Marshall and Dorothy Smith Music Scholarship
Over the past several years, I have found myself reflecting on my journey, a path that began at age fifteen. My true passion has always been music, a constant source of solace and inspiration, a constant companion, and the one thing that has kept me grounded. Music has become my anchor and audio engineering is the path of my future. I have learned the creative artistry and technical precision to professionally record, manipulate, mix, and reproduce sound across various media platforms. My various employment history has never aligned with my passions or personality. The routines have been monotonous, and has often made me feel disconnected and further away from the things that truly made me feel alive. While I learned crucial skills, such as management, communication, and adaptability, music has always been my refuge. During tough times, music was the one thing I could turn to for comfort. At age thirteen , I taught myself to learn to play guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano. By age seventeen, I was producing music on a digital audio workstation and I continue to produce instrumentals for music. I have produced and published for other artists and my own music, playing guitar, piano, bass, drums, and vocals, in which is streamed on multiple platforms. I am currently working on completing my first album. At age 25, I have gained valuable experience, but I’m encouraging myself to invest in the things that matter to me and my future. I have been attending Ball State University to take general education requirements and other music media production courses. In my first year, I have already learned and focused on capturing performances, editing tracks, and mixing music for a commercial release. I have learned to be familiar with microphone techniques, acoustic principles, and the advanced capabilities of a digital audio workstation. My ultimate goal is to transfer to Indiana University Jacobs school of music. I know I will be offered a better education and enhance my skills in audio engineering. These new skills will help to make my music sound more professional. I will have the potential opportunity to receive an internship and obtain employment in a career that will fulfill my inspiration. Attending college at a university enables me to immerse myself in an environment, where I can focus on my studies and passion for music, to take the next step in my future. I am ready to embrace the academic rigor, the community of like-minded individuals, and the opportunities that will help me not only learn, but grow as an artist and individual.
