Drug and alcohol addiction is a destructive and powerful force that can impact individuals and their loved ones in countless ways. I have had the unfortunate experience of witnessing its effects firsthand through my mother's struggle with substance abuse. After the passing of my great aunt, my mother turned to drugs and alcohol as a way of coping with her grief. This decision has had a profound impact on my life, shaping my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Growing up with a parent struggling with addiction has been an emotional rollercoaster. From the financial struggles to the constant fear of losing her, my childhood was marked by instability and uncertainty. Seeing my mother's downward spiral was both heartbreaking and terrifying, and it led me to question the value of substance abuse as a means of coping with life's difficulties. I realized that drugs and alcohol only offer temporary relief, but in the long run, they only worsen the problem and bring further suffering to those around us. This experience has instilled in me a strong belief in the importance of seeking help and support when faced with challenges, instead of turning to harmful coping mechanisms. In terms of relationships, growing up with a parent struggling with addiction has also affected the way I approach and interact with others. The trust and bond I shared with my mother were tested time and time again, and this experience has made me more cautious and guarded in my relationships. On the other hand, it has also made me more empathetic and understanding of others who may be struggling with similar issues. I have learned to be patient, supportive, and non-judgmental when it comes to those close to me who may be struggling with addiction. Finally, this experience has also influenced my career aspirations. Seeing the impact that substance abuse can have on a person's life has driven me to pursue a career in the field of addiction and mental health. I aspire to use my skills and knowledge to help others overcome their struggles with addiction and build a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones. Whether it's through counseling, therapy, or education, I am committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by addiction. In conclusion, my experience with drug and alcohol addiction has had a profound and lasting impact on my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Although it has been a difficult journey, I am grateful for the lessons and perspectives it has taught me. I hope to use my experiences to make a difference in the lives of others and break the cycle of addiction.

The universe is a vast and mysterious place, and our understanding of it is constantly evolving. We must work to better understand the nature of our universe for several reasons. Firstly, understanding the universe can give us a greater appreciation for the world around us. From the vastness of space to the smallest particles, the universe is full of incredible phenomena that can inspire awe and wonder. By learning more about these phenomena, we can deepen our understanding of the world and gain a greater appreciation for the intricacies of nature. Secondly, understanding the universe can help us answer some of the most fundamental questions about existence. Why are we here? What is the purpose of life? What is the nature of reality? These are just a few of the many questions that scientists and philosophers have been grappling with for centuries, and by continuing to advance our understanding of the universe, we may be able to come closer to finding answers. Finally, understanding the universe can have practical applications that can improve our lives. For example, by studying the nature of space and time, we can develop technologies that allow us to explore new frontiers and gain a deeper understanding of our place in the universe. By studying the structure of matter and energy, we can develop new materials and technologies that can improve our lives in countless ways. In order to better understand the nature of the universe, I hope to employ a variety of ideas and concepts. One of the key concepts I would like to explore is the nature of space and time. I am particularly interested in the relationship between these two concepts and how they affect our understanding of the universe. I would also like to explore the concept of causality and how it relates to our understanding of the universe. Another area of interest for me is the structure of matter and energy. I would like to learn more about the different particles that make up our universe and how they interact with each other. I am also interested in studying the behavior of energy in different forms and how it affects the universe as a whole. To gain a deeper understanding of the universe, I would also like to explore the nature of consciousness and how it relates to the physical world. I am interested in learning about the different theories of consciousness and how they might help us understand the nature of our universe. Finally, I would like to study the origins of the universe and how it has evolved. I am particularly interested in exploring the different theories about the origin of the universe, including the Big Bang theory and alternative theories like the steady-state model. In conclusion, understanding the nature of our universe is an important and ongoing pursuit. From inspiring wonder and appreciation to helping us answer fundamental questions about existence, and improving our lives, the benefits of exploring the universe are countless. By employing a variety of ideas and concepts, I hope to contribute to this ongoing pursuit and gain a deeper understanding of the universe and our place in it.

