I love helping others and plan to become an emergency medical responder. My favorite animal is a walrus and I am a huge biomedical science and comic book nerd. I have always loved helping others and I have found my passion in medicine. As a student with a chronic illness I often have to work harder than others to get good grades but that's never stopped me from trying.

If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, it would be "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig. This novel is an evocative exploration of life, choices, and the pursuit of happiness, offering profound lessons that resonate universally.
"The Midnight Library" centers around Nora Seed, a woman overwhelmed by regrets and on the brink of giving up on life. She discovers a magical library between life and death, where each book represents a different version of her life based on the choices she could have made. Through these parallel lives, Nora gains a deeper understanding of her potential, the impact of her decisions, and the intrinsic value of her existence.
One of the central themes of the book is the idea of regret and the human tendency to dwell on missed opportunities. Many people struggle with the "what-ifs" in their lives, feeling burdened by the paths not taken. Haig's narrative powerfully illustrates that every life, no matter how imperfect, has its unique value and beauty. By following Nora's journey, readers are encouraged to appreciate their own lives more fully and recognize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Moreover, "The Midnight Library" emphasizes the importance of mental health and the power of second chances. In a world where mental health issues are increasingly prevalent, this book serves as a poignant reminder that it's never too late to seek help, make changes, and find new meaning. Nora's ultimate realization that she can create a fulfilling life, regardless of past mistakes, offers hope and inspiration to anyone feeling stuck or despondent.
Additionally, the book promotes empathy by showing how interconnected our lives are and how our actions affect others in ways we might not fully understand. This message is particularly relevant in today's globalized world, where fostering empathy and understanding is crucial for addressing collective challenges.
In summary, "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is a compelling choice for everyone to read because it addresses universal themes of regret, mental health, and the pursuit of happiness. Its insightful and hopeful narrative can inspire individuals to embrace their lives, make peace with their past, and find joy in the present.

July 4th, 2020, was a big moment that really changed my life. My heart stopped beating for a scary 1 minute and 29 seconds because of a rare condition called superior mesenteric artery syndrome. This illness is serious, with a 33% mortality rate. It wasn't like in the movies with bright lights or memories flashing. It felt more like a deep sleep, without any awareness. Life used to be something I didn't think much about, but after that day, it became more important and something I wanted to pursue.
In the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, I met a child life therapist who inspired me. She gave me hope, and now I want to be that hope for other kids facing tough times. Having a chronic illness is tough, not just because of physical pain but also because you miss the person you used to be. Every day, I wish I could go back to being the healthy kid I was before. Accepting that I'll be sick forever has been a journey through different emotions, but I've learned to manage it.
Understanding that life has challenges and pain made me shift my goal from wanting a cure to facing daily struggles with strength. I believe I can turn my suffering into something positive by helping others. Even though the road ahead, with college and maybe medical school, seems hard, my determination is strong. I love medicine and want to major in biomedical science with a minor in psychology. I know it won't be easy, but facing challenges only makes me more determined. I want to show kids like me that there's hope. Life, even with chronic illness, is worth fighting for, and happiness is possible.
In school, the Biomedical academy became a place where I found comfort and purpose. Learning about medicine excited me. I also joined a local EMS corp, trying to get my EMT 1 license to help with college expenses. The path ahead, especially with medical school, is tough. But my passion for medicine and the belief that my purpose goes beyond personal success keep me going. Dreaming of a future in biomedical science and psychology, I know it won't be easy. Medical school is demanding, but I'm determined to overcome challenges. It's not just a career choice; it's a calling, showing how tough times can make us stronger.
One thing I'm sure about is my purpose: helping kids going through tough times. My experiences prove that overcoming challenges is possible, turning them into strength and inspiring others. As I navigate through college, my involvement in the Biomedical academy and local EMS corp isn't just about gaining knowledge. It's a way to bridge what I learn in class with real-life practice. Getting my EMT 1 license isn't just about money; it's a commitment to gaining experience in medicine.
The journey ahead has uncertainties and challenges, but it's also a chance to grow, learn, and make a positive impact. The hardships I faced shaped me into not just a survivor but an advocate, ready to support others dealing with chronic illness. In my journey, I've learned that life is short, and everyone has inner strength. Every step and breath become proof of the human spirit's resilience, rising above challenges and coming out stronger. I'm not just a survivor; I'm proof that strength can grow in tough times, ready to inspire other kids just like me.
