Losing the person who raised me changed my life in ways I’m still learning to understand. My mom wasn’t able to raise me, so my grandmother stepped in and became everything I needed my parent, my support system, and my foundation. She didn’t just take care of me; she shaped who I am today. When she passed away from cancer, I didn’t just lose a grandparent I lost the person who had been there for me through everything.
My grandmother was one of the strongest people I have ever known. She carried responsibilities that weren’t originally hers without ever complaining. She made sure I had a roof over my head, food to eat, and guidance when I needed it most. Even when things weren’t easy, she never let me feel like I was alone. Watching her handle life with strength and patience taught me what resilience really looks like.
When she got sick, everything started to change. Seeing someone so strong battle cancer was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. There were moments when I felt helpless, not knowing how to fix something that was out of my control. But even during her illness, she remained strong for me. That strength stayed with me even after she passed.
After losing her, I had to grow up quickly. I didn’t have the same support system anymore, and I had to learn how to navigate life on my own in many ways. The loss affected me emotionally, mentally, and financially. There were times when it felt overwhelming trying to balance school, responsibilities, and the weight of everything I had been through. But instead of letting it stop me, I used it as motivation.
Her impact on my life is the reason I continue to push forward today. I carry the lessons she taught me in everything I do work ethic, responsibility, and perseverance. As a student in trade school studying electrical work, I stay focused because I know she would want me to build a stable and successful future. I remind myself that everything I’m working toward is not just for me, but to honor everything she did for me.
Losing her also gave me a deeper understanding of responsibility and independence. I learned how to keep going even when life feels unfair. I learned how to stay focused on my goals even when I don’t feel motivated. Most importantly, I learned that strength isn’t about never struggling it’s about continuing to move forward despite the struggle.
My goal is to build a career in the electrical field and eventually create a better life for myself and those around me. I want to reach a point where I can give back and support others the way my grandmother supported me. Her sacrifice and love are the reasons I refuse to give up.
Although she is no longer here physically, her influence is still a part of me every day. Everything I achieve will be because of the foundation she built for me. Losing her was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through, but it also shaped me into someone who is determined, resilient, and focused on building a better future.
I don’t just carry her memory; I carry her strength.
Ruthie Brown Scholarship
Education is an investment in my future, but it is also a financial challenge that I have had to approach with intention, discipline, and planning. As a student pursuing a career in the electrical field, I understand that student loan debt can either be a steppingstone or a setback depending on how it is managed. Because of this, I have made it a priority to take control of my financial future by combining smart decision making, hard work, and long-term planning to minimize and eventually eliminate my student debt.
One of the main ways I am addressing my current and future student loan debt is by working while attending school. Balancing work and education are not always easy, but it has taught me responsibility and time management. Every paycheck I earn is not just income it is a tool that helps me reduce how much I need to borrow. By contributing to my expenses now, I am actively lowering the financial burden I will face after graduation. This mindset has helped me stay focused, knowing that every hour I work today is saving me from stress in the future.
In addition to working, I am committed to applying for scholarships like this one to reduce my reliance on loans. Scholarships are more than financial assistance; they represent opportunity and support for students like me who are determined to succeed despite financial challenges. I take the time to apply because I understand that every dollar awarded is a dollar I do not have to repay with interest. This proactive approach reflects my commitment to graduating with as little debt as possible.
I am also focused on choosing a career path that offers strong financial stability and growth. The electrical trade is not only in demand, but it also provides opportunities for advancement and entrepreneurship. After completing my training, I plan to enter the workforce as a skilled electrician, where I can earn a steady income and begin paying down any remaining debt immediately. My long-term goal is to eventually start my own electrical business, which will give me greater control over my income and financial future. Entrepreneurship will allow me to build wealth, create opportunities for others, and ensure that I am not limited by financial constraints.
Budgeting and financial discipline are also key parts of my plan. I am learning how to manage my money wisely by prioritizing needs over wants and avoiding unnecessary expenses. By maintaining a clear budget, I can allocate money toward tuition, tools, and savings while staying on track with my financial goals. This level of discipline is something I know will benefit me long after I complete my education.
