Heather Brown Sports Information Scholarship
My career goal in sports information is to work at the intersection of athletics, media, and communication—helping tell the stories behind the games. I am especially interested in becoming a sports information director or working in athletic communications, where I can manage statistics, create content, and connect fans with teams and athletes. Being involved in sports has shown me how powerful storytelling and accurate information can be in shaping how people understand and appreciate competition.
One of the biggest influences on this goal is my experience as a wrestler. Wrestling has taught me discipline, resilience, and attention to detail—qualities that translate directly into sports information work. Every match requires preparation, focus, and the ability to analyze both your own performance and your opponent’s. Similarly, working in sports information requires precision in statistics, quick thinking under pressure, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Wrestling has also shown me how much effort athletes put in behind the scenes, which motivates me to highlight those efforts through storytelling and media.
To succeed in sports information, I believe several key skills are essential. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are at the top of the list. Whether it’s writing game recaps, managing social media, or interacting with coaches and athletes, clear communication is critical. I also recognize the importance of organization and time management, especially when working around busy game schedules and deadlines. Technical skills, such as understanding statistics software, media platforms, and basic graphic design, are also increasingly important in today’s digital sports world.
I plan to build these skills by continuing to challenge myself both academically and through hands-on experiences. I will look for opportunities to write about sports, whether through school publications or independent projects, to improve my writing and storytelling ability. I also want to learn more about digital media tools and statistics programs so I can become comfortable working with the technology used in the field. Additionally, I will continue participating in sports like wrestling, which helps me stay connected to the athlete experience and strengthens my work ethic.
In terms of experiences that show my potential, my commitment to wrestling stands out. Balancing practices, competitions, and schoolwork has required dedication and perseverance. Wrestling has pushed me to overcome challenges, stay motivated, and continuously improve—qualities that will help me succeed in a demanding career like sports information. It has also given me a deeper appreciation for teamwork and leadership, even in an individual sport, because success often depends on the support of coaches and teammates.
Beyond my career goals, generosity and kindness are important parts of who I am. I try to show this in my everyday life by supporting my teammates, encouraging others, and being someone people can rely on. In wrestling, this means helping teammates improve, offering advice, and pushing each other to be better. Outside of sports, I look for ways to help others, whether it’s assisting classmates, being respectful and inclusive, or simply taking the time to listen when someone needs support.
I believe that success is not just about personal achievement but also about how you treat others along the way. By combining my passion for sports, my dedication to improving my skills, and my commitment to kindness and generosity, I hope to build a meaningful career in sports information and make a positive impact on the people around me.
John Vino Wrestling Scholarship
Before the age of 14 I had no idea what the sport of wrestling was except for WWE. All my life I played basketball. During the fall of freshman year I was going to try out for the basketball team. I remember the head coach of the wrestling team ask me what I'm doing this winter and I told him that I'm trying out for the basketball team, but he gave me information for the team anyways. basketball tryouts came and I didn't feel confident at all I knew I could of done way better and my head was just filled with doubt. I get the email that I didn't make the team. I was sad but I knew it wasn't the end of the world. The week after tryouts I asked the wrestling coach if I can still join he said yes. so came down after school for my first high school practice and ever since then I haven't looked back.
What I love about this sport is that it looks simple from the outside but in reality it is a very complex sport. what I also really love about this sport is how the team is just not a team it's like a family. I spend some many hours with these guys and they have all have been super close to me even my teammates who have already graduated I still have strong connections with them just from this sport. being a senior now and that my season is over I've realized how important this sport is to me, this sport has basically has became apart of my personality.
Now that my senior season is over it feels so odd coming home so early and not have to go to practice everyday. With wrestling I feel like I hold some value to society but now I feel like a regular old person, that's why I love this sport so much I feel so much better as a person. wrestling is one of or the hardest sport and being apart of a team which has accomplish so much and being able to contribute my hard work and turn it to success is so awarding for me. saying that this sport has had an impact on me is an understatement, this sport has strength my mental and psychical mindset for the better. this sport has so much impact on me that I wrote me college essay about it.
Doing this sport has brought me to so many different emotions but the only emotion that I haven't felt with this sport is regret. The only regret I have with this sport is not starting it when I was only in high school. I am truly blessed to be able to participate in this sport.

Ever since I was younger, I’ve been fascinated by the ocean. I remember going to the beach and wondering what kinds of creatures were living beneath the surface and how everything worked together. I remember watching cartoons or YouTube videos when I was younger thinking to my self how interesting these's animals are. Over time, that curiosity turned into a strong interest in marine biology. I realized that the ocean is not just beautiful, but also extremely important to life on Earth, and I want to be part of protecting it.
Marine biology interests me because it allows me to study ocean life while also helping solve real-world problems. Our oceans are facing serious issues like pollution, climate change, and damage to ecosystems like coral reefs. I want to learn more about these problems and be part of finding solutions. In the future, I hope to become a marine biologist and work on protecting marine animals and restoring damaged habitats. I am especially interested in helping endangered species and understanding how human actions affect ocean life.
To reach these goals, I plan to attend college and major in marine biology. I want to take classes that will teach me about marine ecosystems and give me opportunities to do hands-on research. I also hope to participate in internships or fieldwork so I can gain real experience working in this field. I know that becoming a marine biologist will take a lot of hard work, but I am ready to put in the effort because it is something I truly care about.
Receiving this scholarship would make a big difference for me. It would help reduce the financial stress of paying for college, allowing me to focus more on my studies and opportunities related to my major. It would also make it easier for me to take part in internships or research programs that may not be paid but are important for gaining experience. This support would help me stay on track toward achieving my goals.
This scholarship is also important to me because it would show that someone believes in my future and my passion for marine biology. That kind of support would motivate me to keep working hard and not give up on my goals. I want to make a positive impact on the environment, and this scholarship would help me take an important step toward doing that.
In the end, my goal is to help protect the ocean and the life within it. I want to use what I learn to make a difference and contribute to a better future. This scholarship would help me turn my passion into a career and allow me to continue pursuing something that means so much to me.
