Many times in my soccer career I have experienced change and more often than not, change has brought forth its challenges along “”risk-taking”. In my junior year of high school, I had been playing on the varsity soccer team for two years. We were like a well-oiled machine, so used to each other’s style of playing and temperament. In prior years, our team had been fairly competitive and as the new year rolled around several of the leaders graduated leaving massive hole on the team. The start of the next season could be characterized by a certain amount of ambiguity. We had a new head coach with a different style of play than the old coach. This transition caused certain tensions in the group; it took some time for the older players, including myself, to accommodate to this new type of play. Also, due to the minimum number of experienced seniors, young players took more key positions. I had some doubts about the new changes but, I understood the need to be a role model and adjust to the new goals and objectives successfully. We would experience some failures Sometimes it’s possible even to get into moments when doubts are becoming an issue, and one can feel rather discouraged. But I was convinced that the team I was heading worked and kept on insisting on the need to keep on trying. I also encouraged my teammates that it is not the event that happened to us that counts but how we handle the situation. I urged my teammates to learn from our mistakes as we move to the next stage of the tournament. One example is when we had the match half through the season against a team that was historically our primary competitor in the league. Though we prepared well and tried hard, we were losing in the first half of the match. I knew I had to give the team some positive reinforcement as we headed into the second half of the game. I focused the team’s assets and pointed out our achievements in the first half. I urged everybody to have faith in our capability to wake up and win the game. The words that I spoke appeared to have some sort of impact because as we came out of the half, we had the hunger and the drive. In retrospect, during that particular soccer season I learned many important lessons about the mechanics of leadership during change and uncertainty. As a result of participating in this learning experience, I came to understand the value of viewing the challenges as the opportunities as well as strengthening the principles of team work based on the principles of trust and communication. It built upon the notion that strong leadership goes beyond one’s performance and the performance of employees, but it creates within followers, the vision of a goal to be achieved. As for helping my community in the future, I look forward to using the knowledge acquired from Howard University’s sports management program to make sports a powerful catalyst for change in my community. Picture this, a community sports program whose main objective is to provide affordable and inclusive athletic activities for everyone. It will create a sense of community and empowerment. This program would involve collaboration with local schools and community centers to identify some of the local youth who face economic barriers when it comes to participating in organized sports. With the use of sponsorships and donations from local businesses, every amazing athlete will be able to join teams or attend sports camps.

This program aligns perfectly with my passion for sports and my desire to contribute positively to society by addressing this very important issue. On the soccer field, I have dedicated countless hours honing my skills, embracing discipline, and embracing the spirit of teamwork. From the pure thrill of scoring goals to the lessons learned in defeat, every moment has shaped me into a strong and determined player. As I aspire to become the best version of myself on the pitch, I carry the same level of dedication to my academic pursuits. I am proud of my academic achievements, and I see each academic challenge as an opportunity for growth. Balancing rigorous academics with the tiring training schedules of soccer has not only improved my organizational skills but has also gifted me the ability to perform under pressure and enhance my time management skills. Being able to efficiently manage my time will help me down the road when it's time to commit to a career. Meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks are essential parts of excelling in a career. The perseverance and dedication required to excel in soccer has also nurtured a strong work ethic that will undoubtedly set me apart from others as I pursue my career goals. Playing varsity soccer in high school has taught me the true value of teamwork and collaboration. Playing alongside my teammates has allowed me to build a connection and therefore achieve success off of said connection. This connection has not only improved my social skills but also ingrained in me a deep understanding of the importance of cooperation. These skills were proven to be very effective in group projects. I would undoubtedly connect these skills to have contributed to my success in group project efforts. Participating in soccer has enhanced my ability to not succumb to pressure and properly deal with setbacks such as a broken ankle that took me out for 6 months right before my junior year at the height of college recruitment. Facing these challenges as well as those on the field, such as tough opponents or unexpected losses, has taught me to remain calm under pressure and maintain focus. Soccer has also provided me with this sense of self-confidence and a strong belief in my capabilities. Overcoming obstacles and achieving personal goals on the field has made my belief that with dedication and effort, I can conquer any challenge stronger. This self-belief will undoubtedly allow me to blossom as I pursue my career goals. This will empower me to take risks and be able to pursue new opportunities without hesitation. I have chosen to pursue a higher education, simply due to the fact I would like more opportunities and openings for success in life. Recently, I verbally committed and signed to Howard University to study Sports Management and to play Division 1 soccer. My decision to attend Howard University was greatly influenced by its rich history, excellent educational infrastructure, and its reputation as a breeding ground for some of the most phenomenal African American leaders and professionals in various fields. Coupled with my enthusiasm and dedication towards my major, I am confident that Howard will provide the perfect environment for flourishing intellectually and personally. As a rising freshman at Howard University, a remarkable institution known for nurturing exceptional talent, I am committed to evolving my skills and knowledge to the highest level possible. With my Sports Management degree from Howard University, I will be ready to plan and execute this community program that tackles the issue of limited access to sports opportunities for underprivileged youth. Recognizing the power sports have when it comes to discipline, teamwork, and personal growth I believe that by breaking down financial barriers and providing assistance, this program can empower the next generation, passing down values that go beyond the playing field. I chose Sports Management despite it being quite unconventional because I saw potential in the field - potential for change, potential for growth, and potential for a homogeneous blend of my academic interests and career prospects I am determined to excel in my studies, immerse myself in internships, volunteering, and leadership roles in a bid to leverage sports for greater socio-economic impact in the communities that need it most. I am proud of my academic achievements, and I see each academic challenge as an opportunity for growth. My journey is not just about personal success; it’s about contributing to a lifetime of hard work and perseverance. During my high school soccer season, I found myself leading our soccer team through a tough season. It wasn't just about scoring goals but also about establishing bonds within the squad and creating a tight-knit team infused with team spirit. I started things off by organizing team-bonding sessions, in an attempt to try and bring us closer both on and off the field. We weren't just teammates, we were a soccer family. During practices, I made countless efforts to acknowledge everyone's efforts, whether they made a killer save or just hustled hard. When things got difficult and the nerves started to creep in during matches, I made sure to keep the morale up and supply my teammates with the confidence they needed to thrive. We would huddle, share some words of encouragement, and focus on the game plan. It wasn't just about my performance, it was about lifting the whole team. Off the field, I took the initiative to study our opponents, sharing information with the team. I wanted us to be prepared and confident going into every game. If a teammate was struggling, I'd offer a lending hand or share an encouraging word. We were in it together. Sure, there were disagreements and tough losses, but I made an effort to keep things positive. Celebrating the small victories, like a well-executed play or a hard-earned goal, helped keep the team motivated. In the end, our season might not have been flawless, but we grew together. It wasn't just about winning games, it was about learning, supporting each other, and making memories on the soccer field.