As a BIPOC student, I am aware of the financial barriers that often make higher education more difficult to access and complete. This reality motivates me even more to stay focused and intentional about my financial decisions. I am determined not only to succeed for myself, but also to set an example for others in my community who may face similar challenges. I want to show that with the right mindset and strategy, it is possible to overcome financial obstacles and build a successful future.
Ultimately, addressing student loan debt is not just about paying it off it is about building a foundation for long-term stability and success. Through working, applying for scholarships, choosing a strong career path, and practicing financial discipline, I am taking the necessary steps to ensure that my education becomes an asset, not a burden.
Dick Loges Veteran Entrepreneur Scholarship
Growing up, I didn’t just hear about discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance I saw it lived out every day through my parent. As a veteran and an entrepreneur, they showed me what it truly means to commit to something bigger than yourself. Their journey has shaped not only the way I view success, but also the path I am taking in my own educational and career goals.
My parent’s military service taught them structure, accountability, and resilience. These are qualities that carried over into their life as a business owner. Watching them transition from serving their country to building something of their own showed me that success is not given it is earned through consistency and determination. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, when business was slow or obstacles came up, but quitting was never an option. That mindset stuck with me.
As a trade school student studying electrical engineering, I apply those same values to my education. This field requires focus, problem solving, and attention to detail, and I approach it with the same discipline my parent used in the military. Whether I’m learning new wiring systems or troubleshooting electrical issues, I remind myself that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. My parent’s journey has shown me that skills are built over time, and mastery comes from putting in the work every day.
Entrepreneurship has also influenced how I see my future. I don’t just want a job I want to build something meaningful. Watching my parent run a business has inspired me to think about owning my own electrical business one day. I’ve learned that being an entrepreneur is not just about making money; it’s about creating opportunities, solving problems, and providing value to others. It’s about taking risks and believing in yourself even when the outcome is uncertain.
Their military background has also impacted my educational journey in a deeper way. It has taught me to stay focused even when things get difficult. There have been moments in school where I’ve felt challenged or overwhelmed, but I think about the sacrifices my parent made while serving. Compared to that, pushing through a tough assignment or long day of training feels manageable. Their example reminds me that growth comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Most importantly, my parent has taught me the importance of responsibility and integrity. Whether in the military, business, or everyday life, doing things the right way matters. I carry that mindset with me in everything I do, from my schoolwork to how I interact with others.
In the future, I plan to use my education and skills to build a stable career in the electrical field, while also working toward becoming a business owner. I want to create a life that reflects the same hard work and dedication that my parent has shown me. Their journey has not only inspired me it has given me a blueprint for success.
Because of them, I don’t just dream about my future. I work for it.
Second Chance Youth Scholarship
Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone gets the opportunity to learn from them and grow. To me, a second chance is more than just forgiveness it’s an opportunity to rebuild, to prove that your past does not define your future, and to become a better version of yourself. My experiences have shaped me in ways that were difficult at the time, but they have also pushed me to grow, take accountability, and focus on creating a different path for my life.
There was a time when I didn’t fully understand the consequences of my actions. Like many young people, I made decisions without thinking about the long-term impact they could have on my future. Being involved in situations that could have led me down the wrong path forced me to take a step back and reflect. I realized that if I continued making those same choices, I would limit my opportunities and become stuck in a cycle that would be hard to break.
That realization was my turning point. I had to be honest with myself and accept responsibility for my actions. Growth didn’t happen overnight it took time, discipline, and a commitment to change. I started focusing more on my education, surrounding myself with better influences, and thinking about what I truly wanted for my future. Instead of letting my past define me, I used it as motivation to do better.
A second chance, to me, means having the opportunity to rewrite your story. It means understanding that your mistakes are lessons, not life sentences. I’ve learned that accountability is important, but so is growth. You can acknowledge where you went wrong while still believing in your ability to move forward. That mindset has helped me become more mature, focused, and determined.
