My name is Coralise Almojera, I am a single mother to two children. My fourteen-year-old son and my nineteen-year-old daughter (cousin who I have guardianship of). I am a multi-racial woman who is a member of the Nooksack Indian Tribe located in Washington State, a descendant of the Jemez Pueblo Tribe in New Mexico, African-American, and Filipina. I value family, effective communication, treating others with respect, integrity, and compassion.
I am a highly motivated woman who has overcome adversity and is looking to obtain multiple degrees to better serve my community. I want to help myself gain necessary knowledge to advance past my current career position and to better serve my community. I also want to be an example to my children that you can achieve your goals if you work hard for them.

My name is Coralise Almojera. I am a single mother to two children. My fourteen-year-old son and my nineteen-year-old daughter (cousin whom I had taken guardianship of when she was 16). I am a member of the Nooksack Indian Tribe located in Washington State and a descendant of the Jemez Pueblo Tribe in New Mexico. I am a woman who values family, effective communication, and treating others with respect, integrity, and compassion.
In the course of my life, I have faced many obstacles and challenges. I had my son at a young age but didn’t let that stop me from graduating high school and pursuing college. I then attended college but life got in the way as it tends to sometimes and I ended up dropping out before getting a degree. I’ve also dealt with significant loss in my life and as much as it hurts, I have gathered myself and continued to try to make the most of my life to make those I lost proud.
One of the major challenges I faced was when I was in a life-threatening car accident. That changed my life as I knew it. I had to overcome many things after that. Learning to walk again, facing my fears of driving, returning to a “normal” life of work, motherhood, and family. Through it all I am trying to better myself and make the most of the life I am living and taking a chance on being back in college to pursue a degree and keep climbing up from there to see where I go and what I can achieve.
My educational goals are to gain multiple degrees in Social Work/Addiction Studies. I chose this field of study because I enjoy being able to help people and currently work for my tribe in our chemical dependency program and have been here for almost 7 years. I would love to be able to advance myself past my current position and gain more proficiency.
A scholarship would help me achieve my educational goals because it would give me the extra finances I need to better myself academically and help me become my best self by gaining education, experience, and skills. My long-term career goals would be to advance myself past my current position of Intake Specialist at my job and move forward into becoming a SUDP (Substance Use Disorder Professional). A scholarship would help me reach my goals because it gives me the chance to pursue my dreams, be well-educated, and grow within my career to better help my community.
My community involvement includes living on tribal lands and working for my community. I currently work for my Tribe and help people inside and outside our tribal community. My education would affect my local community by allowing me to utilize my awareness and skills to meet tribal needs. Providing them with an understanding, support, and resources to address the disease of addiction we face in our community. I plan to implement positive change in my community by having an open line of communication and providing them with therapies and support to address and heal from the traumas associated with adverse childhood experiences.
In conclusion, I am a highly motivated young woman who has overcome adversity and is looking to obtain multiple degrees to better serve her community. I would be honored to be granted a scholarship, which would help me to reach the goals I have set for myself. I would like to be a positive influence on my children, family, and community.