Dealing with the loss of my great aunt and then seeing my mom fall into substance abuse has been a challenging journey. I know that I am not alone in this experience, but sometimes it can feel that way. I have talked to my friends and family and joined a support group. Surrounding myself with a supportive network has helped me process my emotions and cope with the stress and anxiety that often accompany difficult situations. I also make sure to take care of myself during this time. I engage in self-care practices like exercise, meditation, and hobbies that bring me joy. I set boundaries and take time for myself when I need it. For my mom, I am seeking out resources and support for her. This includes therapy, rehabilitation programs, and support groups for families affected by addiction. I know that healing takes time, and it's okay to be patient with myself and my loved ones as we navigate this challenging situation. Amelia Michelle Sanford LGBTQIA+ Memorial Scholarship
As an LGBTQIA+ student, I have faced many challenges in my life that have tested my strength and resilience. Growing up in a conservative and unaccepting community in South Texas, I was constantly exposed to negative and hostile attitudes toward my identity. This made it difficult for me to feel comfortable expressing myself and being my true self. I struggled with feelings of isolation and loneliness as I struggled to find others who would accept me for who I am. My family, although supportive in their way, struggled to understand my experiences and emotions. This led me to question my own identity and to feel shame and guilt for being who I am. It was a constant battle to feel valued and seen in a world that seemed determined to erase and invalidate my existence. Despite these difficulties, I was fortunate enough to eventually find a community of friends who were supportive and accepting of my identity. This was a life-changing experience for me as it gave me a sense of belonging and validation. I no longer felt like I had to hide or apologize for who I am. Instead, I was able to freely express myself and explore my identity. This was an incredibly liberating experience and allowed me to start healing from the emotional scars of my past experiences. However, my struggles did not end there. I still face discrimination and bigotry daily, whether it be in the form of derogatory comments or acts of violence. It is a constant reminder of the hate and ignorance that still exists in our world. This can be overwhelming and exhausting at times, but I have learned to channel my emotions into activism and advocacy for my community. I believe that it is important for me to use my experiences to help others who may be struggling with similar issues. I hope to empower and inspire other LGBTQIA+ individuals to know that they are not alone and that they deserve to be respected and valued for who they are. I also aim to educate and raise awareness in my community about the experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals and the impact of discrimination and hate on our lives. In the future, I hope to continue my activism and advocacy work. I would like to study Cybersecurity and Computer science so that I can use my education and skills to make a positive impact in the world. I would also like to work with organizations that support LGBTQIA+ individuals and provide resources and support for those who may be struggling with their identity. I believe that by coming together and standing up for our rights and dignity, we can create a world that is more accepting, equitable, and just for all. I have faith that we can create a future where all individuals, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, can live freely and express themselves without fear of discrimination or violence. In conclusion, my journey as an LGBTQIA+ student has been a challenging one, but I am proud of the person I have become. I am grateful for the support and acceptance I have received from my friends and community, and I am committed to using my experiences to make a positive impact in the world. I believe that by working together, we can create a future where all individuals can live freely, express themselves, and be treated with respect and dignity.

Accurate record-keeping is essential for individuals and organizations to manage their affairs effectively. However, traditional paper-based record-keeping systems can be time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to manage. This was a problem faced by my mother who was struggling to keep track of her financial records and other important documents. To address these issues, I worked with her to create an innovative solution that would streamline the record-keeping process and improve efficiency. This essay outlines a detailed plan for implementing this solution, should I have the necessary resources and funding. Plan: Research and Development: The first step would be to conduct research and development to understand the specific needs and requirements of individuals and organizations that rely on paper-based record-keeping systems. This research would collect data on current systems, the types of records being kept, and the challenges faced. Partnership Building: To ensure the success of the solution, partnerships with organizations and individuals who would benefit from it must be established. This would involve working with these groups to understand their specific needs and developing a solution tailored to their requirements. Implementation: The next step would be to implement the solution. This would involve developing a software platform that would allow individuals and organizations to digitize their record-keeping processes and manage their records efficiently. The platform would feature document scanning and storage, data entry, search and retrieval, and reporting capabilities. Training and Support: To ensure individuals and organizations can effectively utilize the solution, training and support must be provided. This would involve providing training on how to use the platform and ongoing support to address any issues or challenges that may arise. Monitoring and Evaluation: To assess the impact of the solution and make improvements where necessary, monitoring and evaluation must be conducted. This would involve collecting data on usage and satisfaction levels and conducting regular maintenance checks to ensure the platform is functioning properly. Financial Considerations: The cost of the project would depend on the size and scope of the solution and the number of individuals and organizations it would serve. A large-scale project covering several organizations could cost several hundred thousand dollars. Funding would be secured from a variety of sources, including government grants, private sector investment, and philanthropic organizations. Conclusion: Traditional paper-based record-keeping systems can be time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to manage. The solution created by me for my mother addresses these issues by conducting research, building partnerships, implementing a software platform, providing training and support, and monitoring and evaluating the impact of the solution. With the right funding and support, this project has the potential to make a significant impact on the record-keeping processes of individuals and organizations worldwide. By reducing the time and effort required to keep records organized and accurate, individuals and organizations can focus on more important tasks and make better-informed decisions.