One of the biggest steps I’ve taken toward positive change is committing to my education. I’ve realized that education is one of the most powerful tools I have to build a stable and successful future. I’ve been working to stay focused, improve myself, and take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. Whether it’s putting more effort into school or setting clear goals for my future, I’ve made a conscious decision to move in a positive direction.
My goal is to continue my education and build a career that allows me to support myself and give back to my community. This scholarship would help remove some of the financial barriers that stand in the way of that goal. Instead of worrying about how I will afford school, I would be able to focus on learning, growing, and preparing for my future. I would use these funds to cover educational expenses such as tuition, books, and other necessary resources that will help me succeed.
Giving back is also important to me because I know what it feels like to need guidance and support. In the future, I want to be someone who helps others avoid the mistakes I made. Whether it’s mentoring younger students, sharing my story, or simply being a positive influence, I want to show others that change is possible. Everyone deserves someone who believes in them, especially when they’re trying to turn their life around.
A second chance is not something I take lightly. It’s something I’ve worked for, something I value, and something I will continue to build on. My past may be part of my story, but it does not control where I’m going. I am focused on growth, success, and becoming someone who not only changes their own life but also makes a difference in the lives of others.
Enders Scholarship
Growing up, loss became something I understood earlier than most. Losing a parent is not just one moment of pain it is something that follows you into everyday life. It shows up in quiet moments, in big milestones, and in the spaces where guidance and support should have been. For me, that loss shaped the way I see the world, forcing me to grow up faster and become stronger than I ever expected.
The emotions I’ve had to navigate haven’t been simple. Grief is not just sadness it’s confusion, anger, loneliness, and sometimes even guilt. There were times I felt lost, questioning why things happened the way they did and what my future would look like without that support system. But over time, I began to understand that those emotions didn’t define me they were something I had to move through, not something I had to stay stuck in.
Through this experience, I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’ve learned that I am resilient. Even when life feels overwhelming, I keep going. I’ve learned how to adapt, how to push forward when things are uncertain, and how to find motivation within myself instead of depending on others. Most importantly, I’ve learned that my story doesn’t have to end in struggle it can turn into something meaningful.
While I haven’t always had perfect coping methods, I’ve found ways to reflect and process what I’ve been through. Taking time to think, reset, and understand my emotions has helped me grow mentally. Whether it’s through quiet moments alone or simply stepping back from stressful situations, I’ve learned how important it is to take care of my mindset. Healing isn’t something that happens overnight, but I’ve realized it’s something you work toward every day.
My experiences are a big reason why I want to continue my education. I want to build a future that is stable, successful, and different from the hardships I’ve faced. College represents more than just a degree to me it represents opportunity, growth, and the chance to create a better life for myself. I want to prove that where you come from does not limit where you can go.
The biggest influences in my life have been the people who showed strength even in difficult situations. Whether it’s family members who kept going despite their struggles or individuals I’ve looked up to from a distance, they’ve shown me what perseverance really looks like. Their ability to push forward inspires me to do the same.
Losing a parent is something that will always be part of my story, but it does not define my future. Instead, it has given me a deeper sense of purpose. I am determined to turn my pain into motivation, my struggles into strength, and my experiences into something that helps me succeed. This scholarship would not only support my education, but it would also be an investment in someone who refuses to let their circumstances determine their outcome.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Understanding mental health became real to me through the challenges my family faced, not through something I learned in a classroom. Experiencing both loss and survival within my family showed me how deeply emotional struggles can affect a person’s life, even when those struggles are not always visible. These moments shaped the way I think about my goals, the way I treat others, and how I view the world around me.
One of the most difficult experiences I went through was losing my grandmother to a brain tumor. Everything happened so fast that it felt unreal. One day she was here, and the next, we were forced to accept a reality we weren’t ready for. Watching her condition decline created a heavy emotional weight on my family. Even after she passed, the impact didn’t just disappear it stayed with us in the form of grief, stress, and unanswered questions. That experience made me realize that mental and emotional pain can last long after a physical illness is gone.
