I deserve this scholarship because my life experiences have taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to my goals. Growing up facing poverty and periods of homelessness forced me to overcome challenges that many people never encounter. Rather than allowing those circumstances to define my future, I used them as motivation to work harder and pursue my dreams with determination. What gives me an advantage over other applicants is not simply the obstacles I have faced, but the resilience and work ethic I developed because of them. I have been working hard for my goals for as long as I remember, whether it be graduating high school with a GPA of over 4.25, saving up to buy myself a car, or moving myself nearly seven hours away from the small, rural town I grew up in to attend college. I understand how much opportunity can change a person's life, and I do not take education or personal growth for granted. Every achievement I have earned has required persistence, adaptability, and a commitment to moving forward despite adversity and the stresses of the life I've lived. I am currently studying to earn a degree in animation because I am exceptionally passionate about the field and dedicated to building a career as an animator. My goal extends beyond professional success. Through storytelling and representation, I want to create work that helps foster empathy, human connection, and understanding among diverse communities. I believe animation has the power to help people feel seen, understood, and valued. This scholarship would not only help me continue my education but would also support my mission to use my skills and experiences to make a positive impact on both my community and the world. The challenges I have overcome, combined with my determination to create meaningful change through my work, make me a strong candidate for this opportunity.

As an aspiring 3D animator, I hope to use my future career to create stories and characters that reflect the diversity of the world around us. Animation has a unique ability to connect people through storytelling, allowing audiences to experience perspectives that may be very different from their own. By increasing the representation of underrepresented communities and individuals in animation, I aim to help viewers develop empathy, challenge stereotypes, and gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of others. Representation in media has a powerful impact on how people see themselves and how they understand those around them. Growing up in poverty, I rarely saw families like mine portrayed in a realistic or positive way. Many stories either ignored lower-income communities altogether or relied on inaccurate stereotypes that failed to capture the challenges and resilience of people living in those circumstances. In fact, it was common for families like my own to be represented as dirty, dangerous, and stupid/less-educated, which majorly effected my self-esteem as a teenager and young adult. Because of this lack of representation, it often felt as though my experiences were invisible or misunderstood. Few people truly understood the sacrifices my family made or the struggles we faced on a daily basis. As I grew older, I began to see more stories that included people from backgrounds similar to my own. Seeing those experiences represented on screen was meaningful because it validated feelings and struggles that had often gone unrecognized. At the same time, I noticed that broader audiences became more aware of the realities faced by lower-income families. These stories helped foster greater understanding and compassion, showing that representation can influence not only how individuals see themselves but also how society views and supports others. This experience has inspired me to pursue animation as more than just a creative career. I want to create authentic, inclusive stories that allow people from all backgrounds to feel seen, valued, and understood. Whether through characters, settings, or narratives, I hope to highlight voices and experiences that are often overlooked. By doing so, I can contribute to a creative industry that embraces diversity and encourages meaningful conversations. Ultimately, my goal is to use animation to bring people together. Through inclusive storytelling, I hope to help children and adults who may feel isolated or misunderstood recognize that their experiences matter and that they are not alone. At the same time, I want audiences to see the shared humanity that connects us all. If my work can inspire empathy, understanding, and a greater sense of belonging, then I will have made a meaningful contribution to both the animation industry and society as a whole.

Coming from a single parent household often includes struggles that not many realize. For instance, as someone who grew up living in poverty with my single mother, the financial and emotional struggles our family endured has shaped me greatly into the person I am today. Not many know what it's like to go without the basic necessities, or what it's like to have to sleep in a car because there's no where else to go. Although the stress of these experiences are ones that I still carry with me today, the connection I felt towards my family and community are ones that have reinforced my value for caring for those around me. I remember fondly all the times the small, rural town I grew up in would come together to gift my mom and our family food, clothes, and more out of the kindness of hearts. I have had to work incredibly hard to get to the same place most other college students reach easily. Financing my own college education is one that has had to become a perfect balance of managing a part-time job, while also maintaining my grades and learning as much as possible while I'm still a student. Buying a car, building a resume, and managing my credit score, bank accounts, etc. is something I have had to learn quickly to ensure that I could reach graduation without having to drop-out or end up in thousands of dollars in debt. There are times where I wish there was more I could do for my mom and my family back home. However, while the extra stresses and struggles that myself and my family have had to endure will always rest on my shoulders, this weight has also taught me the importance of hard work and a strong work ethic. I know now that I can trust myself to reach my goals and dreams, and that, with hard work, I can go anywhere. I learned a lot from how hard my mom worked to make my childhood as comfortable and safe as it could be given our situation, and these lessons have carried me to this day. As someone who has lived a life that not many get to understand or experience, I plan to pursue my goal of becoming an animator to create stories and characters that better represent the struggles and experiences that children of single parent households have to go through. I strongly believe that representation though television and film is one of the best ways to create more consideration for others, especially as it can give us a rare glimpse into a life we might not otherwise experience. Through the power of storytelling, I will grow the empathy and connection that otherwise might be lacking from our world today.

I hope that, through my work, kids and adults who often feel isolated and misunderstood can begin to understand just how connected we all truly are.