My dad was born in He has instilled the island culture into our American-Caribbean family. At home, he often plays reggae and Soca music, cooks St. Lucian cuisine, teaches my siblings and me creole, and tells very interesting stories about his childhood. There was a healthy balance of both American and St. Lucian cultures within my family. The exposure to a different culture, the unique perspectives of my St. Lucian's family and the experiences of a simpler lifestyle all had a significant impact on my academics. I began to truly appreciate the value of my cultural diversity. I traveled to St. Lucia and when I returned home from my trip, I was eager to find clubs and subjects that relate to Afro-Caribbean culture. I began to seek out people who consider themselves Afro-Caribbean in order to recreate the same bonds I had back in St. Lucia. I engaged with people from diverse backgrounds, both inside and outside the classroom. I could not stop myself from discussing my trip with my teachers as well as my peers. Additionally, I placed more importance on relationships, and the community drove me to become more involved in extracurricular activities that involved teamwork and a sense of bonding. This ultimately improved my personal development and allowed me to thrive in my educational studies. There are many ways in which one could provide ordinary help to friends, family, or other people in everyday life: As a high school student, I try to support others in different ways. One way I can be considerate, and caring is by gaining the trust of a person by listening to then without judging them. Of course, I always seek to comfort friends who wish to speak about their problems and want someone to listen to them or simply complain. In ways, I am able to make time to listen and also try to give advice when it is most needed for those who are in pain and sorrows. I speak with kindness by listening to others and giving them a helping ear. It is my desire to respect all people, and show kindness to individuals irrespective of their color, sex, nationality or religion. This assists in fostering an environment of positive attitude and encouraging tolerance leading to feelings of acceptance and embrace. This is because through showing care and tolerance I am able to have acquaintance with people and be of alternative solace to them. Another way I tend to support others in my daily life is when they seek help or want me to aid them in any way. I also care for people’s needs as friends as wells as too often assist a classmate with homework, console when someone feel down, or help out with cleaning as a good neighbor and friend would. In this case am able to assist those in need and this is an essence of extending a hand of hand in helping those near and dear to me. In addition, I help my fellow students in need by encouraging them and motivating them to work hard as well. Whether it’s at a sports game, encouraging a friend, or promoting a classmate’s achievement, I am always in a position to encourage everybody and ensure that they do their best in tasks If I speak positive remarks to the needy individuals, I can instill hope in these individuals to perform their level best. I also felt that I should try and assist my family members in whatever ways I could. Some of the typical activities include household chores, making errands, or just proving my valuable presence to my family members. In this way, I feel comfortable in expressing my love and appreciation to my family and, therefore, have that daily support usually required by ambitious people. In my everyday life, it is important for me to support others so as to have fun and turn them into effect and also build good relations. No matter whether it is words of wisdom or simply lending an ear, help in some chores or a word of motivational push for my family or friends, I am ready to be a shoulder to lean on.

Engaging in the community has been an eye-opening journey for me as it has shaped my perspective on the world and emphasized the importance of giving back. Through various volunteer experiences, I have come to understand that contributing to my community is not just a responsibility but also an opportunity for personal growth and fulfillment. It has become an experience of which no other opportunity can provide me. To me, giving back means actively participating in tasks that liven up those in need within my community. It goes beyond merely offering assistance; it involves investing time, effort, and empathy to create positive change. One of the most impactful lessons I have learned is that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a large impact. What may seem small and inconsequential could make a life-changing difference in someone else's life. Community service is not just about addressing immediate challenges but building a foundation for a stronger, more developed society. It brings communities together and allows for true and genuine connections to be made. It creates a sense of unity and shared responsibility. By volunteering, I have witnessed firsthand how diverse individuals can come together, putting their skills and resources together to tackle common issues. While the issue may not be fully resolved, such as hunger or education, it can provide the boost that was otherwise unavailable. This collective effort strengthens the bonds within a community. The importance of community service extends beyond the benefits. It gives a sense of empathy and social awareness. It is making a generation of individuals who are not only aware of the challenges around them but are also motivated to actively contribute to solutions. This mindset shift is crucial for building the ideal society. Moreover, community service teaches valuable life skills. Personally, this past week, I took the initiative to participate in an elective fair. I was informing students on one of the many electives I had taken, which was Sports Nutrition. At this elective fair, I informed incoming students about the various benefits and described how taking a sports nutrition class might be for them. From attending this event, I learned how to communicate more effectively and learn more about people. Whether it's organizing events, working in a team, or problem-solving in real-world scenarios, these experiences provide lessons that go far beyond the classroom. It gives individuals an extensive set of skills, preparing them for the adult world.

Opening up about my mental health isn't easy, but I've come to realize that there's strength in vulnerability. High school is simple yet so complex and sometimes it feels like we're all just hanging on, trying to survive the twists and turns. I've had my share of ups and downs, moments when the weight and workload of high school just felt like too much to handle. Mental health is a topic that doesn't always get the attention it deserves, but it's crucial to talk about it openly, especially as a man. Admitting that I've faced challenges with my mental health isn't a sign of weakness, it's rather a sign of strength. By sharing my struggles, I want to rewrite the negative connotation surrounding mental health and let others know they're not alone. Sharing my personal stories may not completely resolve this ongoing issue, but it could inspire others to share theirs, ultimately creating a ripple effect. It takes a lot of strength to say, "Hey, I'm not okay, and that's okay." It's like permitting yourself to be human and acknowledge that perfection isn’t real. When I started talking about my experiences, I started to notice a community of support I never knew existed. Friends, classmates, and even teachers shared their stories, creating an environment of shared strength. While discovering my vulnerability, I found inspiration. It's in the friend who, instead of judgment, listens to what you have to say and how you feel. It's in the teachers who shared their struggles, proving that even adults face battles behind their confident identities. I hope that by being open about my mental health, I can be that source of inspiration for someone else. Through my words, I want to connect, showing that we're more alike than we might think. Mental health doesn't discriminate, and it certainly doesn't care about popularity or labels. By embracing my vulnerabilities, I would invite others to do the same. I would inspire the community to let go of the false identities they portray and share their true selves. The weight of trying to be another person or identity can become unbearable and often people lose sight of who they truly are. As for my future goals, picture this, a community sports program whose main objective is to provide affordable and inclusive athletic activities for everyone. Additionally, regularly organized sports clinics led by experienced coaches, will be available in order to ensure optimal skill development and coaching. These organized events will celebrate achievements, encourage community engagement, and promote a safe space of support for young athletes. Measuring success will involve tracking participants' progress in academics, personal development, and, of course, sports performance. As a rising freshman at Howard University, a remarkable institution known for nurturing exceptional talent, I am committed to evolving my skills and knowledge to the highest level possible. My dream is to leverage this opportunity to achieve a strong foundation in Sports Management and explore strategies that can bring about transformative changes in the sports industry.

