Speed League Swimming: Rising Stars Scholarship
Swimming has shaped nearly every part of who I am. It taught me discipline before I learned to drive, resilience before I entered college, and leadership before I held any official title. As a four-year varsity swimmer, team captain, swim instructor, coach, and now a student leader at UCLA, I have experienced swimming from nearly every angle. Those experiences have convinced me of one thing: elite swimmers deserve more opportunities than the current system provides. That is why I believe I am the kind of athlete Speed League Swimming was built for.
My story in swimming has never been defined solely by times, rankings, or medals. It has been defined by persistence. Throughout my athletic journey, I balanced competitive swimming with rigorous academics, leadership positions, work responsibilities, and community service. While completing college coursework during high school, serving as Student Government Treasurer, leading the WAVES Club as President, and maintaining a 4.0 unweighted GPA, I continued showing up to practice every day. Swimming taught me how to manage pressure, commit to long-term goals, and perform when expectations were high.
What shaped me most was realizing that success in swimming often depends on qualities that never appear on a results sheet. Being named Varsity Team Captain taught me that leadership means showing up for teammates when they are struggling, not just when they are winning. Working as a swim instructor taught me patience and communication. Coaching young athletes reinforced the importance of mentorship. These experiences helped me understand that athletics are ultimately about people, not just performances.
My ambition extends beyond the pool. I'm currently a student at UCLA with a 3.93 GPA. My long-term goal is to attend law school and pursue a career in sports representation and athlete advocacy. I want to help athletes navigate contracts, branding opportunities, and career development while ensuring their voices are heard. I believe I can become a leader who bridges the worlds of athletics, business, and law. Swimming has given me a platform to understand athletes' challenges firsthand, and I intend to use that perspective to create meaningful change.
Through my experiences in the current swimming system, I have seen both its strengths and its shortcomings. Swimming develops extraordinary people. It teaches discipline, accountability, and perseverance. However, it often fails to reward the athletes who dedicate years of their lives to the sport. For most swimmers, the path is incredibly narrow: train for years, compete in college, and eventually retire with few opportunities to continue building a career in the sport.
Unlike athletes in professional leagues, elite swimmers often have limited earning opportunities, little visibility outside major international competitions, and few ways to build personal brands. The public rarely gets to know the personalities behind the performances. As a result, many talented athletes leave the sport despite having much more to offer. Swimming has some of the most dedicated athletes in the world, yet it often lacks the infrastructure necessary to support them beyond competition alone.
This is where my vision for the future of swimming begins.
Swimming should be more than a developmental pathway; it should be a sustainable career pathway. Athletes should have opportunities to earn income, build brands, engage with fans, and continue competing at the highest level after college. Swimming should embrace storytelling, marketing, and innovation without sacrificing competitive excellence.
I envision a future where swimmers are recognized not only for winning races but also for the impact they have on their communities. Athletes should be encouraged to share their journeys, advocate for important causes, and develop professional skills that prepare them for life beyond competition. The next generation of swimmers should be able to see a future in the sport that extends beyond a single Olympic cycle.
Speed League Swimming has the potential to create that future.
The timing could not be more important. College athletics is evolving rapidly. Athletes are increasingly building personal brands, engaging directly with audiences, and seeking opportunities beyond traditional structures. Swimming cannot afford to remain stagnant while other sports continue to innovate. A professional league would create visibility, financial opportunity, and long-term sustainability for athletes who have devoted their lives to the sport.
For me personally, Speed League Swimming would transform what is possible. It would provide a platform to continue competing while pursuing my academic and professional goals. It would allow me to build a meaningful presence within the sport while gaining experience in athlete advocacy and representation. Most importantly, it would allow me to remain connected to a community that has shaped my life.
As a member of Speed League Swimming, I would contribute both as a competitor and as a voice for the future of the sport. My experiences in leadership, branding, communication, coaching, and athlete development uniquely position me to help grow the league. At UCLA Athletics, I have already worked on rebranding initiatives and organizational strategy. As an upcoming Marketing Director for Girl Gains, I'm learning how to build communities and engage audiences. Combined with my aspirations in law and sports representation, these experiences would allow me to advocate for athletes while helping elevate the league's visibility and impact.