At the same time, my mother was fighting her own battle. She faced cancer twice and managed to overcome it both times. While her strength was inspiring, I also saw the mental toll it took on her. There were moments of fear, doubt, and exhaustion that weren’t always spoken out loud. Seeing her push through those moments helped me understand that mental strength is not about pretending everything is okay it’s about continuing to move forward even when things feel overwhelming.
Because of these experiences, I began to see relationships differently. I learned that being there for someone is not just about showing up physically, but also emotionally. I became more intentional about checking on people, listening to them, and making sure they felt supported. My family grew closer because we had no choice but to rely on each other. That closeness taught me the importance of connection, especially during times when people are struggling internally.
These situations also changed how I see the world. I’ve come to understand that many people carry things you can’t see just by looking at them. Someone can seem completely fine on the outside while dealing with serious mental or emotional challenges on the inside. This realization made me more patient and more understanding toward others. Instead of judging or making assumptions, I try to approach people with empathy because I know how real those hidden struggles can be.
A message that reflects how I’ve learned to think during difficult times comes from the song “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar: “We gon’ be alright.” That line represents hope in situations that feel uncertain. It doesn’t mean everything is perfect it means choosing to believe that things can improve, even when it’s hard to see how. That mindset has helped me stay focused and keep pushing forward through challenges.
My goals have been shaped by everything I’ve experienced. I want to create a stable future not just for myself, but for my family as well. Going through emotional and financial hardships showed me how important it is to build security and take advantage of opportunities like education. I am committed to working toward a career that allows me to provide, grow, and give back.
In addition to my personal goals, I also want to help normalize conversations around mental health. Too often, people feel like they have to keep their struggles to themselves. I want to be part of changing that by encouraging open communication and making sure people feel comfortable speaking about what they are going through without fear of judgment.
Overall, my experiences have given me a deeper understanding of mental health and its importance. They have influenced how I treat others, how I plan for my future, and how I interpret the challenges people face every day. I have learned that strength comes in many forms, and sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is keep going, even when life feels overwhelm
Sharra Rainbolt Memorial Scholarship
Cancer has shaped my life in ways that are both painful and powerful. I have experienced it from two different sides loss and survival and those experiences have deeply influenced who I am today. My grandmother passed away from a rapidly growing brain tumor that doctors could not stop, while my mother faced cancer twice and survived both times. Watching one life end while another fought to keep going taught me lessons about strength, resilience, and appreciation that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
When my grandmother became sick, everything happened quickly. Her condition worsened at a pace that felt impossible to keep up with, and my family was left watching as something we couldn’t control took over. The doctors did everything they could, but there was no stopping the tumor. Losing her was one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever faced. It showed me how fragile life really is and how fast everything can change. That moment forced me to grow up and understand that not everything in life is guaranteed.
While I was dealing with that loss, my mother was fighting her own battles. She went through cancer not once, but twice, and each time she had to face fear, pain, and uncertainty. Watching her go through treatments and still find the strength to keep going showed me what real resilience looks like. She didn’t let cancer define her or defeat her. Instead, she kept pushing forward, staying strong for herself and for our family. Her strength became something I looked up to and something I now try to carry within myself every day.
Experiencing both loss and survival taught me lessons that go beyond what most people my age understands. I learned the importance of perseverance, even when life feels overwhelming. I learned how important it is to appreciate the people around you while you still have them. Most importantly, I learned that strength is not just about enduring pain it’s about continuing to move forward despite it.
There is a line from the song “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar that says, “We gone be alright.” That message has stayed with me because it reflects the mindset my family had to adopt during these difficult times. Even when things felt uncertain and overwhelming, we held onto hope. That belief helped us push through moments that felt impossible to overcome.
These experiences have also shaped my goals for the future. Growing up in a household that has faced both emotional and financial challenges, I understand the importance of stability and opportunity. In five years, I see myself being financially stable and able to support my family, especially after everything we’ve been through. I am pursuing my education with determination because I know it is the path that will allow me to build a better future.