At practices, I made countless efforts to acknowledge everyone's efforts, whether they made a killer save or just hustled hard. When things got difficult and the nerves started to creep in during matches, I made sure to keep the morale up and supply my teammates with the confidence they needed to thrive. We would huddle, share some words of encouragement, and focus on the game plan. It wasn't just about my performance; it was about lifting the whole team. I plan to continue to lead in college and create a name for myself. Becoming a leader is a journey of self-discovery and growth. It's not just about the label, it's about inspiring others, making positive changes, and leaving an impact. To become a leader, a person should first seek self-awareness. Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and passions helps an individual establish their position in their journey for effective leadership. Leadership also requires a great deal of empathy and the ability to connect with others. By actively listening, and understanding different perspectives, you can establish trust and inspire those around you. Additionally, a leader must have a clear vision and the courage to pursue it. Setting achievable goals, taking risks, and not backing down when in the face of challenges are important qualities of leadership. Continuing to Learn and adapt are also very important. Leaders must be willing to receive criticism and feedback, willing to learn from both successes and failures, and possess flexibility. Ultimately, becoming a leader is a process of personal development that is very rewarding.

I would like to consider myself as someone who can be beneficial to society because I can be of help in so many scenarios. At the moment, I am able to give people information and help if they needed. In the future when technology progresses and new ideas concerning disability emerge, I can remain useful and helpful in the new ways. Cultural issues play a decisive role in shaping how I understand my role. These norms refer to the specific set of code of conduct that is not written but follows the acceptable behavior of individuals in society. It influences my thinking in a sense that it guides me on what kind of behaviors are appropriate or what kind of appearance is deemed befitting. For instance, in the contemporary world, people are so much concerned with integration for the disabled, people of different ethnicity and those with disabilities among others. This is why I must be careful whenever I have to give information or help, by being aware of other people’s point of view. Social expectations also affect the tools and technology available for use as well. For example, use of internet ensures that I can relate with more people in the society and offer support to as many people as I can. But it is also useful because it requires me to be careful what information I publish and make sure it is accurate. In addition, roles, right, and responsibilities define the norms by which people engage with me, and in a way, they see me as a resource that must be available and useful. Consequently, I worry that I cannot effectively meet these expectations and feel the need to update and advance myself further in my personal development. This might involve training in new languages or gaining new knowledge in diverse fields in order to be of better help to various groups of people Moreover, there are these rules of conduct that have to remain within society acting as ethical frameworks that I have to follow. For instance, where I’m assisting people, I must be conscious of their rights to privacy and being an adult. This implies that I am unable to disclose information about someone or acts that would bind that person without his or her permission. Concisely, it can be noted that traditional norms have a very influential role in how I view myself as a positive entity. Therefore, it becomes my duty to make myself active and sharpen my knowledge and skills in order to meet these expectations. They may also involve training in new languages or different areas of specialization to better serve different consumers. Besides, it is important to understand what is ethically acceptable in a given society in which the given organization operates. For instance, while offering a hand I have to ensure I do not intrude the privacy as well as independence of other people. For example, I cannot disclose information regarding an individual or of a group without the consent of the individual or group in question. In conclusion, it can be agreed that societal norms are of essence in encouraging or discouraging how an individual like me perceives his or her worth in society. They lead me to act, inform the tools I can use, establish others’ expectations of me, and delineate what is right and wrong in my business. This means that it will help me get familiar with the different norms within the society so that I can be in a position to maximize on my ability to make a positive impact on the society.

Recognizing the power sports have when it comes to discipline, teamwork, and personal growth I believe that by breaking down financial barriers and providing assistance, this program can empower the next generation, passing down values that go beyond the playing field. During my high school years, I volunteered in a community outreach program at my local church, where we provided backpacks filled with school supplies to less fortunate students. The main reason I decided to volunteer was my understanding that education is an essential tool and a step closer to equity and social justice and that every child deserves the resources necessary for academic success. The backpack distribution project was more than just handing out supplies. It required careful planning and teamwork with local schools, businesses, and volunteers. Our main goal was to identify the students most in need and make sure that each backpack contained essential items like notebooks, pencils, and even personal hygiene products. This overall experience had spread awareness for not just academic needs, but the overall health of the students. Participating in this program taught me valuable lessons about empathy and the systemic barriers that many children face. I met families who struggled to provide basic necessities, let alone school supplies. The experiences that came along with the program at Wesley Church emphasized the importance of creating more understanding and inclusive environments where every student has the opportunity to do well. By helping these families with the financial burdens they were facing, we intended to create a more stable and just start to the school year. I have also been involved in other community service activities, such as helping students from less fortunate backgrounds at the career fair, by showing/motivating them to find their future careers. These experiences have strengthened my belief that promoting justice and inclusion requires constant effort and cooperation to engage with ongoing social issues.

The day of tryouts, happened to go smoothly. My mind was clear and my performance was peak. Day in and day out, I had put in extra hours sharpening my skills. I was on the 1st team roster for an upcoming game. Coming off the bench, I knew this was a turning point in my career. I reminded myself of how far I had come due to my pure love for the game. Then it all came to a halt. A broken ankle as a result of a poorly timed tackle led to me being sidelined for 8 months. It was a devastating blow both physically and emotionally. I had been performing at my peak, and suddenly, I found myself unable to even step onto the field. It was a time filled with frustration, self-doubt, and pain. I questioned whether I would ever fully recover and regain my form. However, this experience taught me resilience and perseverance. I realized that setbacks are a part of any athlete's journey, and how we respond to them defines our character. During those long months of rehabilitation, I worked tirelessly to rebuild my strength and skills. I learned the importance of patience and the value of a supportive team, both on and off the field. This adversity ultimately made me a stronger and more determined player. Luckily, my ankle was stable enough without surgery making it easier to recover. I was able to jump back into practice, although there were some moments where I couldn’t run any longer or keep up with the pace of practices as well as games. I worked tirelessly to get back my starting spot. I began working with coaches behind the scenes, to get back to the place where I once was. Some months had passed and I got back to my form in no time. Breaking tackles, dribbling through 3-4 players, shooting on point; it was as if I hadn’t been injured at all. One night, I was taken out of practice to practice with the first team. I knew I had to prove myself. That night was one of the greatest performances I had in my whole career and I was put on the 1st team for the rest of the year. This night taught me the true value of persistence. Playing at such a high level in soccer comes with a great deal of setbacks, ups and downs, complex situations, and moments of doubt. Through these experiences, I've developed important life skills, gained a strong sense of discipline, and established a persistent mindset. Persistence, in its many forms, is extremely hard to master, but when conquered, an individual will flourish.

During my high school years, I decided I was going to help my classmates who weren’t as fortunate, through my services. The services included free tutoring as well as guidance, and these services were available to underprivileged students in my community. Although it wasn't an official project, I took the initiative to make a change. Students from low-income areas are often neglected in the traditional classroom environment. I decided I was going to gather a group of friends and volunteers who had agreed to offer their help to any student who wasn’t necessarily getting the attention they needed to excel academically. Through talking and evaluating how these students worked, as a group we were able to create personalized study regimes and handed out studying tactics. Our main goal was to motivate these students and give them the push they need to reach their full potential. After a while, we were able to see slight positive trends in their confidence levels and academic performance. Starting a business in a low-income area is an exciting idea that I believe can make a positive impact on marginalized and underserved populations in not just my community, but others as well. I would like to create a bookstore and cafe that provides low-cost services, and books and tutoring are free. Over the years, I've noticed the inflation that has taken place in many of my favorite stores. I sometimes struggle with the high costs and often think about the people who aren’t as fortunate as me. The cafe will provide a safe space for people to talk about their struggles, discuss ideas, and form relationships. Local Authors can also get more exposure, through our business. By allowing some local author’s bookwork, I can further the overall economic growth of the community. I know starting this business would take careful planning and finding out the overall needs of the community. If we are going to build this bookstore in a low-income area, we need to hear from the people within the area. Therefore, I would make small surveys or organize meetings within the community in order to get more information on the type of books people are interested in and what they would want the overall bookstore’s layout to look like. I believe having the people from these areas design and choose the physical layout of the bookstore and cafe will allow them to express themselves and their ideas freely. Although this is only an idea as of now, I would like to make it a reality in the future.

