As an adult student, I am pursuing a career in the trades, particularly interested in electric. After high school I pursued a career in healthcare but I am now looking for something where I can learn and grow more. I am extremely handy and take a lot of pride in doing a great job creating and fixing things.

WinnerSupplyHouse values of generosity, respect, innovation, and teamwork stood out to me when reviewing this scholarship. In my personal life, I strive to treat others with respect and to help in anyway I can. No project is too big or small (just ask my wife!) and I am constantly helping my more elderly neighbors when they need it. I am very fortunate to have a loving family and want to ensure I give back to others when and where that I can. Often times, I am asked to be creative and innovative when solving problems for others, which I take pride in. For example, my neighbor has called on me many times to help with household projects which I enjoy doing. Sometimes I have to remind him he needs to take a break- my wife loves sharing the story of when I saw him out mowing the lawn and ran out to bring him water because I didn’t want him to overheat then made him sit down so I could finish for him (he is 71 and a good friend of mine).
I am looking to make a major career change from healthcare into the trades, specifically as a lineman or electrician. In this period of my life, I want to be able to become more of a master of my craft and learn and grow within my chosen career. In the last decade I have discovered that I enjoy working within teams (I was promoted to a team lead position in my last company) because I believe that training and helping others is a key to any one person is team success. By stepping up and showing others how they can solve problems or become better at their job, it also helps that individual to become a better teammate and person overall. I have the utmost respect for people current in the trades field today and would love to learn how I can be apart of a service tbh at so vital to our society today.
In considering the electrician and lineman fields, I can see my previous experience of being a good teammate absolutely pivotal. These can be pretty dangerous jobs and I think communication and willingness to help one another will be key. In my previous career, I would often stop what I was doing to help team members learn the proper process of sterile processing. In that role, patients health relies on us to get it right every single time. For example, if a surgical instrument was not cleaned and sterilized properly that could have an effect on someone’s life. There were many times I needed to stop someone’s work and help show them the right way to do it, all while being respectful and generous with my time and knowledge.
Finally, I would like to think I am the type of person to give someone the shirt off my back if it is needed. Where I grew up, there were a lot of people my age who unfortunately fell into drug use at an early age. I have always offered an open ear and place for anyone who needed it and still do.
