My education and career goal is engineering. Engineering has been my passion ever since I was 5 years old riding on an amusement ride looking at the gears trying to figure out how it all was working. I have always loved problem solving and pursing a career in engineering aligns perfectly with that. A scholarship would perfectly align with me achieving this goal. Engineering is not just a job to me, I feel like it’s a calling. The intricate blend of creativity and analytical thinking I’m engineering resonates with my soul. As a young boy I was always taking toys apart trying to figure out how they worked and how I could change them to do other things or make them work better. That is why I want to be an engineer I want to make things better for the world but improving different solutions for the best outcome. A scholarship would play a very important role in my education journey. Engineering programs often involve rigorous coursework and cutting edge technology, and the financial support from a scholarship would alleviate some of the burden of the tuition costs. This in turn would help me focus more on my studies and engage in extra curricular actives such as jazz band that would enhance my overall self. I love to play the saxophone. I started in 4th grade and have played every type there is but love the tenor the most. I hope to be able to join a jazz band while in college to continue my love for music as well as my love for engineering. The field of engineering is dynamic and constantly changing. Staying up to date or the latest advancements is crucial. With the help of a scholarship, I would be able to attend conferences, workshops, and invest in the newest software needed. The opportunities for continuous learning will equip me to be the best I can to have the knowledge and skills needed for the ever evolving landscape of the engineering field. Engineering is about solving real life problems. With the help of a scholarship I could participate in internships or hands on projects which will essentially make me valuable. Engineering is also about collaboration and interactions. With this scholarship I can join various networks, connect with people in the field, and build a mentorship. In conclusion, engineering is more than just a career for me it’s a lifelong commitment to problem solving and find solutions to make life better for people. A scholarship would not just help ease the financial burden getting into college but also open up so many more doors for educational growth and learning opportunities. Tennis has been more than just a sport for me, it has been a journey that has significantly shaped my future. Spending hours on the court have taught me some invaluable lessons I can use in life. One lesson I’ve learned is to be resilient. This sport makes you learn to bounce back from tough matches you have lost to a ball you missed. This resilience has helped me navigate challenges in my day to day life. I’ve come to understand that setbacks are not failures but more chances to improve and grow. In the competitive arena of tennis I have learned the importance of hard work and discipline. Winning in tennis isn’t a result of luck, it’s the result of constant practicing and dedication to improve no matter how long or difficult it was. I feel this will transfer into my life both and professionally. The work ethic instilled in me makes me understand that excellence is a result of continuous commitment in all aspects. Tennis has helped me stay focused and composed under pressure. Matches are intense and with every point carrying more and more significance. Learning how to control my emotions during these matches has helped my performance on the court but even more importantly I have transferred this skill across to my academic and professional life. If a situation arises in school, work, or with friends I have learned to that controlling my emotions is going to result in a successful outcome for everyone. Not only has tennis helped me as an individual but has helped me learn how important teamwork and sportsmanship is. Playing doubles requires seamless coordination and cooperation with your partner. Playing doubles has helped me learn the importance of communication and mutual support to make for an outstanding result. I know I can use this will in my life because with open communication there is never a question of what is expected of everyone involved and things can get completed quickly and effectively. As I reflect on my career in tennis, it is evident that it has made a huge impact on who I am and help me become the best version of myself from what I learned from playing tennis. Some may think tennis is just running around a court hitting a ball but I think it is much more, it has shaped who I am and will guide me on my path to success in my career and life choices.

There are many reasons why I want to purse a career in engineering. First, I really enjoy problem solving. I like to think creatively to solve complex problems and I know as an engineer I will be facing complex and challenging problems that may arise that I will need to come up with a solution. Second, I want to try and make a difference. I know engineering is about try to help or improve things for people to make life easier or better. Third, I like that this career offers a variety of options to choose from. I could be a civil, mechanical, electrical, or even aerospace engineer. I’m still trying to decide which path I am aiming for, I’m thinking civil but will make a definite decision once I learn a little more about each type. Fourth, with the constant need for new infrastructure and product development I think engineering has a strong job stability rate. Engineers are in high demand since things are constantly changing and needed updated or developed. Lastly, the field of engineering seems to be constantly changing and evolving. I feel like I will never be bored with this profession because I’ll always need to be learning new methods and techniques in this career. I’m excited to get started on learning everything I need to get started in the field. I feel my high school has helped prepare me for my future by not only giving me a strong educational background but also helped me learn how to be a leader. I am on the student council committee where I make important decisions for our senior class. I’m also a drum major for my high school marking band which helps me learn how to become a strong leader and lead the band each week at the football games. I’ve tried out and made district band twice which makes me realize if I put my mind to something I want I can work for it! I also feel that my time in high school has made me more confident in myself. This past year I have joined forensics where I am given a topic, have 15 minutes to prepare, then have to present on it. I think this will help me be a better engineer because I will be able to hear a problem and respond to it quickly with a logical solution. Lastly I have joined theater and will be in a play my senior year. I am not the most outgoing but decided this year to try out and I made a lead part. All of these experiences I feel will help me become a more confident and outspoken adult who knows how to work hard for what I want.

First I’ll tell you how I got the nickname “onion”. The reason I got this is when my little brother was about a year and a half he couldn’t say Colin. When my mom would say Colin he would try to repeat it and somehow it came out as onion. Everyone started calling me onion and my younger brother didn’t call me Colin until he was about 4 years old! I thought I would officially be onion for the rest of my life ha ha. My mom still calls me from time to time without even thinking about it. Another funny thing was when my cousin decided to give me a face mask. She told me that I needed to sit very still and she was going to put on this mask that was going to make my face super smooth and have no pimples. I was about 13 at the time so I let her convince me to do this. I sat down while she mixed together pickles, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and some other weird things from the kitchen that I can’t remember. She told me that I had to put cucumbers on my eyes so I didn’t get the mask in my eyes so I agreed. I laid on the couch while she started putting this green smelly goop all over my face. I was about to gag from the smell! She said I had to lay still for 30 minutes so it could dry. As I was laying there I kept feeling something on my face and I thought it was her moving the stuff around because when I tried to open my mouth it was going in my mouth so I couldn’t really talk. Meanwhile apparently it wasn’t her I was feeling it was her dog that was licking my face trying to get the stuff off my face. When my cousin came back into the room she yelled at the dog to get off the couch and put more of the goop on my face. I was really getting irritated by this point but laid there and let it dry. When she told me to walk to the bathroom to wash it off, I could barely get it off. When it finally came off my face, my face was tinted green!!! I looked like the Hulk, she laughed so hard she fell on the ground. It took a few days for the stain to go away and I was so glad it was summer because I stayed in my house. I never again and will never again get a face mask! Ha ha