The one teacher who has undeniably left their mark and affected my life in the most positive way possible is Mrs. Baylis, my junior-year Spanish teacher. Mrs. Baylis was an inspiration, a helping hand, and a part-time therapist who just happened to be a teacher as well. She was full of energy, even though our class happened to be closer to the end of the school day, which was when most teachers would become less enthusiastic. Her interesting stories about studying abroad and how she adapted to the environment has arguably motivated me to learn a new language the same way. Mrs. Baylis always found ways to connect with her students regardless of their background, ethnicity, culture, etc. Whether we were formulating sentences or learning new vocabulary words, she was always patient and understood her students' pace at which they learned. She created this sort of haven, a protected and understanding homeroom environment where I felt welcome and excited to enter every day. From my wild outbreaks after lunch to the quiet days, Mrs. Baylis always accepted who I was. Although there were times I got on her bad side, we were able to quickly resolve it. Even though I am not currently in her class, she still offers her unwavering support, and I can reach out to her anytime. I distinctly remember, talking to her about how overwhelming Junior year was for me, and how at that time in my life was one of the lowest I’ve ever been. Instead of being judgmental, she told me a story about how she felt the same way during her junior year as well. She told me that meditating before school had allowed her to come to school with a clean and ready mind. To this day, I find mornings where I feel as if the stress from the past couple of days is weighing me down, and I meditate. Her support has allowed me to push through tedious assignments and given me a reason to look forward to coming to school every day. Mrs. Baylis’ commitment to her teachings and her love for teaching has left a very impressionable imprint on me. Mrs. Baylis is one of a kind, and I would be lucky to even come close to someone who had the same impact that she has had on me, down the line in my academics. I'm so thankful for her, and I hope to use her teachings to my advantage later on in life.

Vulnerability is not something to frown upon and by showing it proudly, I hope to inspire a wave of people who feel empowered to share their stories. Imagine a world where we lift each other instead of tearing each other down. In our high school journey, we're all navigating unknown territory. By being open about mental health, we can create a sense of hope for those who may be silently struggling. It's an effort that requires us to come together, recognizing that it's not about the absence of challenges but about facing them head-on. I'm not perfect, and I don't have all the answers, but my imperfection is a strength that comes from embracing the complex realities of life. As a community, let’s talk about mental health, support each other, and create a high school experience where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

When I was 12 years old, my dad and I boarded the plane at John F Kennedy Airport heading to St. Lucia. I was very nervous about the flight about meeting my grandma and cousins. My dad was born there, and this was the first time I was going back with him. My father had instilled the island culture into our American-Caribbean family. At home, he often plays reggae and Soca music, cooks St. Lucian cuisine, teaches my siblings and me creole, and tells very interesting stories about his childhood. There was a healthy balance of both American and St. Lucian cultures within my family. When we landed, I was able to see palm trees and old taxi cabs, and the smell of the beach seemed to linger. The road was dust covered and full of pot holes. The houses were painted bright colors with some using huge tarps as makeshift roofs. I was thinking, "What has my dad gotten me into?” I stayed for a week and met many people who lived with far less than I did. Despite this, they were all happy and shared whatever they had. I learned that we are all people in the end with the same aspirations, same desires to get a good education. I had become accustomed to a different pace of life. In St. Lucia time seemed to flow and pass relatively fast. I learned to prioritize family more, whether that was spending time together or strengthening bonds. The simple pleasures of life in St. Lucia, such as eating and sharing meals with my extended family and just engaging in meaningful conversations on the front stoop with my cousins and neighboring kids, made me want to stay there permanently. Returning to America after my visit to St. Lucia, I found that my changed perspective influenced my approach to learning. The exposure to a different culture, the unique perspectives of my St. Lucian's family and the experiences of a simpler lifestyle all had a significant impact on my academics. I began to truly appreciate the value of my cultural diversity. When I returned home, I was eager to find clubs and subjects that relate to Afro-Caribbean culture.

Starting a business in my community is an exciting idea that I believe can make a positive impact on everyone around. As a teenager with big dreams, I see this as an opportunity not just for personal success but also as a way to contribute to the general welfare of my community. I would like to establish a community-derived bookstore and cafe. The reason behind this choice is simple. I've noticed that our town doesn’t provide a cozy space where people can not only buy and read books but also catch up with each other over a cup of coffee. How does this business contribute to the general welfare of the community? Well, a bookstore is more than just a place to buy books. It becomes a place for cultural diversity and growth. By offering a variety of books, including those from local authors, the bookstore promotes literacy and knowledge. The cafe will be providing a space for people to gather, discuss ideas, and form bonds. Additionally, by allowing some local author’s bookwork, I can contribute to the economic growth of the community. Developing this business involves careful planning and understanding the needs of the community. Firstly, I would make surveys or organize community meetings to gather more information on the type of books people are interested in and other amenities they'd like to see in the space. This ensures that the business is customized for the community. Next, I'd focus on creating a warm and inviting environment. The physical layout of the bookstore and cafe should be comfortable, with cozy chairs and spaces for group discussions or events. Incorporating local art on the walls, a variety of plants, and hosting book clubs or author meet-ups can further enhance the sense of community. Working with local suppliers is necessary for the success of the business. Partnering with nearby farmers for coffee beans and local bakers for pastries not only supports local businesses but also makes sure the cafe is known for its freshness and quality. Community involvement doesn't stop with the physical space. Utilizing social media and other online platforms can help connect with a larger audience. Organizing virtual book clubs, sharing literary recommendations, and promoting community events online can also provide the community with a sense of belonging beyond the cafe itself. In conclusion, starting a community-focused bookstore and cafe as a high schooler involves understanding the needs of the local community, creating a welcoming space, and actively engaging with both physical and online platforms. As a high school entrepreneur, I believe in the power of this small business, and its ability to transform this community.