Financially, scholarships are critical to my educational journey. While I have earned academic and community recognition (including AP Scholar with Distinction, Pinnacle Distinguished Student, and multiple leadership and service awards), I continue to rely on financial support to pursue my education and career goals. As a student balancing academics, athletics, employment, and leadership commitments, additional scholarship assistance would help reduce financial barriers and allow me to focus on maximizing the opportunities available to me.
Speed League Swimming is creating a new vision for what swimming can become, recognizing that athletes are more than race results. They're leaders, innovators, advocates, and storytellers. That vision aligns perfectly with my own.
I'm not only committed to excelling in the sport. I am committed to helping redefine it, which is why I believe I am the athlete Speed League Swimming was built for.
Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Aim Higher" Scholarship
If I could build one thing, I would build a stronger system of advocacy for athletes—one that helps them not only succeed in their sport but also navigate life beyond competition.
As a swimmer, coach, swim instructor, and now a student sports manager at UCLA Athletics, I have seen firsthand how much athletes sacrifice to pursue their goals. They dedicate countless hours to training, balancing academics, work, and personal responsibilities while constantly striving to improve. Yet many athletes are expected to navigate contracts, branding opportunities, career transitions, and legal issues with little guidance or support. Too often, their voices are overlooked despite the fact that they are the foundation of the sports industry.
That is why I hope to build a career focused on athlete advocacy and sports representation. As a Communication major on a pre-law track, my goal is to attend law school and eventually work as a sports attorney or agent. I want to create opportunities for athletes to better understand their rights, access professional resources, and build sustainable careers both during and after their time in sports.
What I am really hoping to build is trust. I want athletes to know they have someone who will advocate for them, help them make informed decisions, and ensure they are treated fairly. Whether that involves negotiating contracts, protecting their interests, or helping them develop opportunities outside of competition, I want to be someone who empowers others to achieve their full potential.
The impact of this work extends beyond individual athletes. When athletes are supported, entire communities benefit. Young people gain role models who can invest back into their communities. Sports organizations become stronger and more ethical. Athletes are able to use their platforms to inspire, educate, and create positive change.
My experiences as a team captain, youth coach, tutor, and community volunteer have taught me that leadership is ultimately about helping others succeed. The most meaningful accomplishments are not the awards or titles we earn ourselves but the opportunities we create for others. That lesson is what motivates me to pursue a future centered on advocacy.
Building this future will require years of education, hard work, and dedication, but it is a challenge I am excited to pursue. Through my education, I hope to develop the legal, communication, and leadership skills necessary to become an effective advocate. Ultimately, I want to build a career that allows me to protect others, create opportunities, and make a lasting impact on the athletic community.
The future I hope to build is one where athletes are not only celebrated for their performance, but also supported as people. That is the kind of impact I want my life and career to have.
Natalie Joy Poremski Scholarship
My faith influences the way I approach my daily life, relationships, and future goals. Rather than being something I practice only on Sundays, it serves as the foundation for how I view other people and the responsibility I have to serve them. Through my involvement in Christian fellowship at UCLA, personal prayer, Bible study, and community service, I strive to live out my faith by treating others with compassion, dignity, and respect.
My support for the pro-life movement comes from my belief that every human life has inherent value and worth. I believe that all people, regardless of their age, abilities, circumstances, or stage of development, deserve to be treated with dignity. At the same time, my faith has taught me that supporting life means more than simply holding a belief. It means caring for people in practical ways, especially those facing difficult circumstances. Whether someone is struggling financially, facing an unexpected pregnancy, navigating a disability, or experiencing hardship, I believe Christians are called to respond with compassion, support, and service rather than judgment.
In my day-to-day life, I try to live out these values by investing in others and serving my community. Through coaching youth sports, teaching swim lessons, tutoring students, and volunteering, I have had opportunities to encourage and mentor young people at important stages of their development. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every person has value and potential, and that small acts of support can have a lasting impact on someone's life.
My faith has also played a major role in shaping my future goals and career path. As a Communication major on a pre-law track at UCLA, I hope to attend law school and pursue a career focused on advocacy. I am drawn to law because it provides an opportunity to help people navigate difficult situations, protect their rights, and ensure that their voices are heard. My faith has strengthened my desire to stand up for those who may be vulnerable or overlooked and to use my abilities in service of others.
