. My father is a single parent and has needed a lot of help with household responsibilities, like chores, taking care of the kids, and paying bills. Even though it can be draining to complete school assignments and activities, work at my part-time job, and be there for my family it is extremely rewarding and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. This is why I am working towards becoming a successful pediatrician who gives money back to the community and helps families with financial needs. I want to give children who have disadvantages a better opportunity at life so that they can enjoy it to the fullest. As a senior in high school, I have been given the opportunity to participate in a CNA class, hold officer positions in multiple clubs (HOSA-Future Health Professionals and National Honor Society), and participate in many school and club events. I have been a part of HOSA for about four years and have gone to all of the leadership conferences within that time. With this club, members hold community service projects like blood drives and helping at local events, compete in health related events with other members at conferences, and learn how to be a student leader. I really enjoy being a part of this club because it has taught me how to speak publicly and hold a leadership role. It has also further influenced me to go into the healthcare field and help those around me for a living. As the 2025-2026 HOSA President for my school’s chapter, I can say that being in this club has changed my life for the better and I hope to provide those younger than me with the same life-changing experience. When I complete my education, I will work hard to obtain a well-paying job as a pediatrician so that I can give back to my community and other communities around the world. No child should know the struggles of not being able to afford basic necessities or have to provide financial support for their family. It is the job of the providers to give their children what they need to live, and if the provider is not able to contribute to the child’s well-being then they should also receive support. I want to be able to contribute to the security and health of struggling families, so with my future earnings, I plan on donating to organizations that assist with these types of situations. I may even create my own organization that gives to students and parents who need support. Ultimately, those who are able should support those who are not, and that is what I will do. My true passion in life is to provide care and support for those in need. With my education and skills, I will use my knowledge to give quality and compassionate care to my future patients and others who need help with having their basic necessities met. Using the resources that I will acquire, I will give money and volunteer time to organizations that assist families with financial needs, along with being the best healthcare professional that I can be.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Jack Terry’s story is one about overcoming hardships the world has given, even though it seems impossible to. This is inspiring to me because it gives me hope for what the future holds, telling me that I can succeed and persevere though tough times. Adversity that I have faced in my life is poverty and familial problems. Growing up with financial insecurity in a single parent household has a lasting impact on one’s life, and I wouldn’t wish that circumstance on anyone. With the knowledge and experience I gain from my studies, I will become successful in my career and give back the money I earn to low-income families so that the children of the future will never know financial hardships. Poverty has played a big part in my life for as long as I can remember. My family has always had financial support from the government and local organizations, like with food, household supplies, and bills. Unfortunately, this assistance can only go so far. My father is an unemployed single father of three and my mother is an incarcerated drug addict, so I, being the only one with a job, am our family’s only other source of income. I work a part-time job at a restaurant after school and on weekends along with being involved in school clubs and organizations. Originally, I obtained my job in order to save for college, participate in school events, and have spending money. Now, my savings and most of my paychecks go towards providing for my household by paying bills (i.e. mortgage, car payments). My dad is always apologizing for having to use my earnings, but I understand that this is what I have to do in order for our family to have a roof over our heads. Sometimes, I feel sad and overwhelmed about having so many responsibilities, but knowing that I am helping my family makes me feel better. When I complete my education, I will work hard to obtain a well-paying job as a pediatrician so that I can give back to my community and other communities around the world. No child should know the struggles of not being able to afford basic necessities or have to provide financial support for their family. I may even create my own organization that gives to students and parents who need support. Ultimately, those who are able should support those who are not, and that is what I will do. It seems that those who face hardships are the most willing to help those coming from similar backgrounds. I’d say that is what Mr. Terry and I have in common; we both have faced extremely tough times, but we pushed through to success and seek out ways to help others who are also struggling. I am grateful for people like Jack Terry in the world, and I hope to become like him and bring hope to the younger generations. I already love helping others any way that I can with everyday tasks, but I’d say giving financial assistance is the most important way of providing support.

Sometimes, I feel sad and overwhelmed about having so many responsibilities, but knowing that I am helping my family makes me feel better. In my adult life, I plan on managing my finances in a smart way by putting a certain amount into savings and an emergency fund, paying my bills on time every month, and only spending a small amount of money on my wants for fun or cool things. I am currently in an Economics and Personal Finance class which has helped me plan for my future financial plans. I know the reason behind my family’s financial struggle, and I will not follow down that path. With my mother being an addict, she stole an unmeasurable amount of money from my father along with our personal belongings. My dad had to use all of his retirement savings, our college money, and all other emergency money he had in order to support our family. He has given me advice on how to manage my future money and has said to put away as much as possible into my savings. In my career, I hope to make a substantial amount of money in order to support myself and my family without having to worry about being able to afford food or bills. I also hope to be able to participate in activities like traveling and going out with friends. I never want to have to worry about being able to afford anything in my adult life like I had to growing up. Struggling with money has a lasting impact on a person, but I almost never hear it talked about. My ultimate goal in life is to not worry about paying for things and helping others who are unable to afford their basic needs.

I am passionate about many things in life, but art and caring for others stand out the most. I have always loved everything to do with creativity, including painting, writing, and music. When I was little, I would fill notebooks with clothing designs, portraits of those around me, and even of things in nature. Recently, I have done a self-portrait using a picture I took in Barcelona, Spain as a reference. Helping and caring for those around me is something I enjoy as well. As the oldest child in my family, I have been responsible for my younger brothers since I was old enough to help. Now, I seek out ways I can take care of those around me, including my classmates, coworkers, and even the children I babysit. I am currently in a class called Nursing Fundamentals and will be working with residents in nursing homes, so I will be putting my skills to work. Eventually, I hope to become a pediatrician who works with children who have special needs. My youngest brother has Down syndrome so I would say he inspired me to go into that line of work. Really, I think everyone deserves quality care, especially children. I want to be the type of person children can look up to and feel safe around and that is what I will become.  I have demonstrated perseverance throughout my life by not giving up when times are tough. I grew up in a toxic household, with my parents constantly fighting, my mother being a drug addict, and my father struggling to provide for his children. Gladly, my parents are no longer together, but we are still extremely financially unstable. My dad tries his best to provide for us, but being without an income and having many different expenses is difficult. I have been helping pay bills and buy necessary items for a while now. I have a part-time job that I originally got to help save for college. Unfortunately, most of my savings and current earnings are going towards my house. I am grateful that I am able to help provide for my family and keep a roof over our heads, but it is stressful knowing that I will have a hard time paying for school. Even though this is happening, I know that I will be able to achieve my dreams and eventually give my family a better life. I am hopeful for the future and am confident that everything will work out in the end. I plan on positively impacting the world with my studies by becoming a pediatrician and helping children in need. I want to bring hope to kids who are sick and struggling and to their loved ones. No child deserves pain or hardships, so I want to do everything in my power to make sure the next generations get to grow up happy and healthy. Once I have built a successful career, I plan on adopting and fostering children who need a safe home to live in. When I say this, people usually ask, “Why not just have kids of your own?” Well, I want to care for the adolescents who are already alive and on this Earth because they didn’t choose to be here or in the situation they are in. For the children I am not able to directly take care of, I plan on donating certain amounts of my income to organizations that help provide for families in need. My ultimate goal is to have a positive impact on as many people as possible and help out where I can.
