Bio

I'm pursuing a degree in Carpentry and Building Construction Technology. During high school I worked part-time flipping houses, followed by doing siding work, and I'm now a sales rep for a roofing company as a side hustle during college. I'm a mentor and participant in a triathlon club and play in softball and flag football leagues. I enjoy community service and building houses for the disadvantaged in Mexico.

Deciding on a path in Carpentry and Building Construction Technology has been a journey of enjoyable discovery and growth. As a student at Ranken Technical College, I have welcomed the hands-on learning and course classes in the trades. With an early background of practical experience, including two years of flipping houses, seven months of siding work, and my recent endeavor as a roofing company sales representative, I am learning about and understanding various trades and gaining confidence in my abilities. My journey in the trades is not only about improving skills; it's about the potential for growth and contribution to a high-demand industry. Carpentry and Building Construction offer a variety of opportunities for skilled professionals in a strong and evolving field. Beyond the attractiveness of job security, the entrepreneurial avenues within the trades interest me. I envision myself not only as an excellent craftsman but also someone who gives back to my community and helps tradesmen around me succeed, using my expertise to create a reputable construction business. My education will help me pursue excellence. I have seen firsthand the stark contrast between workmanship created with dedication and mastery and that which doesn't. I strongly desire to be counted among those who are known for quality work —to have my work recognized not just as a product but as a testament to the mastery of my craft. With each project I take on, I aim not only to meet expectations but to exceed them, leaving a memorable mark of quality and integrity. The path to reaching my goals has its challenges. Pursuing a college education in the trades requires dedication, financial commitment, and determination. This is why your scholarship is significant to me. It is here that the necessity of scholarships like yours comes into play. Your generous support will give me hope and confidence to complete my journey toward excellence. This scholarship will reduce the stress from how I will pay for tuition and educational expenses and allow me to invest in additional resources, and take on more opportunities to learn different skills. It will provide me with the freedom to focus on my studies and participate in community service, allowing me to maximize my potential and broaden my horizons. In conclusion, I thank you for the opportunity to share my path and plans with you. As I continue on this journey in Carpentry and Building Construction Technology, I am committed to upholding the values of diligence, integrity, and excellence that define the trades. With your support, I am confident that I will not only achieve my goals but also leave a lasting legacy of craftsmanship and innovation in the world of construction. Thank you for considering my application and for your invaluable contribution to students pursuing the trades.
Trades Make the World Go 'Round
I'm attending Ranken Technical College for an associate degree in Carpentry and Building Construction. Trade school students will find empowerment in an under-trained, understaffed industry that continues to grow and needs skilled workers. This is the future of job security. I chose the trades because I like learning hands-on, working with my hands, seeing a project through from start to finish, and approving and appreciating the final results. Carpentry gives me a variety of skill sets to use for a variety of tasks so I'm not doing the same thing every day all day. It ensures that I won't have to sit at a desk for my entire career. It is a vocation full of different aspects ensuring I find a specialty I enjoy. Having the independence to create and manage projects is appealing to me, including being a general contractor. My education is setting me up to confidently use the necessary tools and materials for the job along with techniques and problem-solving so I can work efficiently and effectively with excellence. I will have what I need for the job without wasting years and money on unnecessary subjects, so my employer doesn't find me unprepared and lacking skills. Studying the trades allows me to immediately use my skills to enter the workforce quickly. In my time working in both new construction and remodeling, I have seen work that was done by masters and work that was done by people just collecting a paycheck at the end of the week. I desire to have my work seen as the work of a master of his trade. A good contractor will never run out of customers because someone will always need their home or business worked on by a skilled craftsman. When I graduate from college, I will have my pick for an employer and be ready to put in a full day of knowledge-based, hands-on work from day one. College is setting me up to advance in opportunities and pay increases through years of service. I'll also be prepared to step out as an entrepreneur and open my own general contracting business. I aim to bring top quality to new homes and provide a realistic price for the product received. I would be pleased to serve clients, employ other skilled workers, and better my community. College will improve my professional career, personal life, and public service. Empowerment is best realized in serving others, building a network, and receiving recognition for providing a job well done.