When I think about protecting life, I think about more than one stage of life. I believe that every person deserves dignity and protection from conception through natural death. This includes supporting children, families, individuals with disabilities, survivors of violence, and those facing challenging circumstances. My faith has taught me that protecting life requires both conviction and compassion, and that meaningful change happens when people are willing to serve others with humility and love.
Through my education, I hope to develop the skills necessary to become an effective advocate and leader. Communication and law both provide powerful tools for creating positive change, whether through public policy, legal advocacy, education, or community outreach. I hope to use my education to promote policies and programs that support individuals and families, expand access to resources, and ensure that every person is treated with dignity and respect.
Ultimately, my faith has given me a sense of purpose that extends beyond personal success. It has challenged me to use my talents, education, and future career to serve others and protect the inherent value of every human life. As I continue my education and pursue a career in law, I hope to be someone who advocates for the vulnerable, promotes compassion in difficult conversations, and works to build a society that recognizes the dignity and worth of every person.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Mental health has shaped my life in ways that I never expected. It has influenced the goals I pursue, the relationships I build, and the way I understand both strength and vulnerability. While my experiences as a student, athlete, and leader have all contributed to who I am, one of the most significant influences on my mental health was surviving sexual assault.
For a long time, I thought strength meant moving on as quickly as possible. I threw myself into school, swimming, leadership positions, work, and community service. From the outside, it looked like I was thriving. I graduated high school with a 4.0 Unweighted GPA, earned college credits while still in high school, became captain of my varsity swim team, and now attend UCLA as a pre-law student. What many people did not see was that I was carrying pain that I had not fully processed.
After my assault, my understanding of myself changed. I struggled with feelings of shame, anger, and a loss of control. I felt lost and disconnected from the person I was before. I learned firsthand how quickly life can change and how deeply trauma can affect someone long after an event is over. The experience challenged my confidence and forced me to confront emotions that I wanted to ignore.
What I eventually learned is that healing is not linear. There was no moment where everything suddenly became okay again. Instead, healing happened through small decisions: continuing to show up to swim practice, focusing on my education, building meaningful relationships, and allowing myself to imagine a future that was bigger than what had happened to me.
One of the most important lessons I gained from my mental health journey is that resilience does not mean pretending you are unaffected. While I used to believe that being strong meant handling everything on my own, I now understand that true strength means being vulnerable. Asking for help when I was mentally unwell was strong. It meant that I cared and did not want to let this pain define my future.
I left the victimhood mentality in the past, but my experiences have profoundly shaped my career goals. I am currently a student at UCLA, and I hope to attend law school in the future. I am particularly interested in advocacy because I understand what it feels like to lose your voice and how powerful it can be when someone helps you reclaim it. I want to help people navigate difficult situations and ensure they feel heard, respected, and empowered.
Mental health has also changed the way I relate to others. One thing trauma taught me is that you never truly know what someone is carrying. Some of the kindest, strongest, and most successful people I know have faced struggles that are invisible to the outside world. Because of this, I try to approach others with empathy rather than judgment. As a swim instructor, tutor, youth coach, and team captain, I learned that leadership is not just about performance or achievement. Rather, it’s about creating an environment where people feel supported and valued.
My experiences have also changed my perception of the world. I used to believe that life was largely predictable and fair if you worked hard enough. Now I understand that hardship can affect anyone, often without warning. While that realization was difficult, it has also made me more compassionate. It has helped me recognize the importance of advocacy, mental health awareness, and creating systems that support people when they are struggling.
Today, I do not define myself by what happened to me. I define myself by how I responded. My experiences with mental health taught me perseverance, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the human experience. They inspired me to pursue a future centered on advocacy and service. Most importantly, they showed me that strength is not about never being hurt. It is about continuing to grow, dream, and move forward past the place of hurt.
Although my experiences have shaped me, they do not limit me. They have given me a greater sense of purpose. They have strengthened my commitment to helping others. And they have taught me that even in life's most difficult moments, healing, growth, and hope remain possible.
Let Your Light Shine Scholarship
A natural-born leader—that's not me. The strength, intelligence, confidence, and dedication making me a leader today are the byproducts of a journey characterized by adversity and resilience. I’m a victim of sexual assault. This does not define me; I harness it as a catalyst for strength and growth.