Every journey is based on a dream. Players worldwide envision themselves competing against top talents, representing their country, and becoming the best version of themselves. Dreams are turned into fuel in which their passion is used to push one’s limits. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. The path is riddled with hurdles and is nowhere close to a pleasant experience. Persistence shines the brightest in the face of adversity. The day of tryouts, delayed by rain, happened to go smoothly. My mind was clear and in a flow state. My performance was peak, and I was brought up to the first team. Seeing the change in the overall pace of the game was a definite wake-up call. I knew the environment was adaptable. My first glimpse of the ball at my feet was stripped from me shortly after. Repeatedly losing the ball is very stress-inducing; however, I couldn’t allow myself to surrender to the pressure. The possibility of playing alongside some of the top players in our region was enticing. Every touch, every pass, every move required quick calculations and an even better execution. To be able to adapt to this new environment, I needed to grasp a better understanding of the game in general. The frustration leading up to this realization was unbearable. Vigorous training and a craving to learn seemed to be my only two options. Day in and day out, I put in extra hours sharpening my skills. I was always the first to arrive at training, and the last to leave. I dissected the film piece by piece to see what I could’ve done better at the moment. Analyzing professional games and closely inspecting the players that may resemble how I play or where I play positionally. Any chance I had, the ball was at my feet weaving through cones. With time, my efforts began to show promising results. My touches improved, my passes were for the most part flawless, and my overall understanding of the game became broader. The coach started to notice my slight improvements every practice and decided to place me on the roster for an upcoming game. For the first time, I felt as if I was an important piece in this team’s success. The months upon months of persistence leading up to this moment brought me to the point where I could hold my playing against some of the best young talent in my area. I found myself connecting with my teammates, and creating bonds I would have never even thought about creating. They served as mentors and friends, rather than just my teammates. Coming off the bench, I knew this was a turning point in my career. I reminded myself of how far I had come due to my pure love for the game. I prayed before entering the field, the calm before the storm. The hunger to improve carried onto the playing field. I only played for 30 minutes; however, I was able to take critical chances and have quite an impact on the game. Coming back from injury was a tough time, although I came back twice the player I was before. I knew this was a second chance, another chance to impress the first-team coaches and get back my starting spot on the starting lineup. Some months had passed, and I would say I got back to my form in no time. Breaking tackles, dribbling through 3-4 players, shooting on point; it was as if I hadn’t been injured at all. One night, I was taken out of practice to practice with the first team. It wasn’t expected, although I knew I had to prove myself. That night was one of the greatest performances I had in my whole career. The manager pulled me out of practice and let me know he wanted me on the squad for the rest of the year and saw me getting quality playing time. Receiving this scholarship would be a dream come true. It would allow me to go to my dream school Howard University. It would alleviate the financial burden on my family and allow me to pursue my education while continuing to play the sport I love at a competitive level. This scholarship would provide me with the resources and opportunities to excel both academically and athletically, ultimately helping me achieve my goals of earning a college degree and contributing to my team's success. It's a crucial stepping stone in my journey towards becoming the best version of myself on and off the soccer field.

My name is Corey James. I am a motivated, ambitious individual who is passionate about sports and continually seeks to make a difference through my chosen field. In my early career in sports management, I will be ready to plan and execute a project that tackles the issue of limited access to sports opportunities for underprivileged youth Recognizing the power sports have when it comes to discipline, teamwork, and personal growth, I can clearly picture a community sports program whose main objective is to provide affordable and inclusive athletic activities. This establishment would involve collaboration with local schools and community centers to identify some of the local youth who face economic barriers when it comes to participating in organized sports. By the use of sponsorships and donations, I plan to offer scholarships, ensuring that financial issues do not hurt these amazing athletes from joining teams or attending sports camps. Additionally, I plan to organize regular sports clinics led by experienced coaches, in order to ensure optimal skill development and coaching. This project is looking to create a sense of community and empowerment. Through collaborations with local businesses, we can organize events that celebrate achievements, encourage community engagement, and promote a safe space of support for young athletes. Measuring success will involve tracking participants' progress in academics, personal development, and, of course, sports performance. I believe that by breaking down financial barriers and providing assistance, this project can empower the next generation, passing down values that go beyond the playing field. This plan aligns perfectly with my passion for sports and my desire to contribute positively to society by addressing this very important issue. By creating an environment full of inclusivity and providing opportunities, this sports management proposal seeks to create a lasting impact on the lives of young individuals, promoting not only physical well-being but also personal and community development. Recognizing the power sports have when it comes to discipline, teamwork, and personal growth, I picture a community sports program whose main objective is to provide affordable and inclusive athletic activities for all. In conclusion, I am excited about the journey ahead and the impact I will make in my community. I am confident that with the assistance provided by this scholarship, I will not only be relieved of some financial burdens but also be empowered to focus more on my classes and my career goals. I am sincerely grateful to have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship and for your consideration of my application.

The day of tryouts, delayed by rain, happened to go smoothly. My performance was peak, and I was brought up to the first team. Seeing the change in the overall pace of the game was a definite wake-up call. My first glimpse of the ball at my feet was stripped from me shortly after. Repeatedly losing the ball is very stress-inducing; however, I couldn’t allow myself to surrender to the pressure. The possibility of playing alongside some of the top players in our region was enticing. The coach started to notice my slight improvements every practice and decided to place me on the roster for an upcoming game. For the first time, I felt as if I was an important piece in this team’s success. I only played for 30 minutes; however, I was able to take critical chances and have quite an impact on the game. Coming back from injury was a tough time, although I came back twice the player I was before. I knew this was a second chance, another chance to impress the first-team coaches and get back my starting spot on the starting lineup. Breaking tackles, dribbling through 3-4 players, shooting on point; it was as if I hadn’t been injured at all.. The manager pulled me out of practice and let me know he wanted me on the 1st team for the rest of the year and saw me getting quality playing time.

When I was a child, my dad took me to St. Lucia. My dad was born there, and this was the first time I was going back with him. First, I saw palm trees and old taxi cabs, and the smell of the beach seemed to linger. The houses were painted bright colors with some using huge tarps as makeshift roofs. I was thinking, "What has my dad gotten me into?” I stayed for a week and met many people living with far less than I did. Despite this, they were all happy and shared whatever they had. I learned that we are all people with the same aspirations, and desires to get a good education. In St. Lucia time seemed to flow. I learned to prioritize family more. I engaged with people from diverse backgrounds, both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, I placed more importance on relationships, and the community. I became more involved in extracurricular activities that involved teamwork and a sense of bonding. This ultimately improved my personal development and allowed me to thrive in my educational studies.