Cancer impacted my family by bringing both heartbreak and strength into our lives. It took someone we loved deeply, but it also showed us the power of resilience and unity. From these experiences, I have learned to never take life for granted, to stay strong in the face of adversity, and to keep pushing forward no matter what challenges come my way. These lessons have shaped who I am today and will continue to guide me toward the future I am working to achieve.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) MOA Scholarship
There have been times where I’ve had to think about more than just school. While most students can focus only on their classes, I’ve had to think about helping my household financially and making sure things stay stable at home. That pressure doesn’t turn off when I walk into class it follows me everywhere. I found TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) during a time when I was feeling overwhelmed trying to balance school, responsibilities, and my future. Their music became something I could rely on when everything felt heavy.
What stands out to me most about being a MOA is the mindset of growth, perseverance, and staying true to yourself. Those values matter to me because I’ve had moments where it would have been easier to give up or lose focus, but I’ve learned to keep pushing forward. Being able to stay grounded and continue working toward my goals, even under pressure, is something I take pride in.
My bias is Beomgyu because of the way he brings energy and comfort at the same time. He has a way of making people laugh while still being genuine, and that balance is something I connect with. I see a lot of myself in that, especially as someone who tries to stay positive even when dealing with stress. Watching him be unapologetically himself has helped me become more confident in who I am.
One song that really connects with me is “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You).” The message of holding onto something real even when life feels chaotic reflects how I’ve felt during difficult times. There are moments where everything feels uncertain, but that song reminds me to stay focused on what matters and to keep moving forward. It gives me a sense of direction when I feel overwhelmed.
Although I haven’t had the opportunity to see TXT live in concert yet, it’s something I genuinely look forward to experiencing. Seeing how their music brings people together and creates a sense of connection is something I hope to be a part of one day. My favorite album concept is the way TXT explores youth, growth, and finding yourself, especially in albums like “The Chaos Chapter,” which reflects the confusion and pressure that can come with trying to figure out your future. That message feels very real to me.
Right now, I am working toward a future in electrical engineering because I want to build a stable life and support my family. I am currently managing my education while dealing with financial pressure, and at times it can be overwhelming trying to balance everything. This scholarship would help take some of that pressure off, allowing me to focus more on my studies instead of constantly worrying about how everything will be paid for. It would give me more time and energy to fully commit to my goals.
In the future, I want to use my education to not only support my family but also create opportunities for others and give back to my community. I want to show that even when life puts pressure on you, you can still push through and build something meaningful. TXT’s message of perseverance and growth has stayed with me, and I carry that mindset into everything I do. This opportunity would help me take another step toward becoming the person I’m working to be.
Stephan L. Daniels Lift As We Climb Scholarship
Growing up, I understood early that success is not just about where you start, but how determined you are to rise above your circumstances. Coming from a background where financial hardship has always been a reality, I learned what it means to carry responsibility at a young age. My family depends on me, and that pressure has shaped my mindset, my discipline, and ultimately my decision to pursue a career in electrical engineering.
I chose STEM because I have always been interested in how things work, especially systems that power everyday life. Electricity is something people rely on constantly, yet most don’t think about the skill and knowledge behind it. For me, electrical engineering represents more than a career it represents opportunity, stability, and the ability to build something meaningful. It is a field where I can use both my mind and my hands to solve real problems and create solutions that directly impact people’s lives.
However, my journey in STEM is not just about personal success. As a Black student pursuing a degree in this field, I am aware of the lack of representation and the barriers that exist. Many people from backgrounds like mine are not exposed to STEM opportunities early on, or they don’t see people who look like them in these spaces. That lack of representation can make it harder to believe that success in STEM is possible. I want to be part of changing that narrative.
“Lift as we climb” means that as I grow and succeed, I have a responsibility to bring others with me. In my community, I want to serve as both an example and a resource for those who are trying to find their path. I plan to mentor younger students, especially those from low-income backgrounds, and show them that pursuing a career in STEM is achievable. Sometimes, all it takes is seeing someone who made it out of a similar situation to believe you can do the same.