My journey towards strength began with an awakening to the transformative power of fitness. I found empowerment in reclaiming control over my body through weightlifting. Deadlifting 300 pounds was more than an accomplishment; it symbolized overcoming psychological barriers imposed by trauma. Furthering my recovery, I worked with a therapist and have gained a stronger mindset moving forward.
Swimming also complimented my healing. Initially feeling self-conscious, I quit my favorite sport to conceal the bruises that branded my body. Understanding the assaults don’t define me, I returned to the pool, joining varsity freshman year and earning captain junior year. Swimming isn’t just exercise; it’s how I confront the scars of my past. Today, I’m a dedicated swimmer who lifts weights daily, swims 9 times/week, and volunteers to coach children. While teaching water safety and strokes, I teach children resilience and confidence. I make scary challenges fun by staging tea parties on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love guiding others through challenges.
My hometown, America’s 8th most dangerous city, has countless challenges. I understand the importance of helping my community (aka shining my light in my community), which I do not only as a coach, but as student-government treasurer, club president, and tutor. Being treasurer requires meticulous attention to detail, financial literacy, and the ability to advocate for student-needs. Currently, I’m working to change the “Punch” that grants access to home games for an upfront cost of $60/year, to $30/semester to make this opportunity accessible to students of differing financial situations. Leading two clubs, I organize fundraisers and blood drives. Through diligent study, I’m ranked 4/669 in my class. By tutoring, I share my knowledge and study habits. I love math tutoring since I can offer wide-ranging support (including Computer-Science and Calculus). Helping others gives me purpose. In the future, I’ll continue being a light by turning my passion for strength into service for the community.
I’m inspired to build a fitness business (potentially called Core By Corinne) into a one-stop-shop for working-out, nutrition and athletic coaching, and therapy. I believe mental health is just as important as the physical, and it deserves more attention. While it’s becoming more common, there is still a societal stigma encompassing therapy. I will use my fitness business, however, as a platform to promote physical and mental health as equal priorities. As a business leader, my goal is to empower others, especially those who’ve faced adversity, to recognize their strength and potential. I want to use the strength I’ve attained to inspire others and build a community of empowerment and progress. This Scholarship would help me achieve my dream of creating this gym by providing me the opportunity to afford college and study business.

Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Jack Terry's story inspires me because he did not let the severe and tragic adversity he faced dictate his future. After losing his family in the Holocaust and struggling to survive in the Concentration Camps, he turned his life around, becoming an athlete, psychoanalyst, and Lieutenant while also giving back to the community by spreading his wisdom and hope. Jack Terry exemplifies resilience, hard work, and optimism, qualities that I deeply resonate with.

I returned to the pool, joining the varsity team in my freshman year and earning captain in my junior year. To me, swimming isn’t just exercise; it’s how I confront the scars of my past. Today, I’m a dedicated swimmer who lifts weights daily, swims 9 times/week, and volunteers to coach children. While teaching water safety and strokes, I teach children resilience and confidence. I make scary challenges fun as I stage tea parties on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love guiding others through challenges.
My hometown, America’s 8th most dangerous city, has countless challenges. I understand the importance of helping my community, which I do not only as a coach, but as student-government treasurer, club president, and tutor. Campaigning to 3,000+ students, I was elected treasurer. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, financial literacy, and the ability to advocate for student needs. Currently, I’m working to change the “Punch” that grants access to home games for an upfront cost of $60/year, to $30/semester to make this opportunity accessible to students of differing financial situations. Leading two clubs, I organize fundraisers and blood drives for me and like-minded individuals to volunteer. Through diligent study, I’m ranked 4/669 in my class. By tutoring, I share my knowledge and study habits with others. I love math tutoring since I can offer wide-ranging support (including Computer-Science and Calculus). Helping others gives me purpose. Looking towards my future, I’ll continue by turning my passion for strength into a service for the community.