My name is Corey James, a rising freshman at Howard University. This scholarship is especially appealing as it allows me to combine my academic interests with my personal love for films–a unique combination that, I believe, positions me favorably for this opportunity. Amongst many films I hold in high regard, it's the sports drama, "Coach Carter," that stands out most for me. "Coach Carter" is a powerfully poignant movie, based on the real-life story of a basketball coach, who through fortitude and belief, reformed the tumultuous lives of his team players. It mirrors how discipline, support, and education can transform lives even in the most challenging circumstances. I am particularly drawn to this film because it thoughtfully interweaves sports with life's realities; here, basketball is not just a game but a pathway to potential and purpose. As an African American, I am inspired by Coach Carter's dedication, resilience, and triumph against adversity. I see parts of me in the players. The struggles they face are real and mirror the experiences of many young Black men who desire a chance at education, opportunities, and a prosperous life. Coach Carter inspires me by leveraging the power of sports in imparting life skills, a principle I aspire to master and implement as a Sports Management major. Studying at Howard University has long been a goal of mine primarily for its commitment to maintaining an environment of diversity, leadership, and academic excellence. I foresee the knowledge and skills obtained from my degree contributing significantly towards my career goal – positively impacting the lives of others through sports, just like Coach Carter. Thus, to me, "Coach Carter" is not just a movie, but a testimonial of how sports can positively impact lives when coupled with the right mentorship and resources. I am looking forward to bringing this perspective to bear in my studies and future career. As a child, I received a simple yet memorable gift from my mother that held more importance than its look. It was a hair tie. It wasn't just any hair tie; it was a symbol of love and care. My mother, who always paid attention to the little details that make childhood memorable, chose this hair tie to bring meaning into my everyday life. It served as a constant reminder of her thoughtfulness. Over time, the hair tie became a companion in several events in my life, through ups and downs. Its elasticity mirrored the flexibility of my childhood dreams, adapting to the twists and turns of my growing years. As I look back, that seemingly ordinary hair tie transformed into a symbol of memories. It witnessed the laughter, tears, and successes of my early years, quietly lying upon my wrist while symbolizing the unbreakable bond between a mother and her son. My Mother has been my main source of inspiration throughout my life, shaping my values, promoting a strong work ethic, and teaching important life lessons. Her influence on me cannot be measured. One of the most enduring lessons my mom taught me is the importance of hard work. From a young age, I observed her relentless commitment to her profession, witnessing the long hours and dedication she poured into his work. Her work ethic became a silent but powerful motivator, urging me to approach every task with confidence and perseverance. Whether it was school assignments or extracurricular activities, I carried with me the understanding that success is another product of effort and dedication. Beyond work, my mom demonstrated the importance of persistence when faced with a challenge. Life inevitably presents challenges, but her ability to overcome them with sheer determination left a mark on me. She taught me that setbacks are not roadblocks but rather growth opportunities, encouraging me to confront difficulties with a positive mindset and a determination to become. Another aspect my mother has taught me is Compassion. Her unwavering kindness and empathy towards others, whether friends, family, or strangers, set a compassionate standard that I strive to continue as well. Through her actions, she showed me that true strength lies not in dominance but in compassion and that a helping hand extended to others can make a lasting impact on their lives. My Mother has been a pillar of support. She provided a safe and nurturing environment where I felt encouraged to explore my interests, express my thoughts, and pursue my dreams. Her belief in my abilities, even when I doubted myself, fueled my self-confidence and motivated me to push beyond my limits. This support was not just about words, it was shown through the countless sacrifices she made to ensure my well-being and success. As I reflect on the number of ways my mother has inspired me, I see a collection of qualities that have shaped my character and influenced my journey. Her legacy extends beyond the stories and memories.

This connection has not only improved my social skills but also ingrained in me a deep understanding of the importance of cooperation. These skills were proven to be very effective in group projects. I would undoubtedly connect these skills to have contributed to my success in group project efforts. Sports have taught me the significance of time management and discipline. Balancing tiring training schedules and academic responsibilities forced me to prioritize and manage my time efficiently. Being able to efficiently manage my time will help me down the road when it's time to commit to a career. Meeting deadlines and managing multiple tasks are essential parts of excelling in a career. The perseverance and dedication required to excel in sports have also nurtured a strong work ethic that will undoubtedly set me apart from others as I pursue my career goals. Participating in sports has enhanced my ability to not succumb to pressure and properly deal with setbacks such as a broken ankle that took me out for 6 months right before my junior year at the height of college recruitment. Facing these challenges as well as those on the field, such as tough opponents or unexpected losses, has taught me to remain calm under pressure and maintain focus. The ability to resist pressure is extremely beneficial, as I try to find my way through the ups and downs of physical therapy. Furthermore, sports have provided me with this sense of self-confidence and a strong belief in my capabilities. Ultimately, combining management and physical therapy will give me an effective skill set that can lead to several career opportunities in healthcare management, rehabilitation services, or even entrepreneurship in the healthcare industry.

My name is Corey James. I am a motivated, ambitious individual who is passionate about sports and continually seeks to make a difference through my chosen field. In my early career in sports management, I will be ready to plan and execute a project that tackles the issue of limited access to sports opportunities for underprivileged youth. Recognizing the power sports have when it comes to discipline, teamwork, and personal growth, I can clearly picture a community sports program whose main objective is to provide affordable and inclusive athletic activities. Receiving this scholarship would be a dream come true. It would alleviate the financial burden on my family and allow me to pursue my education while continuing to play the sport I love at a competitive level. "The Journey Begins: Navigating the Unknown" As I make the transition from high school to whatever comes next, I feel like I'm stepping into a whole new world, like that feeling when you're about to explore a new game or dive into a book you've never read. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend and hello to a new one, but not knowing if we'll get along right away. Life is all about taking risks, embracing the unknown, and seeing where the journey takes you. , therefore I am ready to start this new chapter with an open heart and a curious mind, ready to tackle whatever challenges and surprises that come my way.

The day of the playoff game had finally arrived, and I couldn't quite ignore the knots in my stomach as I stood facing the edge of the soccer field. My heart pounded rapidly in my chest, and my mind raced with worries about what might or could happen if I couldn't overcome my anxiety. This was it, the chance to secure our spot in the round of 16 of the ECNL Playoffs. As the referee blew the whistle to start the game, my mind went blank, and I felt this surge of panic. I knew I had to shake off the nerves, but it was easier said than done. I took a deep breath, trying to center myself, but my body felt tense, and my legs felt like lead. The first few minutes of the game were a blur. I was on autopilot, going through the motions, but my mind was far from focused. My teammates called for passes, but I hesitated, second-guessing myself at every turn. I could sense their frustration, and it only added to the weight on my shoulders. During a water break, my coach pulled me aside. "I've seen you play with passion and skill. Trust in yourself and the hours of practice you've put in." His words resonated with me. Practicing my deep breaths I was able to intensify my focus, but the anxiety was still gnawing at my confidence. However, there was no time to dwell on it. The second half had begun, and we were locked in a tie with the opposing team. As I received the ball, my mind began to race again. Doubt and fear crept in, threatening to overwhelm me. I took a deep breath and reminded myself that this was just another game, and I had the support of my teammates. I blocked out all the distractions surrounding me and focused on the task at hand. With newfound determination, I started to push past the anxiety. I focused on the feel of the ball at my feet, the rhythm of my breathing, and the cheers of the crowd. I took into thought, that I wasn’t the only one experiencing performance-related anxiety. Slowly, I began to find my flow, dodging defenders and making decisive passes. I found that keeping my mind clear and understanding that mistakes are a part of life, has seemed to keep my anxiety at bay. The remaining minutes of the game were a test of nerves, but my anxiety had faded into the background. I played with determination and grit, knowing that I had already overcome one of the toughest opponents, myself. As the final whistle blew, we couldn’t reach the desired result we wanted, although the relief had washed over me, and I realized that my anxiety had not gotten the best of me. I finally grasped the concept that mistakes are part of the game and what I imagine is 10 times worse than what reality has planned for me. It had merely been a temporary obstacle, one that I had faced head-on and conquered. From that moment on, I carried the knowledge that I could overcome anxiety and thrive on the soccer field. This solution has helped me across the board from academics to athletics. Anxiety comes in various forms. It wasn't an easy journey, but the experience taught me the power of self-belief, the support of my team, and the strength to push through even in the face of fear. With this newfound confidence, I knew I could face any challenge that lay ahead.