      Cat Zingano Overcoming Loss Scholarship
The loss of a close family member or loved one is a tragedy that leaves a profound impact on one's life. This is a moment when we realize that life is short and that we should cherish the people who are most important to us. It is a time when we begin to focus on what matters most in our lives and what we want to "fight" to achieve. For me, this realization came with the loss of my great aunt, who passed away unexpectedly. The loss of my great-aunt was a blow to our family, and it was especially hard on my mother. She turned to substance abuse as a way to cope with her grief, and I had to fight to help her overcome her addiction. This was a difficult and trying time in our family's life, but it also taught me some of the most important lessons that I have ever learned. The first lesson that I learned was the importance of family. The loss of my great-aunt made me realize just how much I loved my family and how much I would do to protect them. I saw how my mother was struggling with her addiction, and I knew that I had to do something to help her. I spent countless hours helping her to overcome her addiction, and I did it all because I loved her and I wanted her to be happy. This experience taught me that the most important thing in life is the people we love and care about and that we should fight to protect them and make sure that they are always happy and healthy. The second lesson that I learned was the importance of perseverance. The road to recovery for my mother was a long and difficult one, and there were many times when I wanted to give up. But I knew that I couldn't, because my mother needed me. I had to fight through the tough times and stay focused on the end goal, which was to help my mother overcome her addiction. This experience taught me that perseverance is key to achieving anything in life and that we should never give up, no matter how difficult the road ahead may seem. Finally, I learned the importance of having a clear vision of what we want to achieve in life. When I saw my mother struggling with her addiction, I knew that I had to do something to help her. I had to fight to achieve a life where she would never have to worry about substance abuse again. This experience taught me that having a clear vision of what we want to achieve in life is key to success and that we should always work towards our goals, no matter how difficult the road ahead may seem. In conclusion, the loss of my great aunt was a difficult and trying time in my life, but it taught me some of the most important lessons that I have ever learned. It taught me the importance of family, perseverance, and having a clear vision of what we want to achieve in life. These lessons have stayed with me, and I will continue to fight to protect my family and to achieve the life that I have always dreamed of. Life is short, and we should never take the people who are most important to us for granted. We should always cherish them and fight to make sure that they are happy and healthy.