Fitness revolutionized my life. I’m driven to help others through fitness by opening a gym that promotes strength (both physical and mental) as the foundation of success. By weightlifting, I’ve gained a strong body and mind. From consistent training, I’ve gained discipline, practicing hard-work regardless of my mood. From heavy sets, I’ve built resilience. From gradual progress, I’ve learned delayed gratification, reminding me to be patient and persevere. From my failures, I understand accountability; my results stem from my choices and actions, and only I am accountable. I’m starting to share what I’ve learned by posting motivational fitness videos on my social-media platforms. In the future, I’ll share these lessons as an engaging, supportive gym owner.
Working-out shapes the leader I am today, teaching me valuable lessons that I want to share with others by opening this gym that emphasizes not only achieving gains in our physiques, but also in our mindsets. The Anthony B. Davis Scholarship would help me achieve my dream of creating this gym by providing me the opportunity to afford college. I'm grateful for the opportunity to apply and be considered.

I am a victim of sexual assault. This does not define me; I harness it as a catalyst for strength and growth.
My journey towards strength began with an awakening to the transformative power of fitness. As I embraced weightlifting, I found empowerment in reclaiming control over my body. Deadlifting 300 pounds was more than a physical accomplishment; it symbolized overcoming psychological barriers imposed by trauma. Swimming is another passion that complements my healing. Initially feeling self-conscious, I quit my favorite sport to conceal the bruises and scars that branded my body. Overtime, I understood the assaults don’t define me. I returned to the pool, joining the varsity team in my freshman year and earning captain in my junior year. To me, swimming is not just a form of exercise; it is a way of confronting the scars of my past. Today, I am a disciplined and dedicated swimmer who lifts weights daily, trains in the pool 9 times per week, and volunteers as a swim coach for children in my community. While teaching water safety and competition strokes, I teach children resilience and confidence. When they’re scared to try drills, we persevere through their fears by making scary challenges fun. For example, I staged a tea party on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love creating solutions and guiding others through challenges.
My hometown, America’s 8th most dangerous city, has countless challenges, so I understand the importance of helping my community. In Kindergarten, I joined Girl Scouts, participating in numerous community service events through 8th grade. Today, I continue upholding my Girl Scout Promise to “help people at all times” not only as a coach, but also as student-government treasurer, club president, and tutor.
Campaigning in front of 3,000+ students, I was elected student government treasurer. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, financial literacy, and the ability to effectively advocate for student needs, while providing me a platform to enhance my school’s culture. Currently, I am working to change the “Punch” that grants access to home games for an upfront cost of $60/year, to $30/semester to make this opportunity accessible to students of differing financial situations.
Leading two clubs, I unite approximately 100 members across grades 9-12 and organize fundraisers and blood drives. The work required to coordinate community service events is 100% worthwhile as I serve my community directly through my own participation and indirectly by providing like-minded students opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the greater community. Recently, I planned a Winter Clothes Drive that my club has publicized throughout our high school. We are collecting warm clothes, such as sweaters, hats, scarves, socks, and coats, and we will donate them to a local homeless shelter. Our goal is to help spread warmth this winter.
I also assist my peers by tutoring. Through diligent study and unwavering commitment to my education, I am ranked 4/669 in my class. I share my knowledge, study habits, and time to help other students succeed academically. I especially love math tutoring because I can offer wide-ranging support since I have progressed through all levels of math my school offers—including Statistics and Computer Science—and currently have an A in Calculus at San Joaquin Delta College. I find helping others rewarding; it fills me with drive and purpose. Looking towards my future, I will continue by turning my passion for strength into a service for the community.
Fitness has revolutionized my life, and I am driven to help others through fitness by opening a gym that promotes strength (both physical and mental) as the foundation of success. Through strength training, a strong body and mind. From consistent training, I have gained discipline, practicing working hard regardless of my mood. From heavy sets, I have built resilience, which I harness to persevere through setbacks. From gradual progress, I have learned delayed gratification, reminding me to be patient and never stop trying, even when gains seem minimal. From my failures, I understand accountability; my results stem from my choices and actions, and only I can be held accountable. I want to share these lessons with others! I am starting to share what I’ve learned by posting motivational fitness videos on my social media platforms, but in the near future, I will share these lessons as an engaging and supportive gym owner.

Leading two clubs, I organize fundraisers and blood drives for me and like-minded individuals to volunteer. Through diligent study, I’m ranked 4/669 in my class. By tutoring, I share my knowledge and study habits to help others succeed academically. I love math tutoring since I can offer wide-ranging support (including Computer-Science and Calculus). Helping others gives me purpose. Looking towards my future, I’ll continue by turning my passion for strength into a service for the community.