My name is Corey James. I am a driven and ambitious senior in high school, I am on a mission to achieve excellence in both soccer and academics. Fueling my journey is an immense passion for the beautiful game and an equally passionate commitment to my academic pursuits. Being a student-athlete has taught me the importance of time management, resilience, and maintaining a strong work ethic. Balancing rigorous academics with the demands of soccer has not only improved my organizational skills but has also gifted me the ability to perform under pressure and enhance my time management skills. I am proud of my academic achievements, and I see each academic challenge as an opportunity for growth. As I come around to the last semester of my senior year, I am excited about the idea of mixing my passion for soccer with my commitment to academic excellence. This mix of athleticism and brainpower is where I thrive, and I am confident that the skills I learned on the field will translate smoothly into success in the classroom and beyond. My journey is not just about personal success. It's about contributing to a lifetime of hard work, perseverance, and a relentless chase of my dreams. With my eyes set on both athletic and academic achievement, I am ready to embrace the challenges ahead and excel not only as a standout player but also as a well-rounded individual prepared for the opportunities and responsibilities that await me in the future. In soccer there are many instances where adversity is needed/required. Adversity isn’t something people are born with. It is rather a product of struggle and a positive mindset. For me, a broken ankle as a result of a poorly timed tackle led to me being sidelined for 8 months. Coming back from injury was a tough time, although I came back twice the player I was before. Luckily, my ankle was stable enough without surgery making it easier to recover.

During my sophomore year of high school, I once found myself in a hilariously awkward situation during a class presentation. I hate presenting in front of people, especially in front of high schoolers who still haven’t seemed to mature. The smallest mistakes could ruin your reputation for the rest of the semester. The project was a small icebreaker, as we just switched classes and the new marking period began. It wasn’t too difficult and didn’t ask for much. Just basic information including where you were born, your age, what your favorite thing to do is, etc. I never understood icebreakers. The idea of introducing myself to people I had no intention of talking to didn’t make sense to me. Everybody dreads them and makes it very noticeable, although the teachers can’t seem to read the room. I decided to use Google Slides to present my information, due to the fact this is the software I have the most expertise with. The project was rushed, I admit, and the consequences were hefty. Nervously standing at the front of the class, I began my presentation. Everything was going surprisingly well until I reached one particular slide. The slide was about soccer, and there was quite literally nothing that could have gone wrong, right? Wrong. Trying to be as fast as possible, I quickly skimmed over the words and didn’t pay attention to the pictures I used for the slides. The pictures I have saved to my computer usually aren’t labeled and are easy to get mixed up. I ended up accidentally diving into my middle school photos folder that I should have deleted the same day I made it. In middle school, I was given a phone with no internet so the only options I had were to call and take photos/videos. As a kid who is fresh into technology, you tend to be quite experimental. I was too experimental. I took videos and photos of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. From embarrassing photos to several recordings of me trying to become an influencer, you name it. This folder would be the first thing someone would go to when they are looking to blackmail me. I did it to myself. Somehow, I accidentally clicked into this folder by accident and took the most recent picture thinking it was a more relevant picture relating to soccer. Instead, I chose one of my “influencer” pictures. I don’t even remember taking the picture, but to put it into perspective, it was a close-up picture of my face with a number of different filters plastered onto it. That wasn’t the worst part, I was making this sort of face that was relevant to the time I took it. You can imagine. The fact that it had nothing to do with soccer whatsoever, really made matters worse. I had no control over the slides, due to the fact my teacher had my computer. Despite the embarrassment, I gathered myself and tried to save my presentation to the best of my ability. However, the laughter continued, and even the teacher couldn't hold back a smile. I decided to play along, jokingly claiming that it was an accident and I didn’t even remember taking it. From that point on, there wasn’t a day where I wasn’t reminded by my classmates. Unfortunately, It became my trademark. Life has its different ways of humbling you, and this just happened to be one of them.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship

Engaging in the community service has been an eye-opening journey for me as it has shaped my perspective on the world and emphasized the importance of giving back. While I dedicate my time and energy to making a positive impact, the experience improves the quality of my life in some amazing ways. It has taught me the importance of modesty, thankfulness, and the impact that collective efforts can have. Through community service, I've discovered that giving back is not just a good deed; it is a pathway to personal fulfillment and a cornerstone for building a compassionate and thriving community. It brings a new level of understanding and respect between people I would have never met before. Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
My name is Corey James, a rising freshman at Howard University, and I am submitting this essay in enthusiastic pursuit of the Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship. I am passionate about bridging education and sports to create cohesive, empowering communities. I plan to major in Sports Management, a choice deeply tied to my personal history, future goals, and the desire to advance representation in my field. Over the years, I've come to realize how sports and education often intersect, and I am excited to merge these two passions to make substantial contributions to my community. Sports offer life skills not always taught in classrooms, such as teamwork, resilience, strategic thinking, and leadership—skills that can help students reach their fullest potential, both academically and personally. However, I've observed a significant disparity in representation and opportunities within the sports industry, particularly for Black and African American people. As a Black man, I firmly believe in the importance of representation in every professional arena. In the sports industry, the lack of diversity in managerial roles can adversely influence policies, practices, and performance of athletes—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Hence, I have chosen Sports Management as my major with the aim to further diversity, inclusivity, and equal opportunity. I bring with me to Howard University a commitment to service and excellence, as exemplified by my high school GPA of 3.83. I understand this scholarship is not just financial support, but a validation and recognition of my values, aspirations, and efforts. I will carry this responsibility throughout my undergraduate studies, and beyond. Moreover, I aim to use my expertise in Sports Management to create long-lasting, systemic, and positive change in my community. Creating spaces where young athletes, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, receive the support and mentorship they need is my ultimate objective. Furthermore, attending an HBCU like Howard not only provides an enriching academic experience with strong cultural significance, but it also underlines my desire to advance racial equality and representation. Howard's legacy is one that inspires and motivates me to leverage my education to uplift my community, and receiving the Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in achieving these character-forming goals. In closing, I am eager to effect change in the sports industry, strengthen the ties between education and sports and represent my race with pride. I'm poised to bring my dedication, determination, and inspiration from my personal experience to this new chapter of my life. I sincerely believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities positively, hoping that you put your trust in me to be a worthy recipient of the Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship.

