Bio

I am a Civil Engineering student at the University of Missouri with a strong passion for using engineering to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Growing up around engineering through my family, I developed an appreciation for how thoughtful design can solve real-world problems and improve communities. My interests include water and wastewater systems, land development, infrastructure, and accessible design. I’ve gained hands-on experience through engineering work involving AutoCAD, Civil 3D, surveying, field measurements, and wastewater projects, which has shown me how the concepts I learn in the classroom translate into the real world. I hope to become a professional engineer and eventually use my career to design safer, more efficient, and more accessible communities. I’m committed to working hard, continuing to learn, and using my education to serve others through engineering.

Christine Wilson Memorial Scholarship
My intent as a civil engineer is to design infrastructure that improves communities and has a lasting impact on the people who depend on it. I am currently studying Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri, where I have developed a strong interest in water and wastewater systems, land development, and public infrastructure. My interest in engineering has grown through hands-on experience outside the classroom. Working with an engineering firm has allowed me to gain experience with various design tools and projects. Seeing how engineers take a community’s needs and turn them into practical designs has reinforced my desire to pursue this career. I want to continue gaining experience in different areas of civil engineering so that I can become a well-rounded engineer and eventually earn my Professional Engineer license. I hope to work as a civil engineering consultant where I can help the community that raised me. I am particularly interested in water and wastewater as these systems are crucial to the public health but often go unnoticed until they fail. I also want to incorporate accessibility into my designs. As a brother of someone with access problems, I have seen first hand the impact of accessible infrastructure. Christine Wilson’s career represents the kind of engineer I hope to become. Her passion for design, commitment to helping clients, and willingness to mentor those beginning their civil engineering careers are qualities I deeply admire. I hope to follow that example by not only designing projects that improve communities, but also by helping and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