Fitness revolutionized my life. I’m driven to help others through fitness by opening a gym that emphasizes promoting strength (both physical and mental). Through strength training, I’ve gained so much, but the greatest gains are not reflected in my physique. From consistent training, I’ve gained discipline, practicing hard-work regardless of my mood. From heavy sets, I’ve built resilience, which I harness to persevere through setbacks. From gradual progress, I’ve learned delayed gratification, reminding me to be patient and never stop trying. From my failures, I understand accountability; my results stem from my choices and actions, and only I am accountable. I’m starting to share what I’ve learned by posting motivational fitness videos on my social media platforms. In the future, I’ll share these lessons as an engaging, supportive gym owner.
Working-out shapes the leader I am today, teaching me valuable lessons that I want to share with others by opening a gym that promotes strength as the foundation of success. The Kayla Nicole Monk Memorial Scholarship would help me achieve my dream of creating this gym by providing me the opportunity to afford college. I'm grateful for the opportunity to apply and be considered for this scholarship.

A natural-born leader—that's not me. The strength, intelligence, and dedication making me a leader today are the byproducts of a journey characterized by adversity and resilience. I’m a victim of sexual assault. This doesn’t define me; I harness it as a catalyst for strength and growth.
My journey towards strength began with an awakening to the transformative power of fitness. I found empowerment in reclaiming control over my body through weightlifting. Deadlifting 300lbs was more than an accomplishment; it symbolized overcoming psychological barriers imposed by trauma. Swimming also complements my healing. Initially feeling self-conscious, I quit my favorite sport to conceal the bruises that branded my body. Understanding the assaults don’t define me, I returned to the pool, joining varsity freshman year and earning captain junior year. To me, swimming isn’t just exercise; it’s how I confront the scars of my past. Today, I’m a dedicated swimmer who lifts weights daily, swims 9 times/week, and volunteers to coach children. While teaching water safety and strokes, I teach children resilience and confidence. I make scary challenges fun by staging tea parties on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love guiding others through challenges.
My hometown, America’s 8th most dangerous city, has countless challenges. I understand the importance of helping my community, which I do not only as a coach, but as student-government treasurer, club president, and tutor. Love Island Fan Scholarship
My game idea is "Are You A Confident or Cocky Couple?" It is an interactive guessing game where the couples compete as a team of two. The girls and boys will each take turns responding to the host's questions with their guess about their partner. The first question will be "How many push-ups in a row can your man do?" All the girls will write down their guesses on a small white board and reveal their answer after 10 seconds. The boyfriend of the girl who guessed the highest number of pull-ups will be put to the test. If he can do that number of push-ups, he wins a heart sticker for his couple. If he loses, the couple cannot participate in the following question and has to wait for the round after that to rejoin the game. The first couple to win two stickers will be crowned as the Most Confident Couple!
But!!!! There's a twist, after winning a round, the winning couple can choose to add one sticker to their scoreboard or remove one of the other couple's stickers. Will the couple play offense or defense?!! This would be so interesting to watch!
I have more ideas for the questions! The second question for the boys to answer about their girlfriends could be "How fast can your girl drink this entire milkshake?" A few more of my ideas for questions include the following: "How many tennis balls can your girl catch in a row?", “How many past Love Island Stars can your partner name (first names only)?”, and "How many Marshmellos can your man put into his mouth and still be able to clearly say "Soul Ties is Crazy"?
I am such a big fan of Love Island! Soul Ties is crazy!

Initially feeling self-conscious, I quit my favorite sport to conceal the bruises and scars that branded my body. Overtime, I understood the assaults don’t define me. I returned to the pool, joining varsity in freshman year and earning captain in junior year. To me, swimming isn’t just exercise; it’s how I confront the scars of my past. Today, I’m a dedicated swimmer who lifts weights daily, swims 9 times/week, and volunteers to coach children. While teaching water safety and competition strokes, I teach children resilience and confidence. When they’re scared to try drills, we persevere through their fears by making scary challenges fun. For example, I staged a tea party on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love guiding others through challenges.
