To whom this may concern, my name is Cooper Miller, I am 17 years old, and I am writing this letter to apply for the Frantz Barron Scholarship. I live in Geneva, Nebraska, and I have been looking for college since my sophomore year of high school. I live in a group home and will attend Wayne State College in Nebraska this Winter after I leave the group home. In 2021, I went through some legal struggles, which resulted in getting myself on probation. I have changed my life around though and have been sober for over 2 years and I have made that commitment to change for me, my friends, and my family. I am going to help others in my community to make a difference throughout my town and other places as well. I am going to major in Criminal Justice. I have wanted to work as a police officer since I was in the 4th grade. I also come from a very long line of drug abuse, alcoholism, etc. from both sides of my family. I want to become a law enforcement officer because I want to change my family's future from having a bad name throughout the years and make my future family have a good name. I have worked hard over the years to try and prepare to achieve that goal by looking at online courses, taking some criminal justice classes in high school, and looking at different colleges that accept a Criminal Justice Major. I have worked hard at applying for dual credit courses at any college that accepts them. I want to help the people in my community while feeling proud that I helped make a difference for them. I will impact the lives of those in my local community by making sure that the children in the community are safe in their homes and their schools, I will keep others safe to protect myself and also others, etc. I want to help as many people as I can so they can benefit from my teachings. The people that have inspired me over the years to work in law enforcement were all of the kind police officers that were at my school every morning to keep us safe and to greet us in the morning, my Uncle Brad on my step-dads' side who has been a law enforcement officer for some time now, and finally my biological father, who died over stupid things like drugs and alcohol. That last one inspired me because it taught me that no one, including family, can make you who you are today.