For instance, when it comes to financial planning, I always consider the future and take steps to ensure that I am prepared for any emergencies that may arise. This has allowed me to live a stress-free life, knowing that I am prepared for anything that the future may bring. Moreover, my forward-thinking ability has also helped me to avoid making impulsive decisions. I often take the time to think through my decisions and consider the consequences of my actions before acting. This has helped me to avoid making decisions that I may later regret. For instance, when it comes to investing money, I consider the long-term potential of the investment and make a decision based on that. By doing this, I can avoid making investments that may result in losses in the future. In conclusion, my forward-thinking ability is a quality that I value the most in myself. As a senior in high school, the reality of growing up and moving toward adulthood has become increasingly apparent to me. The cost of college, with its seemingly insurmountable price tag, was a wake-up call to the challenges that lie ahead. However, in the face of these challenges, I have been able to grow in meaningful ways. Over the past year, I have come to value friendship and family support more deeply than before, and I have finally overcame my multi-year addiction to procrastination. One of the most impactful events that have contributed to my growth over the past year was my aunt's passing. This loss was compounded by my mother's decline in mental health, which was a direct result of my aunt's death. Through this experience, I learned the true value of being there for those we love, even when it is challenging. Another key factor in my personal growth over the past year has been my decision to end old rivalries and focus on cultivating positive relationships with my friends. Despite these changes, I have remained true to my core values and principles. I have always been a person who values hard work and dedication, and these values have not changed. However, I have learned to prioritize my relationships more effectively and have gained a deeper appreciation for the people in my life. In conclusion, my journey over the past year has been one of self-discovery and growth. Through the challenges that I have faced, I have come to value friendship and family support more deeply, and I have taken steps to overcome my tendency to procrastinate. Cybersecurity has always been a subject that has intrigued me. From a young age, I have always been fascinated by technology and how it works. However, it wasn't until my grandfather shared with me his experiences as a radio operator in the Vietnam War that I became truly interested in cybersecurity. My grandfather served in the Vietnam War and was tasked with the upkeeping of radios and other related electronic devices. He was responsible for maintaining and repairing the electronics that were used in the war effort. He would often share stories with me about the importance of the radio and how the technology was used to protect and inform men on the ground. These stories left a lasting impression on me and sparked my interest in technology. I started to research more about cybersecurity and found that it was a field that combined my love for technology with a passion for helping others. I learned about the various types of cyber threats and the role that cybersecurity professionals play in protecting individuals, businesses, and governments from these threats. I was fascinated by the idea that I could use my knowledge of technology to help protect others and make a difference in the world. I continued to study cybersecurity and took courses in computer science and programming. I was also active in cybersecurity competitions, which gave me hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating cyber threats. Through these experiences, I developed a deep understanding of cybersecurity and gained a strong foundation in the technical skills required to succeed in the field. My grandfather was a great role model to me, and his service in the Vietnam War taught me the importance of using technology for the greater good. I am grateful for his guidance and support, and I am inspired by his dedication to using technology to make a positive impact in the world. In conclusion, my interest in cybersecurity is rooted in my love for technology and my grandfather's stories of his service in the Vietnam War. Through my studies and experiences in cybersecurity, I have developed a deep understanding of the field and the important role that cybersecurity professionals play in protecting individuals, businesses, and governments from cyber threats. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in the field of cybersecurity and look forward to using my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the world.

The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is "The Pursuit of Happyness". The film, directed by Gabriele Muccino and starring Will Smith, tells the story of Chris Gardner, a struggling salesman who becomes homeless with his young son. Despite facing numerous obstacles, Gardner never gives up and eventually rises from homelessness to become a successful businessman. What struck me about this movie was Gardner's relentless determination and unwavering optimism in the face of adversity. Despite being faced with financial difficulties, eviction, and the loss of his job, Gardner never lost faith in himself and his son. He constantly reminded himself and his son that they are not defined by their current circumstances and that they will eventually find happiness. This movie also taught me the importance of education and perseverance. Gardner, who had no college education, spends months studying and preparing for a stockbroker licensing exam, knowing that passing it would give him a better shot at success. He demonstrates that success is not just about natural talent, but also about hard work and the willingness to keep learning and growing. Moreover, this film is a reminder of the importance of family and the love between a parent and a child. Despite the hardships Gardner and his son faced, they never lost their bond and always had each other's backs. The film shows that family is a source of strength, comfort, and support, and it highlights the power of love and sacrifice. Finally, "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a film about hope and the American Dream. It tells the story of a man who, despite facing countless obstacles, never loses faith in himself and his ability to achieve success. It reminds us that we have the power to shape our destinies and that we should never give up on our dreams, no matter how difficult they may seem. In conclusion, "The Pursuit of Happyness" has had a profound impact on my life. It has inspired me to pursue my dreams with determination and perseverance, to never give up in the face of adversity, and to always believe in the power of hope. This film alone was responsible for helping me refine my goals in life and finally decide on what I wish to pursue as a career in life. I would highly recommend this film to anyone looking for inspiration or a reminder of the strength of the human spirit.