    Redefining Victory Scholarship
In the name of ambition and goals, I, Corey James, a rising college freshman at Howard University, am prepared to embark on my journey in the world of sports management. I am thrilled to participate in the Redefining Victory Scholarship, which not only coincides with my academic interest but also presents an opportunity to share my perspective on how sports, when combined with sound management, drives individual and collective progress. Coming from a modest background, I have always held the belief that education is a crucial stepping stone towards personal development. With a high school GPA of 3.83, I have consistently strived to balance my academics with my growing interest in sports. This immersion in both worlds has played a significant role in shaping my major at Howard University: Sports Management. I perceive sports as a universal language capable of breaking barriers, having the potential to endorse diversity and catalyze change. Indeed, I find pride in identifying as a young, black Caribbean man in this rapidly-evolving society. I believe in utilizing this position as an opportunity to employ sports as an amplifier to showcase the beauty of my heritage, thus bridging the racial and social gap that the narrative of sports often possesses. However, the potential of sports often lies untapped, primarily due to subpar management. Excellent sports management is the backbone that allows players to display their skills, fans to revel in the spirit of the game, and businesses to harmonize the industry's commercial aspects. The role of sports management therefore, is pivotal in setting a stage where talent thrives, passion is ignited, and societal transformation happens. Being a sports management major represents my commitment to illuminating this synergy between sports and management, and my desire to contribute to this field. Being a part of the Redefining Victory Scholarship personifies this intersection. Just as sports and management do, writing serves as a connection between me and the world, allowing me to express my thoughts freely while reaching out to diverse readers. Participating in this scholarship thus symbolizes the merger of three profound interests - sports, management, and writing. Moreover, earning this scholarship would provide much-needed financial assistance, enabling me to continue my academic journey without undue financial burden. It would serve as a reminder that my dedication and hard work are making a difference, not only in my life but also within the larger narrative of black scholarship recipients. In conclusion, I am not merely an aspiring sports manager; I am an advocate for the powerful intersection of sports and societal change. My goal is to harness the power of sports to facilitate inclusivity and amplify voices that often go unheard. In this context, the Refining Victory Scholarship is more than a scholarship; it is a platform for me to articulate my vision for the future of sports and society. Should it be my honor to receive this scholarship, it will serve as a stepping-stone toward making my dream a reality. I am excited about the prospect of leveraging my passion for sports management to transform societies, starting with my very own community.
    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship

My father has been my main source of inspiration throughout my life, shaping my values, promoting a strong work ethic, and teaching important life lessons. His influence on me cannot be measured. One of the most enduring lessons my dad taught me is the importance of hard work. From a young age, I observed his relentless commitment to his profession, witnessing the long hours and dedication he poured into his work. His work ethic became a silent but powerful motivator, urging me to approach every task with confidence and perseverance. Whether it was school assignments or extracurricular activities, I carried with me the understanding that success is other product of effort and dedication. Beyond work, my dad demonstrated the importance of persistence when faced with a challenge. Life inevitably presents challenges, but his ability to overcome them with sheer determination left an mark on me. He taught me that setbacks are not roadblocks but rather opportunities for growth, encouraging me to confront difficulties with a positive mindset and a determination to become. My father, unfortunately, was in a car crash that ultimately changed the course of his life. He was told he wouldn’t be able to walk again, but wasn’t going to let those words take advantage of him. In the aftermath of the car crash, my dad faced a journey of recovery that would test his resilience and determination. The accident had left its mark both physically and emotionally, but my father approached the challenges that lay ahead with a quiet strength that inspired everyone around him. Physically, the recovery process was insanely difficult. Fractured bones and injuries needing surgeries, followed by a tough regimen of physical therapy that required patience and commitment. Each small step forward, from the first movement to the gradual regaining of strength had become small victories. Through the pain and discomfort, my dad pressed on, motivated by the desire to reclaim the mobility that the accident had momentarily taken away. Emotionally, the trauma lingered, casting shadows that extended beyond the visible scars. Yet, my dad faced this aspect of recovery with the same drive that defined him. His determination to not let the accident define him fueled a remarkable transformation. In the face of adversity, he found strength in the support of those around him. He was able to walk again but hasn’t fully recovered. His battle does not go unnoticed. Another aspect my father has taught me is, Compassion. His unwavering kindness and empathy towards others, whether friends, family, or strangers, set a compassionate standard that I strive to continue as well.. Through his actions, he showed me that true strength lies not in dominance but in compassion, and that a helping hand extended to others can make a lasting impact on their lives. My father has been a pillar of unwavering support. He provided a safe and nurturing environment where I felt encouraged to explore my interests, express my thoughts, and pursue my dreams. His belief in my abilities, even when I doubted myself, fueled my self-confidence and motivated me to push beyond my limits. This support was not just about words, it was shown through the countless sacrifices he made to ensure my well-being and success. As I reflect on the number of ways my dad has inspired me, I see a collection of qualities that have shaped my character and influenced my journey. His legacy extends beyond the stories and memories. Through his actions and his words, my father has been a guiding force, shaping not only the person I am today but also the person I aspire to become.

Colby R. Eggleston and Kyla Lee Entrepreneurship Award
In conclusion, starting a community-focused bookstore and cafe as a high schooler involves understanding the needs of the local community, creating a welcoming space, and actively engaging with both physical and online platforms.. As a high school entrepreneur, I believe in the power of this small business, and its ability to transform this community.

    Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
I firmly believe that Minecraft is a perfect example of how such a simple video game can be used as a powerful tool for learning, creativity, and skill development. Minecraft is a well-known video game that allows its players to build, explore, and survive in a blocky, pixelated world. What makes it special is its potential as an educational platform, building skills that go well beyond the game itself. From my own experiences, while playing, it is clear that Minecraft can positively influence educational and career outcomes. Firstly, Minecraft encourages creativity and problem-solving in a virtual environment. The game's nature provides an area for players to express their imagination and build detailed and intricate structures. Whether it's recreating historical landmarks, designing intricate Redstone contraptions, or building entire cities, Minecraft encourages a creative mindset. This ability to visualize, plan, and carry out ideas is directly related to real-world scenarios, which ultimately enhances critical thinking. Minecraft is an excellent platform for collaborative learning. Multiplayer modes allow individuals to work together on projects, promoting teamwork and communication skills. I have witnessed firsthand how the efforts of teamwork within the game translate to effective collaboration in educational settings. In terms of education, Minecraft has been showcased in classrooms around the world. Teachers are showing the game to their students to teach subjects from history to math. The game's use of Redstone is related to and simulates electrical circuits, and introduces players to basic engineering principles. This hands-on approach to learning allows a player to gain a better understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts, breeding an opportunity for potential career paths in these fields. I have seen how students who play and engage with Minecraft in an educational environment develop quite an interest in STEM subjects, which can seriously impact their academic and professional paths. Additionally, Minecraft promotes digital learning and the advancement/development of technology. As players get used to the game, they become familiar with several digital tools. This kind of experience with technology is an important skill in today's world and can improve a person's chances of being employed. Many jobs and careers now require a certain level of technological ability, and this sort of exposure through gaming can be the key to developing these skills. Beyond the classroom, Minecraft has brought in and developed a community of content creators and entrepreneurs. The game's modding community, where players create and share modifications to the game, shows how Minecraft can be an important platform specialized for individuals interested in programming and game design. Through experimenting with mods, players develop coding skills, potentially establishing an interest in pursuing computer science or a related field in their academic and professional career paths. In conclusion, my experiences with Minecraft have convinced me that its positive influence on education and career development cannot be overlooked. The game's ability to promote creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and technological excellence makes it a valuable tool for preparing individuals for success in this rapidly evolving world.