In addition to mentorship, I want to use my skills to give back in practical ways. Electrical work is essential, and there are many families and communities that lack access to reliable and affordable services. In the future, I hope to contribute to projects that improve infrastructure and provide support to underserved areas. Whether it’s through community work, outreach programs, or simply using my knowledge to help others, I want my education to have a real impact.
In five years, I see myself financially stable, working in my field, and continuing to grow both professionally and personally. More importantly, I see myself helping others reach that same point. Success, to me, is not just about what I achieve individually, but about how many people I can uplift along the way.
This scholarship would allow me to focus more on my education and less on the financial stress that often comes with pursuing a degree. It would be an investment not only in my future, but in the future of the people I plan to impact. I am committed to putting in the work, staying disciplined, and using every opportunity I receive to build something greater than myself.
Arin Kel Memorial Scholarship
If I could start a business with someone I’ve lost, I would build something centered around opportunity, growth, and giving back to others who come from difficult situations. Even though I have not personally lost a sibling, I understand what it feels like to carry responsibility, face hardship, and push forward despite challenges. Those experiences have shaped how I think about purpose and legacy.
The business I would create would be an electrical services and training company focused on helping young people from low-income backgrounds learn a trade and build a stable future. I chose this idea because I am pursuing a career in the electrical field myself, and I know how powerful it is to have a skill that can change your life. Not everyone grows up with access to opportunities or guidance, and I want to be part of changing that.
This business would not just provide services it would provide mentorship. Alongside electrical work, I would create a program where young people could learn hands on skills, gain real experience, and understand that they are capable of more than their circumstances might make them believe. Many people struggle not because they lack ability, but because they lack exposure and support.
If I were building this business with someone I lost, it would represent more than just success it would represent purpose. It would be a way of turning pain into something positive and making sure that someone’s life continues to have an impact. Even without that exact experience, I still carry a strong sense of responsibility to make my life meaningful, not just for myself but for others.
Coming from a background where financial hardship is real, I understand how important stability is. My goal is to create something that not only supports me and my family but also opens doors for others. I want to show people that there are paths to success that don’t require giving up on yourself or your future.
In the end, this business would stand for resilience, growth, and opportunity. It would be about building something that lasts and helping others do the same. That is the kind of impact I want to have, and the kind of legacy I want to create.
Slater Miller Memorial Scholarship
I chose to pursue a career in the electrical trade because I want a path that allows me to build a stable future while working with my hands and solving real world problems. Growing up in a household where financial hardship has always been present, I understood early that I needed a career that was both practical and dependable. Electrical work provides that opportunity. It is a skill that will always be needed, and it allows me to create a future where I can support myself and my family.
Beyond stability, I am drawn to the electrical trade because I enjoy understanding how things work. Whether it’s wiring, power systems, or troubleshooting issues, I like being able to fix problems and see the results of my work. There is something powerful about knowing that your skills directly impact people’s daily lives. Electricity is something everyone depends on and being able to contribute to that is meaningful to me.
The social cause I care most about is helping people who come from low-income backgrounds like mine. Financial struggles don’t just affect your wallet they affect your opportunities, your mindset, and sometimes your confidence in what you believe is possible. I’ve seen how hard it can be to focus on the future when you’re worried about making it through the present. That experience has shaped how I see success. For me, success is not just about what I achieve for myself, but how I can use it to help others.
As I build my career in the trades, I want to use my skills to give back to my community. This can mean helping families with basic electrical needs, supporting community projects, or mentoring younger people who are trying to find their path. A lot of people don’t realize that trades are a powerful option that can lead to financial stability and independence. I want to be someone who shows others that there is more than one way to succeed.
My background has taught me resilience, responsibility, and discipline. Knowing that my family depends on me has pushed me to stay focused even when things get difficult. I don’t take opportunities lightly because I understand what it means to not have many. That mindset is what drives me to keep improving and pushing forward toward my goals.