As I sat there dumb founded realizing all that I thought I knew was wrong, one thought hit me: How? I realized this when I sat in theater class for the first time. At that time, we were talking about our privacy. I didn’t believe the statements my teacher was making, however, as he kept going on about it with facts to support his every statement, I could do nothing but believe him. Due to this one class my perception of the events around me have changed forever. I’ve learned to never take anything at face value, but to push when no one else is pushing. “Have you ever wondered about what happens around you?” My teacher asked as he began class differently from usual. Instead of waiting for our response this time, however, he began to open a PowerPoint. The contents of this power point were nothing special. Most of the slides were simple charts and one to two sentence slides. However, the main point that changed my outlook forever, was the slide about our “Cybersecurity”. We are all familiar with the most recognizable form of a cybersecurity breach – hackers. Instead, however, he. He brought to my attention an idea that had never crossed my mind before. What if our own devices are a cybersecurity breach? He first made his point by referencing google. He pointed out the obvious, such as the cookies you accept when you first visit a webpage. A cookie is a small piece of data that a website or website provider keeps for themselves to help identify your device on a network. Normally this would be efficient for the website as it allows for quick identification of you however, what happens with it later is alarming. He then brought up a graph which showed that websites make 52% of their profit from your cookies. Over half of their income is made from your information. Something as confidential as your data was being used for profit with no knowledge of the individual themself. This small realization awakened something within me – a feeling of what I should do with my life. This one 70-minute-long class manifested itself as what I would pursue in the future. I decided right then and there that I would pursue an education and career in cybersecurity. Since then, I have been studying multiple aspects of cybersecurity to better prepare myself. I have taken an AP computer science program in which it taught me how to code and debug in JavaScript – a main component of cybersecurity. However, I have not limited myself to one course, I have so far taken 1 class outside of school in order to learn Lua, another component of a cybersecurity career and I am looking for a course in python. My personal niche in cybersecurity that I wish to pursue is threat protection. That class – that experience – is the reason why I’m pursuing a degree and career in cybersecurity. By pursuing cybersecurity people who are like me, people who don’t know me, and people who are unaware will be unknowingly helped in the protection of their personal information.

      Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math because of how it changed me. At my school we take accelerated placement courses known as AP courses. Last year in eleventh grade I took AP Calculus. A very rigorous course centered around collegiate level AB calculus. At first, I hated the class, everything from the homework to our tests. I suffered for about 3 months into it when my teacher pulled me and another student out of class. I remember this talk being the turning point in this class for me. She pulled us out and told us how she knew we could do better. She told us how she saw our scores from previous years and that she thought we could do much better. When she let us go into transition, I was thinking the entire time how I could do better for myself. It wasn't necessarily about doing better at a math class but just doing better with classes in general. I went from about failing the class to either a A- or B+. I would be lying if I said math is my favorite subject or the easiest for me, but I'll always love it for getting me out of my laziness and finally got me to apply myself in subjects. Since then, I've taken a dual enrollment course with A's while applying for a stem degree at 6 colleges. Math woke me up to what I'm capable of and I'll always love it for that.

      1. More than 80% of the websites you visit are stealing your data - digitaltrends.com. About 3 years ago I remember seeing a news story on Edge about website data and Cookies. This stuck with me all the way till 10th grade when I took my first computer science class. I haven't had a lot of "clicking" moments in my life when everything fell into place, but this was one of those times. I fell in love with the class even despite covid, distance learning, and my teacher leaving halfway through the year. By the end of the year, I passed both my AP Computer Science Principles class as well as the AP test. I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life however, I had no specifics in mind. Over the next year I perfected my JavaScript I learned from that class and started to dip my toes into Lua. Since then, I've secured an internship and applied to UTSA pursuing a cybersecurity degree. I hope that this scholarship helps me pursue my degree without the worry of student debt hanging over my head. 2. My dream job after receiving my degree is a cybersecurity penetration tester. I like the idea of testing systems for issues and or defections rather than actually creating the systems. As for who or where I would like to work, Dallas Texas for the place simply because it is the cybersecurity center of the U.S. As for who, since I wish to pursue my masters after achieving my bachelors, I'm going to aim high and attempt to get a well-paid job at a security firm doing penetration testing for big businesses. 3. I'm an active, intellectual, and driven student that is always looking for new opportunities to improve my life and people’s lives around me. I've already proven my determination to pursue my education in the form of internships and scholarships. Due to my family's circumstances higher education was a pipe dream for a large majority of my life. Award me this scholarship and allow me to show you what I'm capable of - what I will do and accomplish. Let this be my first step on a long journey to becoming what I want to be.
