Soon after I got my driver's permit when I was 16 years old, my mom and I found ourselves sitting at a CVS right across from the DMV. It was dark out, we just fond out mom's card was towed, and we were waiting for my brother to come and give us cash to get the car back. While we were waiting for my brother to come, my mom and I were talking about what major I would like to pursue when I go to college considering my brother was just about to attend college the following year. I told her that I've always been fascinated by how the human body works and the medical field, and she simply replied with "....you could be a nurse"; though it seams like a trivial moment, I was dead set on becoming a nurse since then. Ever since I've fallen in love with nursing and I am incredibly proud of how far I've come in my nursing school.
Coming into college I thought wanted to work in emergency medicine and/or trauma because I like to be on my feet and attentive. However, recently I completed a pediatric clinical rotation that changed my mind. As a nurse, there is nothing better than being able giving back and setting patients up for future success, and I believe there is no better field to accomplish this than pediatrics. As children are developing- mentally, emotionally, and physically- how healthcare workers give care to their pediatric patients is incredibly important and methodical. It is very impactful to be around developing minds and have the opportunity to give children atraumatic, safe, and fun experiences in the health care setting. Moreover, I love being around kids, as they can light up any room with their free spirits and brightness. I like to be an optimistic person and have fun, therefore I really believe I would thrive as a RN in the pediatric field.