The legacy behind this scholarship standing up for what’s right and helping others aligns with the person I am working to become. I want to build a career that not only supports me but also allows me to make a positive impact. The electrical trade is my path to doing that. With the right support, I am confident that I can continue growing, succeed in my field, and give back in ways that truly matter.
Tammurra Hamilton Legacy Scholarship
Mental health and suicide prevention are important topics today because many people in my generation are silently struggling while trying to keep up with the pressures of life. From financial stress to family responsibilities to trying to build a future, it can feel overwhelming. A lot of people don’t speak on what they’re going through, and that silence is where the real danger begins. That is why awareness matters it reminds people they are not alone and that their life has value.
My understanding of mental health comes from my own experiences dealing with pressure and responsibility at a young age. Growing up in a household where financial hardship is a constant reality, I learned early what it feels like to carry stress that most people don’t see. Knowing that my family depends on me has pushed me to stay strong, but it has also shown me how important it is to take care of your mental well being. There have been moments where the weight of everything could have easily distracted me or caused me to lose focus, but instead, I chose to keep going and stay committed to my goals.
These experiences have shaped how I view life, relationships, and my future. I’ve learned to value resilience, discipline, and having a purpose. I also understand the importance of checking in on others, because you never truly know what someone is dealing with behind the scenes. Mental health is not always visible, but it affects how people think, act, and live their lives. Because of this, I make it a point to encourage those around me to stay focused, speak up, and not give up on themselves.
In my community, I want to be someone who helps break the stigma around mental health. Too often, people feel like they have to handle everything on their own, especially in environments where showing struggle is seen as weakness. I want to change that mindset by leading through example showing that it’s okay to go through hard times and still push forward. Whether it’s through simple conversations, being there for someone, or sharing my own experiences, I want to create an environment where people feel heard and supported.
My career path in electrical engineering is also connected to this mindset. I am working toward building a stable future not just for myself, but for my family. Stability reduces stress, and I know firsthand how much financial pressure can affect mental health. James T. Godwin Memorial Scholarship
Growing up, service was never an abstract idea in my family it was a way of life. Nearly every man in my family has served in the military, including my grandfather, a retired United States Air Force officer, and my father, who continues to serve today on active duty. Their commitment to service shaped my understanding of responsibility, discipline, and what it truly means to dedicate yourself to something greater than personal gain.
Some of my strongest memories come from listening to stories shared around the house. My grandfather loved to talk about his time in the Air Force not to boast, but to teach. He spoke about long hours, strict standards, and the importance of doing your job right even when it went unnoticed. What stood out most was his humility. He never framed his service as extraordinary; he saw it as his duty. Through his stories, I learned that character is built through consistency, not recognition.
My father carries those same values into his active-duty service. Watching him lead has taught me lessons I carry with me every day. He approaches his responsibilities with focus and accountability, understanding that people depend on him to make the right decisions. I’ve seen firsthand how much sacrifice comes with military service, but I’ve also seen the pride that comes from commitment and integrity. From him, I learned that leadership means setting an example, staying disciplined, and taking ownership of your actions.
These lessons directly influence how I approach my education and future career. I am pursuing training in the skilled trades because I believe in work that requires precision, accountability, and pride. Like military service, skilled trades demand attention to detail and respect for safety and standards. Mistakes can have serious consequences, and there is no room for shortcuts. That mindset feels familiar to me because it mirrors how I was raised.
James T. Godwin’s story resonates with me because it reflects the same values I grew up around service, ambition, and dedication to family. His life reminds me that impact is not measured only by rank or awards, but by the way someone carries themselves and influences others. Whether in uniform, in a career, or within a family, those values leave a lasting mark.
This scholarship would help me continue building a future grounded in those principles. It would allow me to focus on my education and development while honoring the legacy of military service that has shaped who I am. I am proud to come from a family that believes in service, discipline, and responsibility, and I strive every day to reflect those values in my own path forward.

