When I was twelve, my bedroom floor was completely covered in a mix of aluminum parts, wires, and tools. I was building a robot for a regional competition, and with only forty-eight hours left, the steering sensor kept failing. Frustrated but determined, I treated the failure as a logical puzzle, broke down the code, and completely rebuilt the gear alignment by hand. Watching the machine navigate the course perfectly made me realize how much I love taking things apart and figuring out exactly how they function.
That problem-solving mindset and passion for tinkering is what draws me to the automotive technology industry today. I look at modern cars as massive, complex puzzles filled with intricate systems and advanced electronics. Whether it is diagnosing a tricky electrical issue or figuring out the complex mechanics under the hood, I absolutely love the challenge of taking a machine that isn't working right and using logic and critical thinking to get it running at peak performance again. My goal is to attend an accredited trade program to obtain my technical education and master automotive diagnostics.
Throughout my life, I have learned firsthand what it means to overcome both personal and medical challenges. I was born with a cleft lip, which required multiple surgeries and procedures throughout my childhood. Enduring those early medical hurdles taught me the values of resilience, patience, and perseverance. It shaped how I view difficult situations, teaching me that any obstacle can be managed with the right mindset and support.
More recently, our family faced a devastating medical challenge when my grandmother passed away from a blood cancer (hematology condition). Watching her fight that battle changed my perspective on life and deepened my appreciation for the fragility of time. It inspired me to pursue a trade where I can make a tangible difference every single day, working with my hands and my heart to build a stable future. I want to honor her memory, and the legacy of Scott A. Ross, by dedicating myself completely to an industry that offers so much promise and opportunity.
While I am highly motivated to begin this journey, funding my education is a significant hurdle. I come from a hardworking family; my father is an Army veteran who instilled in me the values of discipline, and my mother is a dedicated school teacher who taught me the importance of education. However, their ability to support my higher education financially is limited. Balancing a household on their incomes means saving for everyday living, leaving little margin for the rising costs of vocational school, necessary tools, and tuition.
Receiving this scholarship would be truly life-changing for me. It would bridge the financial gap, allowing me to pay for my technical education without burdening my parents with heavy debt. With this award, I can dedicate my full focus and energy to mastering my craft, completing the trade program, and launching a meaningful career as an auto technician.