My hometown has countless challenges; it’s America’s 8th most dangerous city, so I understand the importance of helping my community. In Kindergarten, I joined Girl Scouts, participating in numerous community-service events. Today, I continue upholding my Girl Scout Promise to “help people at all times” not only as a coach, but also as student-government treasurer, club president, and tutor.
Being elected treasurer requires meticulous attention to detail, financial literacy, and the ability to advocate for student needs. I’m currently working to change the “Punch” that grants access to home games for an upfront cost of $60/year, to $30/semester to make this opportunity accessible to students of differing financial situations. Leading two clubs, I organize fundraisers and blood drives. The work required to coordinate community-service events is 100% worthwhile because I serve my community directly through my participation and indirectly by providing like-minded students volunteer opportunities. I also assist my peers by tutoring. Through diligent study, I’m ranked 4/669 in my class. I share my knowledge and study habits to help others succeed academically. I especially love math tutoring since I can offer wide-ranging support (including Calculus). Helping others gives me purpose. Looking towards my future, I will continue by turning my passion for strength into a service for the community.
Fitness has revolutionized my life, and I’m driven to help others through fitness, too. I aspire to open a gym. The greatest gains from the gym are not reflected in my physique. From consistent training, I’ve gained discipline, practicing working hard regardless of my mood. From heavy sets, I’ve built resilience, which I harness to persevere through challenges. From gradual progress, I've learned delayed gratification, reminding me to be patient and never stop trying, even when gains seem minimal. From my failures, I understand accountability; my results stem from my choices and actions, and only I am accountable.
Working-out has shaped the leader I am today, teaching me valuable lessons that I want to share with others by opening a gym that promotes strength as the foundation of success. The W. Tong and A.C. Wong Legacy Scholarship would help me achieve my dream of creating this gym by providing me the opportunity to afford college.

My hometown is America’s 8th most dangerous city, so I understand the importance of helping my community. In Kindergarten, I joined Girl Scouts, participating in numerous community service events through 8th grade. I continue upholding my Girl Scout Promise to “help people at all times.” Today, I serve people in my community as student government treasurer, club president, tutor, and coach.
Campaigning in front of more than 3,000 students, I was elected student government treasurer. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, financial literacy, and the ability to effectively advocate for student needs, while providing me a platform to enhance my school’s culture. Currently, I am working to change the “Punch” that grants access to home games for an upfront cost of $60 per year, to $30 per semester to make this opportunity accessible to students of differing financial situations.
I also assist my peers by tutoring. Through diligent study and unwavering commitment to my education, I am ranked 4th out of 669 students in my class. I share my knowledge, study habits, and time to help other students succeed academically. I especially love math tutoring because I can offer wide-ranging support since I have progressed through all levels of math my school offers—including Statistics and Computer Science—and currently have an A in Calculus at Delta College.
Outside school, I volunteer as a swim coach Monday through Thursday. While teaching water safety and all of the competition strokes of the Individual Medley, I teach children resilience and confidence. When they are scared to try new drills, we persevere through their fears by making scary challenges fun. For example, I staged a tea party on the pool floor to redirect their focus away from the breathless seconds underwater. I love creating solutions and guiding others through challenges.
I find helping others rewarding; it fills me with drive and purpose. Looking towards my future, I plan to continue to help others by continuing my involvement in my community as a volunteer swim coach and volunteer at various community service events. I promise to continue serving the community, and this Girl Scout never breaks a promise!

A natural born leader—that's definitely not me. The strength, confidence, intelligence, and dedication that make me a leader today are the byproducts of a journey characterized by adversity and resilience. I am a victim of sexual assault. This does not define me; I harness it as a catalyst for strength and growth.

Fitness has revolutionized my life, and I am driven to help others through fitness as well. In conjunction with the nonprofit I’m developing to support sexual-assault survivors through sponsorship, I aspire to open a gym. Working out has shaped the leader I am today, teaching me valuable life lessons that I want to share with others by opening a gym that promotes strength as the foundation of success. I believe that the gym I create will positively influence others by encouraging them to push themselves and better themselves through fitness. Strength is beneficial for the health of our bodies and minds, and it has beneficial applications in the outside world. I am hopeful that my gym will help both men and women to become stronger, more confident individuals.