Uniball's Skilled Trades Scholarship
Why I Chose to Become an Electrical Technician
The trade I’m pursuing is Electrical Technician, and I’m passionate about it because it blends problem-solving, hands-on work, and innovation. From a young age, I was curious about how things work especially anything that involved wires, lights, or batteries. I remember taking apart old electronics just to see what was inside. That curiosity evolved into a strong interest in the electrical field. As I got older, I realized how essential electrical systems are in every part of our lives homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses all depend on them to function. Becoming an Electrical Technician means becoming someone who can keep those systems running, diagnose problems when they arise, and install new technology that improves people’s everyday lives. I’m passionate about this trade because it allows me to think critically, work with my hands, and solve real-world problems that have a direct impact on others.
Plans for the Future
After completing my trade education, I plan to enter the workforce as a certified Electrical Technician and begin gaining on-the-job experience. My short-term goal is to work under experienced professionals who can help sharpen my skills in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. I want to become a well-rounded technician who can handle everything from troubleshooting to system installations and upgrades. Long-term, I’m interested in specializing in sustainable and energy-efficient systems, such as solar power and smart grid technology. I believe that the future of electrical work is closely tied to sustainability, and I want to be at the forefront of that change. Eventually, I’d also like to mentor others entering the trade, especially young people who might not realize how rewarding a skilled trade can be. I see this career not just as a job, but as a lifelong opportunity to learn, grow, and give back.
Overcoming Adversity
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was during my final year of high school. My family was going through financial hardship after my dad lost his job, and it forced me to rethink my future. College was no longer a guaranteed option, and I had to figure out how to move forward without putting a burden on my family. I took on part-time work after school and started researching affordable, career-focused alternatives. That’s when I found a local pre-apprenticeship program in electrical trades. It gave me hands-on experience, connected me with mentors, and helped me discover my passion. At times it was overwhelming balancing work, school, and training, but I stayed focused on my goals. That experience taught me discipline, determination, and how to find opportunity in the middle of a setback. It showed me that adversity can push you in the right direction if you stay committed and open to learning.
Track to the Trades
WinnerFrom a young age, I’ve always been curious about how things work, especially when it comes to electricity. I remember watching an electrician rewire part of our home after a storm had knocked out power. While most people saw a mess of wires and switches, I saw something incredible the careful skill of someone restoring power and safety to our home. That experience sparked something in me, and since then, I’ve been passionate about learning how to work with electrical systems and build a future in the trades. Today, I am pursuing a career as an Electrical Technician, and this scholarship would play a vital role in helping me achieve that goal.
My ultimate ambition is to become a licensed journeyman and, eventually, a master electrician. I want to specialize in both residential and commercial electrical systems, with a focus on smart technologies and energy efficient solutions. The field is rapidly evolving, and I’m excited about how electricians are helping shape the future through solar installations, EV charging stations, and home automation systems. As homes and businesses continue to adopt newer technologies, the demand for skilled, forward-thinking electricians is only going to grow. I want to be at the forefront of that change installing systems that not only serve people’s immediate needs but also help reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
But for me, this career is about more than just technology. It’s about purpose. I’ve seen how essential the trades are in everyday life. When the lights go out, when a building needs to be brought up to code, or when a family moves into a new home, they all rely on the skills of someone trained and qualified. That’s what I want to be: someone people can count on; someone whose work truly matters. I also want to give back by eventually mentoring apprentices and encouraging more young people to consider a career in the trades, especially those who may not think college is the only path to success.
Financially, pursuing a career in the electrical trade comes with a lot of upfront expenses. Tuition, books, certification fees, and tools all add up quickly. While I’m committed to investing in my education and training, I also work part-time to support myself, which can make it challenging to stay on track with both learning and living expenses. This scholarship would provide critical financial relief and allow me to dedicate more time to gaining hands on experience, studying for my exams, and completing the required training without the constant stress of making ends meet.
Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden but also affirm my commitment to this path. It would be a reminder that hard work is recognized and that there are people and organizations who believe in the future of the trades and in students like me. With your support, I’ll be one step closer to turning my passion for electrical work into a lifelong career. I am ready to learn, to grow, and to contribute to a trade that keeps our homes safe, our cities running, and our communities connected.
